Worth the hike!!! :) definitely doing this trail again!

Absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn’t suggest doing it in the rain or snow as the boulder fields would be pretty tricky and you could easily break an ankle if wet but a stunning hike. Finished in 5 hours.

Fun trail, but definitely not an easy trail. I would rate it as moderate. Starts off fairly steep with a little scree section before it mellows out and leads into a nice little rock garden. After that it’s fairly easy to get to the top. I would say the hardest part is coming down the first steep scree section. Took me way longer than it should! If you’re looking for great views and a fun challenge I recommend this mountain!

Not to hard but not to easy, good fun hike with beautiful views!

This hike offers some really spectacular views, and from a hike that is fairly easy and accessible and with a good quality trail. There were some muddy patches and a few icy bits in the shaded areas, but overall the trail was excellent. When I was there it was a very clear day and you could easily see Denali a hundred miles away; Mount Redoubt was even visible at nearly 150 miles distant! This was one of the best hikes I’ve seen for how much you can see versus how relatively easy it is to get to. This isn’t a well-kept secret, though, so expect crowds—especially on the lower half of the trail.

Easily one of my favorite spots. Beautiful views, easy to access, free parking, dog friendly (on leash, poo bag stations) and very well maintained. Definitely recommend bug repellent in the spring and summer, especially at the back side of the lake.

Enjoyed a nice walk up the trail today. The incline is pretty gentle and was pretty easy for my 10yr old. We didn't make it to the end of the trail, stopped just above the lakes. Amazing views as far as the eye can see. Only bother was the amount of unleashed dogs on the trail. Please leash your four legged friend on the trail. Even if yours is super friendly, others might not be.

Great views in early September, had a clear day in the high 50’s F*. Finished in a few hours then went to pizza man. “Big win”

another must do! really nice wide gravel trail to start with a couple of bridges to cross the river. then a switchback climb leading you past a waterfall and onto a more challenging boulder field to navigate. once you are through the boulders, there is a gradual incline before making it to the first reeds lake. if you have more time, I recommend continuing on the the 2nd lake.

The last 200 feet is very difficult. I got to see some moose on a side trail and the view was outstanding. It was a heavily trafficked trail, but I knew that going in, from the other reviews. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a challenge.

Good views like every other mountain in the state, this app labels it as hard but it’s definitely not. It should be rated as moderate.

Such an awesome and beautiful hike. After a few rest stops, some pickings of blueberries and crowberries on the backside of Baldy and a fair amount of peaceful time at the top, it took me about 4 hours (starting at the bottom of Baldy). Can’t wait to return with a drone.

On a clear day you might catch a view of Denali and Foraker if you're lucky! the ridge line views are just beautiful. it took us two and a half hours there and back.

great easy hike

All the stairs got me a little winded. After that though, it's like a choose your own adventure, scrambling up all the rock. Definitely flat at the top, hence the name. Went on a beautiful bluebird day and got views of everything from Iliamna to Denali. (of course, you can get that from the parking lot too... :P) Sept 8, 2018. Took me about an hour and a half to get from parking lot to the top, including breaks.

It was a fun scramble at the top but too many people. 1 hour and 15 minutes total up and back.

AMAZING hike! The portion that winds through the boulder field was pretty fun! I recommend this hike! Amazing scenery and awesome day hike. Finished it in about 5 hours and stopped often to take photos!

I don't think I would necessarily classify this hike as 'hard' but I also did it on an absolutely perfect day in terms of weather conditions. It would certainly be more challenging in poor weather or with small children.
Very busy trail but that was also probably increased due to the great weather and time I went (late afternoon on a Saturday).

Tons of fun, highly recommend stopping here. good mix of difficulty but well worth the view. little slick if raining!

Beautiful and scenic views for a sunset stroll. The leaves were magnificent on the mountains, and the reflections on the lake were amazing!!

made it 2/3 of the way with old dogs, it was raining, and we were concerned with wet boulders for the rest of the way up. but it's gorgeous at where we stopped

Not easy
But fantastic views

We didn't make it to the very top, but we got pretty close. We caught a ride with the bike shop downtown (Flattop Mountain Shuttle they were great, 5 stars for them too!) and had to turn around early enough to catch a ride back. Hard trail but fun, we'll have to try it next time we're in Alaska. Be sure to have your mountain goat shoes on!

The mine was cool. The hike was very quick and easy. The lake was pretty. For pics and more info visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/09/05/a-day-at-independence-mine-state-historical-park/

Difficult hike especially with a bunch of snow but wonderful view from the top!

Beautiful, peaceful views of Gold Cord Lake at the top. We got up to the top in about twenty minutes, and took about that long to get back down again.

Great trail. Easy for those who hike often. I can see where it may be considered easy/moderate for some due to the slight incline of the trail. Beautiful views of the lake and Independence Mine once you reach the top.

Very beautiful hike and great view of Eagle River and on a good day, you might see part of Anchorage as well.

This hike is amazing and the views are so stunning. We went out with the intentions that it was a very “easy” hike like most of the reviews claim, however I would consider it more moderate, especially for people who aren’t avid hikers. The first half is pretty easy, but towards the top it gets a bit sketchy and it’s pretty steep. Just know that you are going up the whole way. Once you get up there it is definitely worth it, and the way down takes half as long and is much more enjoyable!
