Dec 11th. Very little snow and what was there was compact. Spikes were only required to make the final ascent to the Fire lookout and descending the Jewel Pass trail. Great single track down the Jewel Pass in a nicely forested area. Very high winds at Barrier Lake.

Wide open vistas and well marked. Winter paradise for sure

Nice, easy trail with very gradual elevation gain. You are mostly in the forest until you reach the lake. Good for quick a winter hike. As of Dec 8/18, the trail is hard packed snow - no snowshoes or traction devices needed, though this might change over the next few days as the snow melts and refreezes.

Windy but not much snow cover. Good over all hike

Bring your bear spray. Proper hiking boots and attire make the hike nice. It could be done in regular runners. (I saw a lady hiking in flat shoes - she was not pleased with her shoe choice. The view at Rawson Lake was worth it from what she said!) Lot's of snow.

Completed on December 1. Easy hike with great views. Trail was packed so no need for snowshoes yet.

Completed Chester Lake two weeks ago and it was a wonderful trail! Beautiful scenery, good steep sections to warm you up, and very rewarding lake at the end to sit and relax, have some lunch, and watch some of the backcountry skiers.

Very well marked, great views, will do this one again come summer.

Trailhead was well marked with parking. Many different routes you can take (hike, snowshoe, ski...etc.)Took a few beginners up this trail, and didn't seem to have many issues. Views from the top were beautiful. Lots of Gray Jays and they are not shy, they will land on your hands if you let them!

Just finished this snowshoe trail and it was pretty good. first 1.5km will get you warmed up and your legs going. After that it is pretty much smooth sailing. The mountains surrounding the area are beautiful but since this is 'winter' the lake area is somewhat anticlimactic. Will enjoy coming back in the summer to do this one again.

Good fall/early winter hike if you have micro spikes. Some deep snow up top (don’t forget the gaiters) near the lakes, but lakes are frozen and you can easily traverse across them. Will be back in the spring/summer.

I LOVED this hike today. It was stunning with all the snow, reminded me of a winter wonderland. Such a nice and easy hike. Highly recommended

more snow than we expected on the top portion moving toward valley trail. without snow tires it was impossible to make it up moose mountain road in a little car, so we walked it. it was a good thing it was at the start of the day, because I don't think we would have made it at the end. nice winter hike.

me and my friends did this hike today ....very nice easy hike ...no slippery sections ....there was snow but easy to manage...beautiful views of Barrier lake and Mount Baldy .

I did this hike for the first time this morning with our Dog Club, it was easy and enjoyable. Non-hikers commented that it was approachable and the most experienced felt that the scenery to Karst Spring was well worth the first few boring kilometres. Bonus, it was nice and quiet at this time of the year with a few inches of snow on the ground plus the sun was out for most of our trip.

Enjoyed the hike. Went on Oct 28, weather was perfect for a hike, sunny with temperatures around 8 degrees. Some elevation to climb but gradual, would consider it to be an easy to moderate hike. We started at Paddy’s flats and hiked towards the river, poor signage - difficult to find the start of the trail. Nice views of river at beginning of hike. After crossing hwy there is a climb that brings you to an opening with great view of mountains - good spot to break for a snack/lunch. Lots of mountain bikers and they don’t have bells to warn you they are near. Some call out to warn you, some do not. Our group had a near miss with a young mountain biker who didn’t have good control when riding down a hill. Pointing it out to keep an eye out for bikers coming behind you. Overall, hike was great!

Really nice and easy but don’t go there when it’s cloudy , the end of the trail was completely fog :( but still nice hike for beginner !! I enjoyed it with my dog and women ! It took us 3 h back and forth

Super fun and relatively easy hike! The view at the top is amazing. Can’t wait to snowshoe this trail once more snow comes along.

Did this hike Nov 3, 2018. High of 10 degrees, slight wind, mainly overcast. First 60% of the trail was greasy and we had to put on crampons to stop from slipping everywhere. Middle portion ice and some snow. Top portion by lake has deep snow. Crampons necessary and likely snowshoes for upper area. Mud should not be a problem since freezing temps incoming.

This hike isn't what I would call "super easy". More moderate to difficult since it is essentially straight up. Very few flat areas. Use my GPX data since All Trails map is out of date.

The Good:
Nature, outdoors, some okay scenery on the way up, vigorous hike
Scenery around the lakes is beautiful

The Bad:
Aggressive climb from trailhead to lakes
Mostly within treeline
Few views along the way

Took the dogs here. Was a quiet, peaceful hike good for all ages. Despite other reviews we found the trails too be pretty well marked. Although we didn’t run into any it was very evident that the free range cattle are out and around!

We loved this hike! Did today, brought our pup and it was perfect. Windy walking around the lake to get to the trail but besides that awesome! Gets steep by the look out point. Beautiful views would do again :)

Did this trail on October 28th. Was very clear, showed a bit in the peak but warmed up. Packed snow on jewel pass section but manageable with spikes. Great view and a decent work out. Finished in just under 4 hours with a few breaks.

Did this last year with snowshoes. Super fun!

Short and nice. Windy but not as bad as windtower! Will go back in the summer for a change of season!

This trail is nice all throughout all the seasons, it’s a bit strenuous once you start going up but the switchbacks offer some relief. I hiked this trail last week and it had quite a bit of snow so make sure you bring some clamp-ons if you have them.

she didn't have a lot of fun out there today cut the temperature was very mild and the trail was not at all icy.
