Bring fly pole for Graylings, also if want can try bottom fishing and get some cutthroats. Very fun hike and fishing!

Really amazing trail! I hiked it solo on 9/16/18. I was afraid of bears but did have spray. Just like everyone has posted, it is a moderately rocky trail so watch your step, almost no flat portions but no exposed slabs or anything like like, worth the hike!!!! Note, the rocks were a bit slippery because it had rained the night before. Make sure to wear hiking shoes. The trail took me under 2 hours to summit and a bit over an hour to descend. I am from CT and am used to hiking steep trails in the White Mountains but I am not used to the elevation. Bring water, a snack, and take your time.

Hard but definitely worth it. The last creek crossing is a bit unnerving but the logs are rather steady. The views are spectacular! The wild flowers are everywhere, the creek and various falls are picturesque, all culminating in the two lakes at the top. However basically the whole hike is very steep once you pass Pine Creek Falls which makes both up and down tiring. But for those who are willing to put in the work, you will be glad you came! Also, if you can, bring a camera. And I was able to camp to the right of the smaller lake near the more western stream that comes from the western part of the falls coming from the top of the lakes. As I had to carry all my gear for the night and I didn't have polls and I am a fairly small person, it took me 4 1/2 hours to get to the top and 3 1/2 hours to get down, but that was going slow, carrying a lot of weight and trying to be careful. The trail is well trafficed but not crowded, so yes you'll see people but you can still enjoy the lonliness of the woods. All together definitely worth it!

The lake is freezing but I recommend jumping in anyway.

An excellent hike/trail run if you’re looking for something quick!

We absolutely loved this hike. The elevation change was a challenge but the views and lakes were well worth it. What a great hike!

Less busy trail. The portal creek road is challenging, best to have 4x4 or AWD with high clearance. Worth the drive and hike. Bring water, bear spray and your fly rod.

Busy trail. Best to head up early and on the weekday. Bring your fly rod, water and bear spray. Worth the rocky hike.

Beautiful views. At the right time of year, the wildflowers are amazing. Bring water and bear spray.

Easy, dog friendly trail.

Loved this hike. I’m a beginner hiker so this was a bit difficult but it was beautiful and worth it. There are not very many flat spots so it continuously goes uphill but the lake at the top is breath taking!

Great hike, my son even made it and he’s only 5. Beautiful spot.

Great views, saw a Moose and two black bear at the lake.

Great trail - very scenic, easy at times and hard at times. It’s worth the view at the top. Our group consisted of 4 amateur hikers ages 46-72 and we made it. We earned our beer at Moonlight Basin afterward!

Great place to dump your trash. Anita is always there to clean it up. Be sure to give her a wave as you walk past her house on the way to the falls. I like to leave plastic water bottles along the way so they're there for the next time I come through.

Absolutely gorgeous hike! Take the time to visit the many waterfalls that you pass on the way. It is completely worth it! Much harder trail than Grotto due to the length and the rocks. We didn’t make it to the lake due to us losing daylight and the rain. But definitely intend to start earlier next time and finish this trail. Ended our journey at Chasm Falls which has the little bridge. Pack lots of water, you’ll need it. Saw a few wildflowers on the way.

Very nice hike, not long at all. Much longer drive up there than the hike itself. Not strenuous or taxing. More like an afternoon stroll through the park. Well, not exactly but close. I kept going another 3-4 miles beyond Grotto Falls on the Hylite Creek trail. 90% of dogs weren’t on a leash but that didn’t bother me. I kinda think if they are well behaved it’s almost torture to keep them on a leash. I didn’t like the 3 motocross bikes coming up the trail but if it’s legal then they have a right to enjoy the trail too. If not legal then GTFO!

great views at first falls and as you hit switchbacks above 7000 feet. At the top, first small lakes are beautiful. Pine Creek Lake is behind last saddle. it is larger and shoreline is large boulders and rock. nice spot for lunch before descent.

Beautiful views and forgiving trail.

We loved this trail, biked it, it was a nice challenge going up, and fun going down. The lake is beautiful.

This trail is great. Very short but it has some decent elevation changes so it keeps your heart pumping. The trail itself is very well groomed and taken care of. The Gallatin river runs right next to the trail the entire time and there are plenty of spots where you can climb down and enjoy the water. The falls at the end are gorgeous and if you walk down the stone steps to the base of the falls there's a great swimming pool there and even a small area to do some rock climbing if thats your thing. I definitely recommend this one!

Beautiful views of the valley, and nicely shaded!

once you get past pine Creek falls it's switchbacks and uphill hiking the rest of the way. It was definitely a workout and I had to take multiple breaks along the way.

It was cold at the top - bring long sleeves to throw on once you’re up there! It was stunning as usual. Moderate hike with light traffic.

A little rocky but is is worth the view

I love this hike. It is shaded a loop is always nice to do and I find it very relaxing. A little secret is of you park in the parking lot you have about a mile hike across a field before you even get to the trail head. So many people turn in by the homes and Park alongside the road and start right at the trailhead!
If I had to post a negative some times bikers come flying down the trail with not a lot of regard for others but usually they are decent. Try it! I’m sure it will become a favorite!! This is probably my favorite hike in Bozeman

I love this hike. It is shaded a loop is always nice to do and I find it very relaxing. Doesn’t take long to get to the top and it is a great family hike doing this with my three young kids. Enjoy!

This place was beautiful. There’s a lot of people but overall it’s amazing.

Awesome hike! Saw a deer and a moose. The “lake” at the top is very much a small pond, but it’s worth it to hike up to the top of the rocks at the end for the beautiful panorama! Big and beautiful blue sky yesterday (8/26) but was pretty chilly at the top, make sure to bring layers!
