We started from the wrong hobbit hole! Look for the cairn it’s to the right before the buildings, we went up past the tower and trekked around until we found the true trail. Our day was dry and the views were indeed spectacular. Some steep parts and some boulders to maneuver. I’m not sure if I could have fit my trekking poles through some of the brush, there were plenty of trees to use as support so even tho this was pretty challenging for me (knee & shoulder issues) I took my time and didn’t feel too uncomfortable. I’m very proud of my accomplishment.
Great reward for minimal effort. Can get pretty muddy and has short section of straight up. Recommend to anyone traveling through
Wow, the views are worth the mud and steepness. It is very muddy right now, bring trekking poles if you have them. They are super helpful both ways. Make sure to bring another set of clothing because you might get muddy!

Amazing views of the Matanuska Galcier. Some would say it’s the best view in Alaska. We got lost on the way down as the trail is tricky to follow. Radio tower makes for an easy sense of direction. Overall a great hike. Will definitely do it again!
Steep and muddy but fun!
Hike was short but a killer one due to mud and lots of slipping on way down. Also has lots of different trails so it’s so easy to get off trail, made hike longer. View on the other hand was amazing and pictures don’t come close to in person.
Hard let thank I thought.
Pretty steep on the first half but the second half was easier for sure. An easy rocky park and boom you’re there. The 360 views are 100% worth it.
Amazing view at the top! I would put this at the upper end of moderate, especially for kids. There were a few places that were more of a scramble. And there are a few places where you could be in a bit of trouble if you slipped / slid off the trail due to loose gravel and dirt. I would estimate most of the elevation gain is done in 1/2 mile if that gives you an idea of how steep some parts are. That being said, totally worth it, my 5 year old was able to do it with me. Total time 4 hrs including 45min or so enjoying the view at the top.
Great experience. Worth the price. I would not do the guided tour, it seemed that the guided tour went the same places as the unguided trail. No crampons needed during the summer.
