I went on this hike with my daughter and three grandkids. The oldest is 9 the middle is 6 and the baby is going to be one tomorrow. It was a lot of fun. My daughter carried the baby in a front pack and the rest of us had packs with lunch and necessities. The kids slowed down on the beach part. Not because they were tired there were just so many treasures to be found. I would recommend this to family’s.

I don't think we did the "hike" from beach 1, but did walk down the busy path to the beach from the parking lot trail! Seemed great for exploring with kids! Beach wood everywhere, starfish and sea urchins galore out by the big haystack rock. Very cool spot! Had a great weather today too!

Beautiful beach! If you can go at low tide, check the rocks for starfish!

Extraordinary! Mother Nature put on a magnificent display with a sunny, blue-sky day mixed with ethereal fog that rolled past the beach for a time. Seeing the seastacks swathed in light fog was amazing! The beach is strewn with huge drift logs/trees that are a fun challenge to photo. I've trekked down many beach walks and this is one of my favorites, for sure!

Mom and I did this loop hike for the first time in 2011. It was very enjoyable and not difficult at all due to no elevation change. It was perfect weather for us. The scenery on each side of the "spit" is varied and beautiful. The bay is to the east and the ocean to the west. We saw some crabbers doing their business in the shallow bay, and there were pelicans in flight.

As beautiful as dunes can be, however 3 stars because: 1) some benches are too tall: probably, the soil settled with time; 2) the dunes block the view of the ocean; 3) "Warning! Mountain lion is active in this area" as posted in the kiosk by the bridge leading from the loop north-east to Alder dunes. "Is active", not merely "sighted."

Excellent trail but watch out for sunburn!

Went on a rainy day, so that might affect my review. There were some really cool rock formations but the rocks on the ground were kind of hard to navigate. Be sure to check the tide charts before you go.

Fantastic coastline!

Pretty and dramatic coast line great tide pools. Hole in the Wall was pretty cool, walking through is fun. Check the tide charts before going, if tide is in you can't walk through the hole, also the walk up top of the beach on loose rocks is a little harder than the hard sand below.

I hiked on a clear day and the view was spectacular! Trail is a bit narrow and I was uncomfortable winding down the cliff to the bottom with my dog, so we didn't make the loop. There's really no shade along the path and it was getting too hot for the dog, so cutting the walk worked out fine.

This is a beautiful hike with great views along the coast. I saw an island scrub jay and island fox, too. Easy hike and something that a family could do.

Great little loop with stunning views

Be prepared to scramble over piles of driftwood trees. The reward is a stunning beach where at low tide you can walk to the sea stacks and see starfish and more clinging to the sides. Low tide the day we went was -2.5, super low! We were able to walk on sand the whole way. Check the tide charts before you go.

Must do for all ages and abilities . . The beach is your “trail” . . the trail starts instantly on the beach. Go as little or as far as ya want . . great tide pools . . great ocean sound. Rocky beach . . Want a sandy beach? . . go to Shi Shi or Kalaloch Beach. Hole in the wall is a great unique feature.

I loved the photography here! Very easy hike, and definitely a great spot to easily access for sunset or sunrise if staying near by.

Not a difficult hike, but it can get pretty warm in the direct sun. Great views along the trail until you make your way down towards the boat launch area. Good quick hike to do if you are only on the island for the day.

Such amazing views and a beautiful place to be. It is definitely a popular spot to be at so if you are looking for some solitude I'd suggest going fairly early.

The hike wasn't hard at all and you'll get plenty of picture opportunities once you get to the end.

The sites are unbeatable. Tide pools are great. Drift wood burns quickly. Camp right next to the ocean with caution for high tide. This is not an actual "trail". It's a beach scramble through loose sand, and a lot of gallon sized rocks to large boulders. More walking on big rocks than on sand. Some areas are not passable at high tide. Many areas are quite slippery. Don't think you can go more than 10 miles per day.

A very nice place/beach to visit. Have a picnic there.

A nice trip in the evening with the sunset.

It was a cloudy day so there weren't any views of the mountains but the smell of the wild flowers and the views of Puget Sound and the islands in the distance were amazing.

Peaceful. Beautiful. Family Friendly. Sun was shining with a cool breeze blowing. Logs are a bit overwhelming as there are many and all together but not all the same size or stable. Awesome large rocks In water make for a pretty background.

Use caution crossing logs. Beautiful setting but challenging to get photos without people stepping into shot. Well worth the visit.

Good mix of forest and beach. On a weekday wasn’t terribly crowded and it’s exhilarating to go rock-hopping out to the big mesa-looking thing and snap a pic or two.

Perfect hike to a perfect beach... Bring Your Beer and watermelon !

Just, WOW! No wonder this beach is so popular. We could have stayed here all day and kind of wish we did—lots of families there with beach towels and picnics set up. Make sure to do the entire loop if you’re looking for some solitude, most of the families seemed to stay right near where the trail meets the beach. We went this weekend and had to climb over a decent amount of logs to get to the sand, keep this in mind if you or someone in your group would have trouble navigating this.
