This was a great hike! We went in late November, so there was ABSOLUTELY no one on the trail. It’s mostly downhill on the way down, so it’s quite the climb coming up, but totally worth it! The beach and the house at the bottom was beautiful and a great place to rest. Highly recommend!

This was my favorite hike of the trip. Not particularly busy (though it was a Monday) and it was so peaceful. It was pretty easy too. The trailhead is in a weird place and there isn't a whole lot of signage, but the trail is really big and easy to follow. My favorite part was the little trails everywhere that shot you out into different parts of the main trail!

Great out and back trail. Parking is in a small lot and also a turnout beside a gate on the main road. Both places join the main trail.
Good quality path all the way down to the sandy beaches. Great for dogs. Stunning views.
Return walk is all uphill but not difficult.

The ideal introduction to hiking trails in Tahoe. Spectacular views begin almost immediately. Granite Lake, about half way up, is charmingly picturesque, and there are more stunning views nearing the saddle. You can stop and go back at any point and have a pleasant hike. You can do it in 3 hours but why not take longer and enjoy it.

This is a pretty easy hike--neither long nor strenuous, and it's beautifully built and maintained. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the top.

Great trail down to the sand beaches with crystal water. Very easy and has a perfect length. Our dog also enjoyed it a lot off leash.

Great hike, lots of elevation gain. It took us and a dog about 3 hours there and back. Be aware that out and back is almost 6 miles to top of the peak. The view was incredible and worth it!

Great for families, just enough of a grade to make it a little bit of a workout, with a great reward at the top.

Hard at times due to continued climbing up, but it’s worth every step because of the amazing views at the very top.

This hike is amazing! Highly recommend! Dog friendly. Lake along the way for pups to swim and cool off.

I think we might have done a different trail when we got to the trailhead lol. We followed the trail that leads east. Nonetheless, it was BEAUTIFUL and there was no one else there on a Tuesday at about noon! Perfect hike weather for us in November.

Beautiful hike and views. Did an amazing sunrise hike and the whole way up to the peak we got beautiful views of the sun coming over the mountains with the lake in front. Little steep at times but definitely a consistent incline. Top has a well worth it view.

Relatively easy hike for a group of four. None of us were in the best shape of our lives but the stop at Picnic Rock was well worth the journey.

Hiked to Grass Lake. Quiet trail - only saw a few other hikers on the path. Extremely rocky which can slow the pace. Definitely recommend keep the map with you because the trail can be a little hard to follow at times. Grass Lake was peaceful - light breeze but relaxing.

Easy trail. The water is crystal clear, and the scenery is beautiful.

Beautiful and easy quick walk. However, the signage is pretty atrocious and actually doesn’t make sense. I was unable to find a purple path! Just bronze and silver. Worth some quick fall beauty though :)

Great trail. Rocky and flat in the beginning. Beautiful views at Grass Lake. Quick easy hike that one can finish within a few hours.

Great hike. Good for kids and beautiful views at the end!

Absolutely wonderful hike. Great fall colors and views of Donner Lake.

Very serene walk through the forest in very well defined trail. Some beatiful views of the lake.

I don’t know if I’d rate this a ‘3’ in terms of difficulty. It is much easier than other 3’s as rated by this app. It feels more like a 1.5 or 2.

It’s a very beautiful hike with lots of lake views. We stopped by at Granite Lake for lunch and since it was end of fall, it wasn’t very crowded. The trail is well maintained. The views at various vistas are spectacular. I’d rate it between moderate and difficult.

I drove about 2 miles up, I was short for time and wanted to hike a little. I hiked the road from then around summit lake about 1.8 miles.

Very serene hike in the forest . Moderate elevation in the beginning and then it's an easy hike. We went in mid October late morning and only saw 2 people the entire time.

Dusty but easy family and dog friendly trail with nice viewpoint of Lake Tahoe at top and on descent.

Not too difficult. Took 2 hours even though we stopped for some photos. The toilets in the parking area are extremely dodgy... Bring your own toilet paper!

10-15-18 Parking lot is closed, but it is only 1/4 mile to the trailhead. Cascade Falls is to the left and this trail (to the right) appeared to be labeled Desolation Wilderness. The notice posted at the trailhead stated that from 8-29-18 until 12-31-20 the Desolation Wilderness is closed unless you have a permit (see photo). THERE ARE NO PERMITS IN THE BOX. Cascade Falls was awesome!

I have mixed feelings about this hike.
The trailhead is somewhat easy to access (located at the very back of bay view campground). Limited parking especially on busy weekends.
You get incredible views of Emerald Bay from several view points on your way up.
There are lots of switchbacks on your way up. LOTS of elevation gain!
Granite Lake is lovely and a very nice place to take a breather.
There are two peaks:
The northern peak has better views of emerald bay. I did not see a clear trail to this peak.
The southern peak is about 200ft higher in elevation, has better views of desolation wilderness. The trail to this peak is very clear.
Dog friendly!

It was a pretty easy trail to take and the views at the bottom on the lake are amazing. I went on a Friday and I only came across 5 people the whole time

A little steep at some points, but views at the end make it worth it
