I hiked up this morning. Be forewarned - they have drained the lake. It is currently a much smaller, much less attractive lake. I'd skip hiking here until it is refilled. And I don't know when that will be.

Tough hike. I took my 10 year old daughter on her first overnight backpacking trip. This was definitely a tough hike. Great fishing.

beautiful hike all the way through and the prize at the end the waterfall perfect.

I agree with Chris, this is more of a moderate trail. By the end my friend and I were very sore. The pain was well worth seeing the falls. Take lots of water!

great hike with great views!! made for a nice escape from the smokey valley too. there is one spot that was a bit sketchy, but our dog did it no problem. you basically climb up some trees roots hanging over the trail. the falls were so cold, so I don't recommend standing under them. ;) and the flowers were beautiful too!!! I'd definitely do this one again.

Great and rewarding hike. The trail was much better once you turn left off into the wooded area around 1.5 miles I believe. Beautiful meadows with butterflies cross crossing the trail all along the way. Excellent work out and views at the top. Very shaded in the morning especially in the forested area.

fun destination hike with a great payoff. falls were amazing. most of the trail is fairly ez, but there are a couple of steep sections.
took the whole family, my 9 year old struggled just a bit.
took 2 hours.
GPS had it at 4.3 miles.

Great trail. It's well covered and stays pretty cool. The slightly steeper parts are well staggered, good exercise but not too difficult. Very beautiful location.

Amazing trail. Morning is definitely the time to go. It’s gradual at the beginning and gets very steep at the top. There were only a few good flat sites at the top for a tent, though.

We followed the AllTrails directions and ended up 1.8 miles from the trail head. We started walking and realized there was a road below the trail we were on - so circled back to the car and followed the map and ended ip at the right trailhead. The hike is hard because it is so steep. Views are beautiful and the lake is Amazing. not a hike for beginners, this one kicked our butts. But now one of our favorites! .

Great hike. Once you get into the woods its much prettier and has an exciting cliff side view at the end. If you go at the right time the wildflower meadows might be blooming and that's a nice bonus.

trail running

This is my favorite hike of the season. I’ve done Cecret Lake, Big Baldy, Silver Lake and Battle Creek Falls. I’d give it a 5* if it wasn’t for the amateurs hiking on the trail. If you see a trail runner, move over and let them pass. Falls were refreshing and great to cool off under before I headed back down.

Gorgeous area. I’ve done it in the summer and winter.

Beautiful hike! Everything was green and lush on the trail. Lots of people coming down from seeing the sunrise on Timp but the trail wasn't too crowded. When we got to the falls there was only one other small group there so we got some peace and quiet and cooled off next to the water. Our little dog loved it too! Good hike for families and people of all ages!

Beautiful views and great hike.

Here’s a hike that definitely earned its rating. Absolutely beautiful, though, and very rewarding. The majority of the trail is well shaded, so any time of day is good to tackle this hike.

Shady, nice trail.

We loved this trail! I went with my brother and 6 month baby in a carrier. We tried it once in the heat of the day and couldn’t make it with my daughter but tried again in the morning and it was perfect for all of us. Make sure you to take the right at the first fork. There is a part where you have to climb up some tree roots but it was not too bad. There were several elderly people who were hiking it just fine. In total it was about 2-2.5 hours round trip. (With lots of time enjoying the falls.)

Great hike. A little steep at places.

brought 4 liters of water each and only drank 2 liters each, but I was grateful to have plenty. it is very hot, and there is no shade at the summit, hence "big baldy". the view was beautiful from the top, and the hike was worth it starting from battle creek.

This trail is a hoot and a half. Jacobs ladder will be sure to destroy your thighs and calf’s. Wonderful view at the top though.

This trail is marked “easy” but it is not!! It is definitely “moderate” and if you are an inexperienced hiker, possibly even “difficult “. There are rocks and tree roots to navigate especially along the last section leading to the falls. And it is a challenge for small children. Most kids under 7 that I saw on the trail were not happy. One 3 year old was afraid of how high up we were along part of the trail and cried for a good part of it

Now all that being said, it is a beautiful hike!! Lots of shade, wildflowers (even in dry July), scenic views across the mountains and the waterfall did not disappoint!! Just be prepared with water and snacks, especially if you have kids with you.

I completely agree that this hike should not be categorized as ‘easy’. However, it was well worth the hike. Beautiful falls.

Absolutely gorgeous. Should not be rated easy but it depends on which parts you hike.

Great hike, took me a little over three hours to get up there but once you are at the lake it is unbelievable. Nice scenery and wildlife on the trails as well as around the lake, they started draining the lake today so if you are going go right now or by the end of the week.

Don't trust GPS especially if coming from Provo. The GPS puts you 4 miles away from the trailhead. I was able to find a housing development being built that put me 1.3 miles away from the trailhead.
You will want to drive to Orson park in Draper, and there will be a dirt road that takes you all the way to the trailhead but be warned cars will not like that road. I would say a crossover vehicle is pushing it.

Bring lots of water! It is dry now so you can't filter any water this time of year. I went through 2 power aids and 3 liters of water and still felt pretty dehydrated the last 3 miles down.

Plan on going in the morning. I got out late (11 am) and was in the sun the whole time. There isn't much shade from trees so the sun is on you the whole time.

I would not recommend this for the first time to beginner-moderate hikers. It is a brutally hard hike that I would recommend working up towards. It is probably the most gorgeous hike of all the peaks in my opinion though.

Beautiful scenery.

Good long hike! I got cell coverage the whole way so it was really helpful in staying on the route, plus in a lot of areas there are a ton of Carins (unlike pfieferhorn). Hiked in late July and saw about 30 other people. So it is nice that the trail is not packed (like Timp). We started at 5:45 am, took 5 hours to summit, 3.5 hours to descend. And it seems like that pace is just above average for those on the trail. Temps were perfect until it started heating up about halfway down the mountain, not sure how to avoid that.

We hiked up to Red Pine. We started at 5:30am and the parking lot was pretty full. The water level was really low. We passed a lot of people when we headed down. We then took the trail over to Maybird. There was a lot less people. Maybird water level wasn’t low. Beautiful hike to both lakes.
