Tahoe, Winter - to do Map

We started late not really planning on a hike but could not resist and the weather was great. We took our border collie who loved it. The high point of the hike was seeing a bald eagle! We will be back to complete the loop.

Great hike but more like 5.7 miles from parking area. Even longer if you decide to take the detour out and back to Donner Peak from main trail up to Mt. Judah. Beautiful views.

Great easy hike out to Point Mariah and back. Only negative thing was all the gun fire we could hear in the distance. Sounded like target practice but no ranges nearby so not sure what was going on. Definitely heard machine gun fire too so not the quiet peaceful hike we had hoped for.

Great weather for October 29th. The hike is easy on Royal Gorge trails mostly. The view at point Mariah is amazing.

*quite a lot of this trail is on gravel road.
*lots of mountain bikes on trail.
*road noise for a long time on the walk.
*water for the dogs.
*would be nice shade in the hot months.
*lake was nice- people catching fish.

I would suggest hiking to the top. As we did this and we got lost, A LOT.

We ended up taking the gondola up and did a variation of this where we went to the top of one of the peaks (HIGHLY suggest!!!). but it was gorgeous, and we went in July and there was still snow out that our dog loved. So it was a fun hike, just be prepared for a very overgrown trail. Also would suggest going up and taking the gondola down. Personal opinion though.

Nice views. Get to walk on some of the ski runs and good views of Sugar Bowl ski area.

We are new to hiking and in our 50’s-60, so this is for newbies like us. Loved the views and weather was perfect in October. We actually walked the path counter-clockwise, not knowing how this app really works, and just realized, late, that the path direction is on the app. Heading down the peek of Mt. Judah Trail back to Pacific Crest was slippery and steep, the trail was hard to recognize. Now that I see we should have ascended that way, it makes some sense. We’re learning and love adventure.

Awesome place to mountain bike! My 11yr old loves it. Start at Hoelter hall trail head to add some exciting downhill thru the trees, then one you cross the gate the trail seems like equal parts up and down thru out. Excellent beginner trail for sure with beautiful views at the end. On way back you can get on dirt road to skip going uphill thru the trees if you want.

The first 2 miles could be challenging for people who have knees problems because the trail was steep and could be slippery. We hike relatively slow with our dogs and it took us about 3.5 hours round trip.

Great hike!

Very crowded and when I hike I like to get away from people. I’ve lived in Truckee since ‘91 and have never done this trail as I had heard it was too busy. Rocky parts and uphill but not a difficult hike. Beautiful views! 2 hours and 12 minutes to do entire loop.

Mostly in the trees, striking view of the lake from the top. You can continue on to Martin peak if you want.

*There are some lengthy steep and rocky parts of the trail
*Great workout
*No water sources so bring plenty of water for dogs
*A lot of exposed/unshaded areas of the trail
*Took about 3.5 hours to complete the entire loop with several breaks
*Well signed trail; hard to get lost
*Nice views (lake, summit, trees, etc.)

I was in the Tahoe City area for a couple days and decided to go for a hike. This trail was a great challenge and with beautiful views. The information from prior reviews was helpful in making my way through the granite section. The marks on the rocks were helpful in making my way.

Great! Especially hitting it just right for wildflowers! Views are magnificent. Good workout.

A really nice hike. Note that at the initial trailhead from the gate you take the right “road/trail”. The road to the left leads somewhere else. Not too many people. Quite a few dogs, if that matters to you. There is a LOT of fire road to walk on. If you’re there on the weekend you will likely encounter several trucks. But, it’s beautiful and a breath of fresh air, literally.

Beautiful! Amazing views. Great hike with older kids.

A beautiful October hike, with saturated colors, cool temperatures, and no other hikers. Although a relatively short hike, the climb provides good exercise if done at a brisk pace.

Beautiful! Good workout. Fall colors beginning and great views.

beautiful views and amazing trail.

Pleasant beautiful loop, definitely go out to Donner point.

Amazing views!

The view at the end is everything.

Short hike with a rewarding finish, beautiful canyon views. Hiked it in late summer so it was a bit dusty, but there's enough tree cover that you don't get too baked. During the spring I'm guessing this is aflame with wildflowers!

Loved it. Beautiful views. It’s a good work out for those that want to push it. Or you could take it easy and enjoy the scenery.

Took my daughter and I and we completed it in two hours. We ran the whole way back..

There were only a few other hikers in the area.
