The trail itself was lovely! We used a photo of the map to navigate the trails. The trails were poorly marked, so many times we had to guess where we were and bushwhack until we crossed the trail. We enjoyed the railroad trail the most, but combined it with the "regular" trail. (see my Recording) Overall, it was a lovely park to hike in and well kept. I'd hike here again!

A really good trail for families. I have a 14, 11, and 8 year old and they loved it. It is mostly flat and spends about 80% of the time in the woods. The other part is at the half way point at the beach/pavilion area. It was a very crowded beach day and I was the only person with a hiking bag. They have picnic tables at the beach area so we were able to have snacks/lunch there. We saw only one person in the wooded area but a TON of people at the beach area.

great trail, amazing view, not long at all! definitely not for those who aren’t fans of hills because it is a small climb but worth it :) one of my new favorite trails in the area

Map provided by the ranger station is terrible, very difficult to differentiate roads from trails, no labeling of trails or even where Mt Misery is on the map. Despite that, this was a pleasant hike with nice views. When we came down from the peak we continued on the blue blazed trail into the woods rather than walking back on the road. Although not clearly marked as such, this is the Pachaug/Nehantic trail which splits at a point where an old railroad bed is visible. We turned right onto the Nehantic which eventually meets the road which takes you back to the parking area. Adds about a mile to the walk.

Hiked this trail yesterday (7-17-2018) and a year ago as well. Trail is very poorly marked and the map is not useful. Yesterday there were lots of bees, some were marked. Went over one large fallen tree and there was a hive in the tree (not marked) that I din not see until half over the tree. Got stung! would be a great trail for a Scout troop to take on and provide better trail markings and a better map! Trail is very nice and not difficult but definitely needs to be better marked!

An easy loop trail with good views and an enjoyable hike.

Great, relatively short hike. My 8 and 11 year old kids love this trail!

All steep incline but well worth the view at the top!

This was a great hike for us and the dog, it provides great views of The County. We went up the North Peak trail first, across the Ridge trail to the South Peak then went down using the Notch trail as an easier alternative to get back to the truck. All the trails were marked really well, the only time we struggled was when we got off the Notch trail we had to walk through the campground pretty much on our own to find the parking lot. When we got back to the parking lot we were able to take the dog swimming in Echo Lake to cool down.

Good short hike. The trail up is well marked. Decent incline but peters out before it gets too hard. Great overlook! I took Fire Tower Rd down to complete the loop.

Great hike with beautiful views. There are a few different trails ranging in difficulty. South Peak Trail offers some great elevation and a little rock climbing which is fun. Notch Trail is beautiful...less strenuous...lots of rock steps. The trail to North Peak is steep and not great footing. Ridge Trail which connects North and South Peak is a nice hike and not too strenuous. All trails are marked really well. I return often!!

I loved this trail! Beautiful views with camping along the ridge and at the south peak. South peak trail is very steep.

This hike had lots of different trails, things to see, easy directions, and parking.

Not really a hike but more or less a woodland walking trail next to a fully operational historical site... gift shop ,icecream and restrooms next to the castle. You can take a tour for $6 per adult for the castle portion (worth it) or watch a free little movie near with admission area. Pretty neat in all honesty. Awesome views of the water along the outside of the castle.

Was ok, lots of uphill to start, first overlook is shrouded by trees. 2nd is very nice. Might as well just skip the loop and walk back down the trail, half the “hike” is on maintained gravel roads.

I was in town looking for a hike that would get my heart rate up. This is definitely a fun one! Not too hard and not to easy!

Great, challenging hike with very steep climbs - about 5 ups and downs before the view. Avoid when rainy as the rocks can be slick. Worth the view though!

Really nice hike! Close to Foxwoods, with views of Foxwoods from the top. I took my kids (10 & 9) and we really enjoyed this hike. We stopped at the pond, the wigwam, and took a break at the top. On our way up, we saw a bobcat. Great place, will head back!

Super challenging hike with nearly vertical climbs. A good workout. Like another reviewer I saw two large black snakes. This hike will be really nice in the fall!

Very good hike. Great view from the top. Required a little bit of climbing. Great hike for tourist looking for slight adventure

Nice. easy side of moderate. would have been a little bored but we took the gold trail for a rockier path and better views. the old pavilion was really neat and enjoyed climbing on the jette at the beach. a little humid and 79 degress.

Really nice view!

It’s easy and slowly get to be med-hard

This was a pretty sweet hike for RI. There’s a couple cool spots to chill for a bit. Saw a few turkey vultures and two large black snakes up in a tree, that was surprising haha.

This is one my favorite

amazing, challenging, and beautiful views of the pond

I’ve hiked these trails since I️ was a child! Great look out points and good incline for exercise!
