HikingGreat!

My first 14er! Absolutely breathtaking views! (completed 9/16) I drove a midsized sedan (AWD) to the trailhead - a huge gamble. All other cars were trucks, Jeeps and ATVs. I would highly recommend renting an ATV if you don’t have a AWD/4WD, just for the peace of mind. The road was very rough, especially the last section leading up to the trail. I arrived around noon, set up my tent, and started the hike at 2pm. Returned around 6pm. Weather was super nice.

HikingGreat!

A really delightful hike! It took us about 6 hours but the time flew by with tons of variation in scenery and a nice mix of up and down in both directions. If you only have time for one hike in the area, there are others that offer more majestic views, but this one is solid and really lovely for an easier but still gorgeous day hike.

HikingGreat!RockyScramble

Hiked to the summit today, not an easy one so wouldn’t want it to be your first 14’er. It’s quite steep over loose rocks going up and lots of scree. There is a notch to climb through to get to the summit that looks intimidating but can be climbed on either side with some confidence. The road up was rough, I made it half way (1 mile up the 4wd road) in a Suzuki Grand Vitara but had to stop as the road got way too rough. If you need to park at the start of the first 4wd sign it adds about an extra 2 miles each way. I started the hike at 8am and returned to the car at 1:30pm. No camping close to trailhead so I carcamped where the paid campsites were. Great view, good luck with no wind, no clouds, and only 15 others on the entire hike.

Off Road DrivingNo shade

Beautiful Hike and worth the incline to get to the top! Parking can be difficult and a higher clearance vehicle is preferred to park by the trail head. If you park down on the main road you will add about 2 miles round trip. I followed Google Maps - and there is no signage so it can be concussing. Make sure you have enough water for you and your dog if they are joining! Shade for the first couple miles and then you are in the wide open.

Nice hike. Colorado’s normally beautiful blue skies are very hazy today due to the wildfires to the west.

Couple of icy patches and rocky areas but amazing views at the top. If anyone finds a green rope dog leash, congratulations it’s yours now! We seemed to have dropped it at some point

We did the SW ridge over Labor Day weekend. This has become my new favorite 14er for the views at the top.

Incredible hike. Absolutely stunning. Got to the trailhead about 7 and there was still plenty of parking. Hiked up to all 3 lakes; incredibly gorgeous hike! Some parts of the trail were a bit muddy and one small section still had some snow, but the rest was clear.

Off Road DrivingGreat!Off trailRocky

Rented a Razr and went to top of Yankee Boy Basin to Mt. Sneffels trailhead. We hiked a short distance as we were at nearly 13,000 feet and had not fully acclimated to the altitude. Spectacular views on a gorgeous day.

Beautiful trail. Did Loop clockwise, good to start early. Went all the way to last lake “Fuller Lake” and had relaxing lunch, only a few people there. Some of trail is loose gravel and steep both sides. Trekking poles are really helpful. Great workout and incredible scenery! Love it all!

Gorgeous hike! We hit the trail at 7ish,took about 6 hours hiking for the loop, and it is so worth it for the loop! All the lakes are lovely and the trail is well maintained. Fall colors are starting to show!

Incredible trail. Hiked it right after a surprise September snow storm - mostly green on bottom but plenty of snow on top.

Bring spikes for your hiking boots. There are parts of the trail that are very icy and slippery. I had on Moab hiking boots and unable to get down safely due to ice.

It is beautiful and worth the 8+ miles. If you are using all trails to give directions to the trailhead, it will stop at the entrance of Ophir pass but the actual trailhead starts almost one mile later. This can be accessed if you have high clearance vehicle. Parking might be a problem if you arrive late(after 8:30 am) then you will need to park little further from trailhead. Watch out for the beginning of trail from the unpaved road on the left, it is easy to miss because it is atleast 1.5 feet higher than the unpaved road. Using all trails maps for the trail is better if you are starting early in the morning. Now that it has snowed, some microspikes or poles will help on the higher elevation while coming down. Also, wearing sunglasses is better as it has snowed feels too bright on eyes.

Hiking

This trail is no joke. Although it is not the longest, the elevation makes it extremely tough. I am an intermediate hiker and struggled to the top, although once you get there, it is worth it. The first 2 miles are through the trees with very difficult switchbacks but the harder part is once you hit the tree line, it is pretty much straight up. There were lots of stops and took about 5 hours total. It was gorgeous and worth it!! We went in not realizing the difficulty but very happy we pushed through.

Snow packed above tree line, melting quickly today in the sun! Water is a beautiful blue, as the light changes mid to late morning the color is best at the lake.
