Tough trail for beginners. Definately a good workout. This is also a very popular trail.

I did this hike yesterday (11/11) and the trail was snow covered. It was very pretty with all the snow. We didn’t do the entire trail but enjoyed the portion we did do. I did it fine with nice snow boots but it was a little slippery at times. My friend had crampons on her shoes and they seemed to work well. Snow shoes would have been overkill

WHAT A WORKOUT!!! Per the placard: 2768 steps, 2K elevation gain and .88 miles.

I am definitely out of shape and completed this in 53 minutes including a plethora of of water and quick bite breaks; after the 1800 mark I did a break every 200 steps until the 2500 mark.

There was some snow and a bit of ice on the left hand side of the stair (while going up) but nothing that made for trouble with just my vans outdoor shoes.

Beautiful trail with some nice views near the top. The Flatirons are really cool-looking peaks! The trail is really well maintained and manageable to walk on, even during the steeper points. Lots of switchbacks toward the top made the ascent easier than I anticipated. Only one very brief scrambly section.

We stopped at the very top of the second Flatiron (the trail seemed to peter out a few meters behind it) and came down via Bluebaird Trail. Passed lots of other people in the morning, but no congestion.

I hiked this on 11/2/18 starting out at 10:30 and made it to the top in about one hour. I am an avid hiker and have hiked several 14ers here in CO. This hike was definitely an ass kicker even for someone that works out almost daily! Take plenty of water and be prepared for snow and ice this time of year. It’s really slippery and muddy heading down!

Short and steep, a good workout, with some good views. Not so crowded, but it was a weekday in early November.

Awesome hike. Not overwhelming hard but tough for moderately in-shape folks. Mostly climbing steps. Gorgeous view at the top.

Excellent trail that is to be experienced in the fall. We were a couple weeks late to do this. However, the snow in the path made it a bit difficult to traverse. Took us 3 hours from car to car including the breaks and photography. Would highly recommend this trail during the fall season.

Trail was not super tough. I would highly recommend using spikes. I did not and was fine. Just watch where you’re stepping. Though my wife did use spikes and said she felt much more comfortable coming back down. There was an incident with a dislocated hip. Not sure if it was from a fall or whatnot, but it is better to be safe than sorry. As you get further up trail you run between dry land/rocks and icy areas. The end is def worth the hike up. Just be careful!!!

Took me 3 hours 48 min. I ran ~4 miles and hiked the rest. Good views at beginning and end. Middle chunk gets a little bland.

Awesome hike. Leg burner for sure!

There is very minimal snow on the sides of the trail and some of the standing water is starting to ice over, but no issues for walking through the trails. This hike met my craving for getting out and about, but the trails are definitely on the east side. It’s more like a walk that a hike that gets your heart pumping. Similar to other reviews, it is easy to take another unintended path and end up back at your car sooner than expected. I did enjoy the views of the mountains and overlooking evergreen high school. Overall the hike was enjoyable, but I probably wouldn’t do it again.

Beautiful trail. well maintained and not much traffic on the trail today because of the cold may be. But the parking lot is full as there are lot of trails starting at the same place. I have parked on a close by street. It snowed a bit while I was there and it was beautiful

not your average trail. stairway to heaven. seemed longer than 3 miles. arch was stunning, view of boulder and denver as well. very crowded. leg burner. loved it. bring toilet paper, i found free parking away from main lot.

Initially intended to do the entire loop but accidentally cut across halfway thru and didn’t want to back track (again). Beautiful scenery, and it’s best to get there early. Heavier traffic begins around 9am. Overall, highly recommend!

This hike will probably take longer than you think. It is quite steep. Views at the beginning are expansive, the middle section is a tough climb in the trees with few views, and the end section once you gain the ridge has views back towards Boulder and also east to the Indian Peaks. From the Bear Peak summit you can probably pick out your house if you live in Boulder, the view is that unobstructed.

This trail was fantastic but we went the day after it snowed and as the steps narrowed and got higher in between each step, the ice was thicker. It was still amazing but would absolutely think twice about hiking when icy.

We went off season which was October 26th. At this time there is no having to use the shuttle to get up. You need to pay at the entry of the park which is $10 per car. We went about 930a and now issues finding parking. When we got done with the hike around 1p the parking lot was pretty full. We wanted to do an easy hike as my friend just flew in the day before from Minnesota. We were planning to do the easy trail called Maroon Bells scenic trail. This was closed so other only option from that trail was Crater Lake. This was a little more challenging then we were expecting. But it was a great. Lots of rocks and boulders to climb over. There was some areas with snow and ice but not too bad. But all worth as once we got the lake it was huge (though the water was low). Enough room to go by ourselves to have a snack without being next to anyone. Would come back to do this in another season to see all the aspens.

My favorite trail in Boulder. I do it several times a year in all different seasons. Traction is definitely a good idea in winter. Can be crowded. It is steep. But I still love it. On clear days, one can see out the expansive eastern plains, and the city of Denver in the distance appears very small and isolated.

It is a great hike. Can't wait to do it again on the next trip out.

Very hard on the way up. Not sure if I’d suggest running down the trail. It’s fairly steep at some points.

Pretty awesome hike close to home.

This was a beautiful and scenic hike. It was EASY and great to bring kids for a “hike”, more of a walk for adults. This trail reminds me a lot of “Garden of the Gods”. Lots and lots of beautiful rock formations. There were many easy trails to venture out and do as well.

Stop to read the day’s updates on the trailhead signs to remain in the know and choose your route. I recommend taking a picture of the map.

Dogs must remain leashed unless they have a very specific boulder tag and have gone through a training program, otherwise you will get a ranger ticket and ruin it for others. Please respect this rule to preserve wildlife and rare ground nesting birds that we are lucky enough to have in our area. Rattlesnakes and bears/cats do occur but you can read about their more prevalent time of year and how to avoid.

Before you come with your dog ensure you have at least 4 plastic grocery bags with you or poop bags. After picking your dogs poop up, squeeze the air out before tying it up. Then place it within another bag to prevent too much odor. Plan on carrying your poop ALL the way to the trash in your hiking pack. When people leave bags leave lining and dotting the sides of the trail, it disrupts natural scents for local wildlife and disrupts their environment. If your dog poops early on as most do, just walk it back to the trash can at the trailhead and get your extra steps in. Keep your extra bags in can you need them later on the hike.

The path up to the 2nd flatiron is beautiful. The initial 1+ mile is mostly groomed path at an incline. When you venture further, you begin to notice many switchbacks as you start to elevate. There are a few areas that definitely involve scramble and use of your hands for balance if you intend to summit. Bring a snack to enjoy up top, and pack all the trash out with you.

In late October, we did not feel that 2 Liters water was enough per person. Next time I will bring 3 liters for each person. Just be on the safe side and enjoy training with a little extra weight. There is a nice frost-resistant water fountain at the trailhead along with primitive bathrooms if the ranger house is closed when you go.
