Breezy and busy on a sat. Nicer doing a trail up here early in the day. Don't expect to find much shade...

Don't be like us - check the weather beforehand so you don't end up hiking here when it's 100° outside

Enjoyed this. Great place to take the dog. They are allowed off the leash. Will definitely be coming back.

Great hike. Highest place I’ve gotten to in my backyard

Hot. Dusty and amazing in July Will try again on an early morning

Nice trail and puppy friendly. Only downfall was the difficulty in finding the entry to trail.

Great hike, would do it again

Great views of the bridge. Spotted some hawks. Easy walk.

Tried to do this loop on July 4 and the first section of the trail is currently closed due to “dangerous tree conditions” - hiked the half that was still open and it was nice.

By far my favorite trail this year. I took the Hetherington Loop both ways to get off the fire road a bit. No real waterfalls left, but the creek was still moving a little bit. I stood beside it and it reminded me of the Calm app. Even with the shade, it heats up quickly, so take lots of water and start early. I finished at 11 AM and was sweating pretty good.

I did the loop clockwise as others suggested. Wonderful views as you start ascent. Love getting off the fire road and onto single track. I saw a doe with her two youngsters, turkeys, and lots of lizards. There were some loud talkers and bicyclists early on, but once you get off the main trails, it quiets down a lot.

It’s a challenge on a hot day.

Nice and safe trail. Well marked and beautiful. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a gorgous day.

Had a fun time, 11yr old was able to do it just make sure you have water. Nice views.

My family and I liked this trail felt safe and peaceful. Will come back to reach the top, we arrived a bit late.

Really beautiful hike. I took the the Hetherton Loop up and back to avoid the Donner Creek fire road.
6.1 miles out and back.
1200 elevation gain. Moderate with some tough rocky steep areas.
Best I feel in spring or after a rain and not too muddy.
Will definitely do again.

Great breezy hike with nice views. I'll definitely do it again soon.

I love it! Lots of shade and the trails are beautiful.

NO 4 x 4, no off-road allowed, no motor vehicles.

Mostly very wide, exposed trails. Views are mostly nice... mostly of the valley, but some look out over the hills. Round Top Loop is mostly shaded and good for a short hike.

Great trail to take the kids on! Fairly easy to follow and has some benches along the way if you need a rest.

Good length and degree of difficulty. Nice variation in terrain.

Busy trail with lots of people, bikes, kids, and dogs. A couple that was ahead of me allowed their large dogs to poop on the trail and didn't pick it up. Lots of dog poop on the trail. Yes, it may be in a cow pasture with all the other cow patties, but it's unsanitary to leave dog poop. One family was walking a pit bull off leash.

The trail itself is nice, but I suspect the lot of people are here because there is no charge to use the park. If you want solitude, this is not the place to come.

Beautiful hike! Much of it was shaded, and the terrain wasn’t too difficult.

This area isn't bad, but it's also not great. I think if you live in this area, this is a nice place to go when you want to get out and don't have a lot of time. I'm a bit further out, so I doubt I'll be back. The trails are okay, pretty moderately trafficked. You'll see hikers, bikers, and a good number of dogs (that are of leash). The views at the top along Volcanic Trail are also okay - they're a nice little bonus if you're just out here for the activity, but I wouldn't count them as a draw to come here.

Biggest issue: very limited parking.

Beautiful hike. Made it to the trail head (or dead end of a residential road) pretty late morning, but it was still cool enough out that we weren't boiling throughout the hike. Starts out quite mellow, would recommend doing clockwise/going left when you approach the split for the loop, contrary to how the app directs you. Despite the steep bits, little kids were still doing this trail so it's not terribly strenuous. Great views, overall would do it again!

Completed today to accomplish a early morning hike. Truly rewarding morning experience... very pleasant and filled with greenery... Moderately difficult- doable with kids. There is section which needs more effort to climb otherwise a beautiful hike. You will walk alongside of a creek most of the time and the sound from the stream will give you a soothing effect

It was a really peaceful and enjoyable walk. The path is nice and wide and the scenery is beautiful. Getting to the actual path was confusing at first but some locals were kind and pointed us in the right direction. The only reason we gave it 3 stars and not more is because my girls didn’t think it was an adventurous hike, more of a walking path. But it does get you outside and a day outside is not a day wasted!

This hike is a mini version of the Mt. Diablo waterfall hike. It will save you about an hour of hiking and also eliminate the “Second” elevation climb if you are getting tired and don’t wish to complete the waterfall hike. See my review on Mt. Diablo waterfall hike for more details
