we loved it very much. We went there on Saturday morning. we came across several people and 8 horses

Hiked in late February. Nice trail wide enough for a car to drive on thru a marsh/wooded area. The great part of this trail is all the different kind of birds to see on the trail...osprey, hawks, vultures, bald eagles, cranes, ducks, etc. A half mile of the trail is following the shore of the Potomac River, which is so wide at this point it looks like a lake (only disappointing part to distract from the nice river view is the amount of trash that's washed on the shoreline). Overall, a peaceful, easy walk on a temperate, late winter day...

This little haven in the middle of Fairfax is the nicest place you can get away to with just driving 10-15mins from home. We enjoy every time we come here. Mostly for walking, fishing, and biking. Its open year round.

So much fun with my son and wife! Seen so many of nature’s gift.. loved it!

Nice trail. It goes into old town. However, I’d rather ride a bike on this trail. Overall, peaceful and nice.

Nice loop around a quaint lake. Perfect place to run! There are a lot of activities in the park to do other than the trail like fishing, golfing, mini-golf, carousel, train, boating, and frisbee golf

Beautiful hike. My dog loved it. He even met a horse for the first time. Perfect place to walk your dog on a hot day because of the shade from all of the trees as well as a cool stream.

Great trails for strollers, casual walkers, Race Walker training and Runners. Tidewater Striders have fun races for all levels every Tues in July!!

Easy, flat hike. After the rain there is some areas that are muddy/watery. Lots of mosquitoes.

I live down the road from this trail and love it for biking and running. One of the best 3mi loops I have been on. Tons of scenery and a variety of terrain (rocks, roots, flat plains, etc). I am here 3 times a week. Adequate parking, safe, and multiple trail routes. The outer loop is the 3mi one I am reviewing.

The most interesting run was when a beaver was swimming at the same pace as me.

This is a great hike close to home. The trail is not cleaned up of branches and fallen trees regularly but I don’t mind. The lake is beautiful.

Terrible ticks & flies in the summer, not much shade, and awful amount of debris on trail near the shoreline. This may be better in the cooler months, or for birders, but not for me!

This is the place where lot of marathon runners train.

Great for walking and running. Sometimes there are too many bikers which can be annoying if you’re running or walking. Lots of shade and a few bathrooms available.

Lots of cover in the summer. Great pond for spotting turtles, birds and fish. Nice little nature center.

Beautiful foliage, nice that it is so close for a quick escape. Easy, shady trail, flat except for a few rocky areas. Mosquitos also enjoy the shade, so remember your bug spray in the summer months!

Very easy, but unique trail you could walk in flip flops. I highly recommend you bring plenty of bug spray as the mosquitoes were out in force!

Beautiful paved trail, perfect for walking with a stroller. The views are amazing, the people are nice, and the breeze is refreshing on the hottest of days. By the time you are done, it doesn’t seem like you have walked that far.

Follow the Canal Path signs uphill. Don’t quit, you’re almost to a dead end at Gordon W Shelton Boulevard. Frustrating.

Today was the hottest day of the year thus far at 85 degrees. The Martha Custis Trail is 100% paved, which means convection and radiant heat coming up from the pavement, while solar heat from the sun beams down — it’s like being in an oven. I haven’t adapted to running in hot weather this year yet. So, I knew that this run was going to suck.

I started out at about 11 am, and what was planned to be a trail running activity turned into a day hike activity, fairly quickly. The heat was just too much trying to maintain a 10K pace. I ended up jogging and taking breaks often, the whole distance. Other than that the trail was great! Just beware of the many bikers. I ended up completing a total distance of 14 miles at 735 feet elevation gain, when you converge my two recordings.

I plan to start these runs earlier, like 15 minutes before the break of dawn or thereabout. The aim is better quality outings. I’ll bag this one and look to do better next time out.

Absolutely beautiful and I plan to come back. I didn't know that I had to pay 10$ because I don't live in Fairfax but it was definitely worth the 10$! I will definitely visit again.

My go-to place for hiking, walking the dogs or running. Fairly easy and flat 4.7 mile trail. Go early as gets busy on nice and sunny days. Free for fairfax county residents ($10 for non-residents).

Beautiful views

Excellent walk along the Hampton Roads side of the Chesapeake Bay as well as a history lesson if you are interested. You can walk inside the fort or along the sea wall or both. Great breezes off the water make for a pleasant walk on a warm day!

$10 fee to get into the park for non residents

Fun trail with our 6 & 10 year old kids. It's a busy trail but we still saw lots of water fowl, a bald eagle, and a few deer. The leg of the trail that takes you through a neighborhood is bit strange. Lots of trash though, especially at the edges of the lake. Definitely needs a clean up day.
