amazing first experience can't wait to go back

Really nice trail that is convenient to St. Louis (and close to the burbs). I went trail running today, in the midst of hot and humid Missouri summer. The trail was perfectly shady with off-shoots to view the river from the bluffs. I ran the 5.3ish Clark trail and only had to walk partly up one ascent so the hills were reasonable for an experienced runner and a nice work out. The trail narrows near the fork between the two trails but was easy to navigate. I found the signage acceptable knowing to keep an eye out for trail markers. The trail was not terribly busy mid-Saturday morning but the parking lot was full. Highly recommend!

There are several fallen trees you have to navigate around and the signage is not great. Otherwise, it’s a gorgeous and shaded hike with views of the river below.

Cool trail on the lake. Had a nice breeze, clear weather, and swimming area. Nice overlook trail with good elevation that breaks off loop.

This trail is absolutely beautiful! Definitely a good beginner hike. Came here for a backpacking trip but cut the trip a day short. First day I was covered in seed ticks and went to wash off in the closest bit of water which had leaches in it. Beautiful trail just don't recommend coming here in August!

Excellent mix of terrains. Ranges from easily runnable sections to difficult rocky inclines. Liked the fact that it was tree-covered and shaded. Great views of the river. Had a great run out there and will come back the next time I’m in town.

returned and did the trail with the boy scouts. One of the few natural tunnels in the state.

I did this trail a couple of years ago and loved it. We didn't stick to the path highlighted in Red here however. We took the dashed line (shown in map) off-shoot to the Missouri River and saw River Otters swimming around. At the left end of the island looking at it here (no dashed lines shown), we found a trail that took us to the fork and saw great blue heron and was a cool place to see. Don't get lost however :-). All of this made for a long hike which was around 10 miles I'd guess.

Did this trail last weekend but had to stop at the creek. Water sources along trail are low because lack of rain and smelled so I would not filter.
Going south bound from Ozark Outdoor, at the 2.5 mile mark there are trees down over the trail and will require you to climb over them.
Overall great hike and beautiful views.

I took my 4 year old in early spring. We loved it! Climbing down the creek bed is difficult so take your time. Beautiful views once you get down the the bottom. Overall nice trail to bring young children or fur babies.

Did it twice, once in each direction! Not too buggy, rocks are (not surprisingly) slick in the shade but easy enough to keep your feet dry.

One of my girlfriend and I's favorite place to go :) Lots of views and you can see alot of deer on the lower levels. highly recommend for anyone, friendly for all ages

First hike, great experience! Panoramic views. We started at the east and ascended via the stairs. They are well maintained and really get the blood pumping. A few more inclines made for a great hike. Cooled down with the Meramec river trail.

First 1/4 to 1/2 mile a little tough but rest of trail easy enjoyable

This is my Happy Place..

A little bit of everything, terrain and scenery-wise. Very well maintained.

Awesome!!

Loved our mid-summer hike. Was steeper and more difficult than we expected but are definitely going back in the fall. It’s amazing that this beautiful area is tucked away here in the Midwest. Wear good hikers and bug spray for the valleys.

Amazing views all around this trail! As a big dude the end is tough but extremely rewarding!

The trail is a great way to see the beautiful canyon! Some of the creek bed can be rather steep and slippery so be sure to wear the appropriate footwear. Once you descend into the canyon the mosquitoes do get a little bit bothersome so remember the bug spray.

Always a great trail.

Great trail for kids! The beginning of the trail is a little exhausting if you aren’t used to elevation, but the rest is easy breezy! Beautiful views and photo opps. Lots of puppers on the trail so be on alert if your dog isn’t used to making friends.

Loved it! My wife, myself, and our five kids had a blast.

You know there are a few neg reviews...., but what it’s worth, it’s all opinion. I my self have been here twice once during a red flag day and once on the yellow flag. Some reviews are right if it’s during the “swim” season, then it’s probably not going to be as beautiful because there are a ton of people swimming through the natural slides of shit ins. However during the rainy or off season this park is gorgeous! Roaring waters, the smell of spruce and pine, greenish blue waters, a waterfall, traverse landscape...... I totally loved the shut ins during the red flag day. It was before the stores opened and tourist flooded it. We were one of about three couples there and it was peaceful and beautiful. I agree it should probably be rated a mild moderate. Probably not to good for kids in some places, but with a watchful eye should be ok.

we have been here a couple of times for short hikes when we just wanted to get out for awhile with the dogs. it is very easy to hike and the views are so beautiful.. Bring your camera.

This trail should definitely be marked as moderate. There are multiple steep and rocky inclines and a few drop offs. I would not recommended this trail for children. Also towards the end of the loop the trail split into 2 paths with neither of them heading back the correct way. Not my favorite trail by far.

Loved the River Scene Trail and the rugged path at the beginning of the hike. Bathrooms at the park were pristine clean. Very enjoyable!

Enjoyed the Lewis & Clark trail. Beautiful views of the Missouri River.

Good trail to run. Well maintained. A couple fallen trees to go around. I went on a Saturday morning. The trail was a little busy but is wide enough through most of the trail to accommodate the traffic.
