snowshoeing

Super short but with some good ups.. especially in the snow. It seems fairly popular on the weekends but not obnoxious. The lake is frozen - people were walking all the way out to the island with no issue today.

Completed on 1/11/18. This hike was definetly a low-effort, high-reward kind of trek. There were a ton of incredible views, from Lake Tahoe to mountain peaks to frozen Eagle Lake. A little sketchy in a couple of spots, but definitely doable with some snowshoes and poles. Highly suggested! Didn't see anyone on the way up and only a few hikers on the way down.

Great for snowshoeing! We got lucky and were able to follow the tracks of someone who knew where’s they were going. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have found our way. There are not a lot of trail markers and after fresh snow, no sign of a path. Stunning views!

Love this trail year round but especially when I can swim at the bottom!

I just hiked this one today (12/29/18) and really enjoyed it. Beautiful views. The lake was frozen over so plenty of hikers walked out onto it. Very cool. Some parts of the trail were really icy and can be tough to hike on. I saw plenty of people slip and a few younger kids and older adults had difficulty with icy steps.

Great scenery!

Went snowshoeing to see the sunset, very windy once we got to the lake look out. Got some good pics of the red sky and lake. Got dark fast used headlamps on the hike out.

An easy hike with amazing view.

Amazing view of the frozen lake!! Our first Christmas Eve hike

Fantastic hike during the winter months. A little bit of everything. Great views, rock climb, and then a winter trail through the woods. Not to hard for the average Joe

it was a great snowy winterland. it was a wonderful trek and not to long. it is also pretty well marked except after the waterfall. then it got tricky so I decided not to continue and headed back down.

This was a great hike! We went in late November, so there was ABSOLUTELY no one on the trail. It’s mostly downhill on the way down, so it’s quite the climb coming up, but totally worth it! The beach and the house at the bottom was beautiful and a great place to rest. Highly recommend!

Hiking only for the season. The road is gated closed with no way around. There is snow there now as well. I'll be up there is spring.

Amazing hike!

Great Trail. Fantastic views and fairly well marked, which was surprising given we couldn't seem to find the exact trail when we went up to Castle Rock. We followed the "beaten" path thru the snow, which wasn't what ALLTrails showed. Still loved it. Look forward to doing it again in Spring Thaw weather.

Gate was Locked this morning when I went to drive it. Plenty of people sledding down by the entrance in the small amount of snow.

Loved it. Great views. A good amount of uphill climbing on the way up to Eagle Lake but well worth it!

Amazing views all around, watch your step, & keep your kids away from the mountain edge, lots of slippery loose rocks. Parking is sheer luck if you get one. So much beauty here, enjoy!

This was my favorite hike of the trip. Not particularly busy (though it was a Monday) and it was so peaceful. It was pretty easy too. The trailhead is in a weird place and there isn't a whole lot of signage, but the trail is really big and easy to follow. My favorite part was the little trails everywhere that shot you out into different parts of the main trail!

Great trail for families. Kids loved climbing the rocks. Beautiful views.

5 stars for beautiful family trail but had to only give 3 because waaaay too crowded

Great out and back trail. Parking is in a small lot and also a turnout beside a gate on the main road. Both places join the main trail.
Good quality path all the way down to the sandy beaches. Great for dogs. Stunning views.
Return walk is all uphill but not difficult.

Scenic hike with a small waterfall along the way and some very scenic views of the lake. Beautiful colors on the lake as it gets later in the evening.

Excellent fall hike! We came in mid-October and even though locals on the trail were sighing that it was the tail end of colors, we thought we were inside a treasure trove!

Pro tip: You can make this trail a loop by taking hiking trail to the lake and biking trail back (or vice versa)
Pro tip 2: The colors are more beautiful along the biking trail

Awesome hike with 3 kids - 9, 6, and 3. The 2.7 miles was just a loud perfect. They only broke down around 2.5 miles.

Great trail down to the sand beaches with crystal water. Very easy and has a perfect length. Our dog also enjoyed it a lot off leash.

This trail was a short drive from South Lake. While parking is limited, you can park at the base of the trail. The trail was easy enough for my four year old to finish and short enough that snacks weren’t required.
The view was breathtaking.

Beautiful and scenic hike
