Great city trail in Portland’s acclaimed Forest Park. The lower trail follows a stream. The upper trail leads to a lovely view of the city and Mt. Hood beyond from the gardens of the elegant Pittock Mansion. Water bowl for doggies and the ticket office for the indoor tour of Pittock.

Hard but worth it

Pretty easy hike, great little stream. when you take the turn up to Pittock Mansion be prepared for the incline. I've hiked this trail two times now. The first time I wasn't in the best shape so it was a nice burn. The second time I was in better shape so it wasn't as bad, but I powered up it and was out of breath by the time I got to the top because I was hiking up pretty quickly.

I thought this was a great hike! So fun for the puppers and I. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful.

My all time favorite hike. But it has gotten so crowded in recent years. I visited here just weeks before the fire closed it in 2017.

Very sad. But can’t wait for it to reopen.

Fantastic hike, gorgeous in every way, waterfalls, lush greenery, flowers, mushrooms, moss, all that's missing are the little fairies :) Took us about 5-6 hrs, just what we needed.

Tough hike with all the mud. But cool waterfall, and good swimming hole.

muddy but super fun! those “stairs” are slight killers tho lol

Great stroll in the forest, and located right in the city. There is a creek running through part of it and an old mossy stone building to check out.

on Maunawili Falls Trail

The 4mi trail was VERY muddy today, which meant the exposed roots and branches were very slippery. This is a moderate hike because of the mud - not because of the length or elevation change. We only saw 4 other people going up (started around 9:30am) but counted 56 on our way down (we were back at the car by noon). Parking in the neighborhood wasn’t a problem, but do be mindful of driveways and mailboxes.

Be prepared with hiking boots and patience! The waterfall was pretty, but I’m not sure I’d do this hike again, and will stick to bringing visitors to Manoa Falls.

If you only have time for one hike in PDX, do Upper Mcleay to Pittock mansion and pack a lunch for when you get to the top.

Amazing trail with an even more amazing waterfall at the end. Ensure you wear good hiking shoes, as the trail forces you to cross water and mud.

does anyone know someone to contact for a reopen date of this trail?

Not able to go today as the trail is closed from being washed out after heavy rainfall. Patrol car handing out fines as they have had to rescue numerous

people in the last week

1st run in a couple years... defiantly a challenge little slick on the back but well worth it..

I went in November and trail didn't have snow till half way up.we didn't have right shoes or microspike but we able to go the top and great view!

Miss this place

my very first trail in Oregon

Road to the trail head is closed for the season at Heather Lake trail head, be prepared to hike an additional 5 miles up the road to Mt pilchuck’s trail head.

Hike is beautiful with multiple views to magnificent mountains and finally to refreshing waterfall. trail is muddy, make sure to use good hiking shoes and bring spare shoes you will need it on the way back home.
it's mostly covered by tall trees and bamboos.
dont forget to dip into water it's very refreshing.

very muddy but nice hike overall

Went 2-4-18. Very muddy with lots of roots. The trail is moderate, but the mud and roots make it tougher and slow. I would rate it between a medium and hard. However, the hike is beautiful and the falls are amazing. There are 10, 30, and 40 ft jumps. Tons of fun and worth fighting through the mud. Good tennis shoes or hiking boots are essential.

The waterfall area was so beautiful and peaceful!

One of my husband's and I's favorites!

great trail. was there today, sunny and a little chilly. amazing and beautiful!

Very glad that we went on this hike while in Hawaii. If you come prepared with shoes that you are okay getting muddy, you will love it. Also, don’t skip jumping into the water at the falls.

This is my favorite trail!

My husband and I were visiting from out of town and really enjoyed this trail. It was beautiful and appropriately challenging.
