We parked at the unpaved lot / harder side and I agree that it was a moderate hike. My wife had our dog and I had our 4-year on my back. It was pretty much straight up the entire way and got a little sketchy on some of the rock climbing sections. There were many slippery parts from recent rain so be careful (especially if you’re carrying a child). Also, part way up we stopped at some blueberries and snacked on a few. Trekking poles would also have been useful on the way down. The view at the top was definitely worth it though!

Nice simple hike. Bring shoes you can get wet if you want to reach the falls

Easy and quick family friendly hike. Definitely recommend this one.

Great bike ride!

My 6 and 9 year old kids made the entire trail and I couldnt be prouder since it is strenuous for an adult. Views are spectacular and I really enjoyed the wildflowers. So much I bought an identifying guide book.

Great trail, pretty easy but amazing views.. lots of water and big waterfall!! Glad I got to explore Alaska trails!!

Awesome, quick post-work hike with the hubby and two bullmastiffs. It was a gorgeous sunny day and we had amazing views for minimal effort. We did take the longer, but easier, route from the paved parking lot (on Google maps it’s the “north” trailhead; at the Butte it’s the “west” trail).

Gorgeous Hike, not a real clearly marked trail. There is a better trail that I cut up on the saddle but I’m not sure where this started. The only reason this received a 3 star rating from me and not higher was that it’s marked as moderate and the top mile is some pretty gnarled rock crawling and scree. Not undoable but not somewhere I’d bring a novice or kids. I did see the obligatory ptarmigan and about 6 moose, one cow calf pair that prompted a 150yrd retreat back up the trail as they were using the portion I needed at that particular moment. All in all a great hike!

Easy trail with amazing views of the mountains and glacier.. lots of super cold running water.. beautiful flowers along the way..

My favorite part of this hike was the top of the cliffs section. Great views of the glacier and very lush at the end of July. We decided to end our hike with about 20 minutes left to the end of the trail due to crummy weather.

Straight up you go but worth the views at the top. Cloudy day but could wait a minute as the clouds passed in and out for clearer views. Saw no bears. A memorial bench about 1/3 the way up and abundant wildflowers about 1/2 the way up where you can expect a short break in the steep elevation climb. 2 and 1/2 hours up and 2 down with a stop for lunch on the way back.

Absolutely stunning views. Bring big spray and trekking poles. Took about 5 hours round trip. Saw a few mountain goat as well.

This was a difficult trail. Pretty much straight the whole way up with few switch backs. Trail was not super well marked at times but was still fairly easy to follow. Worth it for the incredible views at the top. Lots of flowers blooming when we hiked (end of July). Took up about 5ish hours total. Definitely glad we brought snacks and plenty of water.

well maintained trail! it took my friend and i just under 4 hours to complete with hanging at the top for a little. it’s a constant but not severe incline.

Deep woods walk. We walked into a large bull moose!

Pretty easy going hike with a great view at the snow field! :)

Nice waterfall. The upper viewing platform has the best view of the falls. The lower trail gets you closer and is much cooler near he river.

This trails goes so much further that listed. The forest is so lush don't expect to get any good views until you get much higher

Had 4hrs to complete this trail up and down before the last shuttle back to Seward. I accomplished it at a quick, relentless pace with my 40lb pack to boot. Even took a 15 min rest and chat at the little shelter up top. Beautiful trail and a great workout. Most will want to give themselves 5-6hrs minimum based on fitness and whether it’s a leisure hike.

Beautiful hike lots of atvs and bikes but they all slowed down for those of us who where walking.

Beautiful! Gorgeous day. Kids had a great time. Views were exellent. Didn't make it the full 25 miles around the lake but had a great time nonetheless.

Nice easy hike with fall and Gorge views. We stoped by Mirror lake adjacent to hike as well.

Amazing. Made it to the shelter and the fog settled in. Beautiful views and well groomed trail. The meadows were amazing with flowers in bloom. Saw Marmots but no bears. Last part of trail we slagging through some snow but trail well marked. Shelter was very cool and we stopped the hike there as fog was too thick to see much beyond. Blue ice glaciers were massive and very picturesque. Saw some people hiking on Exit Glacier which was cool to see. Not too many people. Would recommend anytime.

Short hike, pretty bridges to the falls. Great place to get out for a quick breath of fresh hair.

it was completely cloudy so you couldn't see anything higher than Marmot meadow, but the views we did have were really nice and the trail was nice as well

agree with other reviewers, moderate difficulty at least.

new to anchorage, took my boyfriend and I about 5 hours. beautiful views but you can see the highway most of the time, was great to be able to bring the dog along. didn't see any bears. no snow on the trail July 2018
