My favorite hike in the Smokies.

Lots of switchbacks but still pretty steep. Fairly difficult but the view is worth it.

good day hike. remember to pack enough clothes with elevation change from bottom to the top the temperature and weather can change pretty quickly.

Beautiful trail. Not too far and the elevation change is gradual so not bad at all. Hemlock Falls is beautiful and the hike up along Mocassin Creek is stunning. I will be hiking this trail again. We have seen dogs on some of the trails we hike and although they were dog friendly trails, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be on a leash. Other people don't know your dog and some people may be deathly afraid of dogs. Please consider other people when you bring your dogs.

I will start off by saying maybe this issue was because of the government shut down and having no forest rangers. However, this trail was being used by squirrel hunters and there were people hunting right off the parking lot for the trail head. WE COULD SEE THEM SHOOTING FROM THE TRAIL HEAD! Needless to say this was a 3 hour round trip wasted because we didn’t feel safe hiking with so many (obviously irresponsible) people shooting that close to the trail.

Climbed Table Rock on 1/9/19 with future son in law Jim. Try to climb early January each year to get the year off right. Cold but sunny day. Temp in mid 40s.
Love the climb. Strenuous is correct Well worth the view.

Very challenging trail for me, as it was my first back country camping trip, luckily I had my brother in law with me who has been here a couple of times and he was a big help. We did the trail clockwise and had no reals issue other than being out of shape with a heavy pack on. The trail is clearly marked and I agree with some of the other reviews that the mile markers are not entirely accurate. Please be cautious, as the the leaves and rocks are extremely slippery due to the recent rains. It took us a 3.5 hours to get to our campsite (3) and the next morning it took us 2 hours finish. I consider this moderate to strenuous. I will definitely hike this trail again.

My wife and I hike this trail on a regular basis with our two Golden Retrievers. We all love it!
There are always friendly people on the trail, and we often run into through-hikers of the Appalachian Trail
The views are fantastic!

Great easy hike today in the misty rain. The poplar tree is much bigger in person than in pics! Trail was great. Very beautiful area. Only about a mile hike to the tree.

cool mostly tree covered. but not a clear pathway kind of go your own way. easy walk nice historic sights

Went in November 2018. Right after a decent snow. About halfway up it was all snow and ice. Massive ice icicles were falling from the top of Alum Cave. Was a little daring trying to hurry up the frozen ground to get under the protection of the cave. Highly enjoyed the excitement of it all. The steps at Arch Rock were a solid sheet of ice. Fell only one time going down them. I enjoy the harder trails with a little twist of ice and snow.

Good hard hike with the best views I have ever seen besides the grand canyon and I'm afraid of heights so couldn't get to close to the edge. Will for sure do it again! So pretty!

Not strenuous at all, but a nice wide, relatively flat walk along the riverside with smaller falls appearing first and then a beautiful high set of falls at the end of mile. Take your mom.

GPS will take you to an entrance for the hike that'll take you about an hour to get to the tower. I wouldn't say it's hard but definitely a work out. The view is beautiful, the clouds are right in your face. Other pluses; camping is free and the drive up in nice.

The ranger was not exaggerating the amount of steps and elevation gain that are involved in this hike but as promised it has some great views. If you have knee hip or ankle issues be prepared for lots of uneven steps maybe consider using poles. We hiked this after a lot of rain so the trail was fairly muddy. No shortage of waterfalls to see on the way up. Lots of large boulders to stop and take a break. For SC this is a great option if you are looking for a challenge. Overall great hike.

On top as I type.... trail in good shape, and lives up to it’s difficult rating (but I’m not use to hiking). Would definitely recommend

Fun hike. Doesn’t take long and trail is well marked.

Okay so here we go I will try to be quick. We did this trail today January 11th 2019. Many people say they are hiking this trail and they are actually only doing a small portion of it. We parked on Hale Ridge Road which has parking for about 3 cars. The first mile is okay and then it was horrid with downed trees everywhere. Do NOT take anyone inexperienced on this trail right now. Go to one of the more popular starts which are shorter hikes and the trails are clear to the top. This would be an amazing hike minus all the storm debris and we were still happy with the day but I see so many people posting it’s a great hike and look at the mileage and it’s not the true 9 miles. Anyhow be aware that for a while this is twice the hike it normally is and a bit sketchy at times due to the blow down.

Nice hike and worth the effort. Not terribly difficult but challenging at times. The views were great since it was a clear day.

This is one of my favorite trails to do soon after it rains. The sound of the river towards the beginning of the hike, paired with the altitude gained is a wonderful experience.

great hike beautiful view

This Trail is generally steep and somewhat technical. It has three loops. one is easy, one is medium and one is definitely the most challenging. The trail needs a little bit of repair work. The leaves were thick when I was there and several trees had fallen in the trail. The Trail is easy to get to by car with the trailhead being right off the road. it also offers some very nice views. I mostly hiked the intermediate trail and you can get a great workout if you try to do it fast.

Great trail along the river!

Great views at the top! Hikes a good challenge as well, but definitely doable!

We hiked this trail Jan 11th 2019, about 3/4 of the way up there was a bad icy patch, not un-crossable with out clips but definitely not for the feint of heart. There were 9 of us and 4 were inexperienced hikers. This trail was hard but entirely worth the effort. The views from the top were worth all the pain of falling on the ice. Bring lots of water, it gets warmer as you ascend due to the sun shining on the mountain. There are plenty of places to rest and take great pictures.

Worth all the effort! from the moment you see arch rock you know this is gonna be a cool hike. inspiration point should be enough to propel you to the end of this hike, but if that's not enough allum bluff is a wonderful turn around point and not much further past inspiration point. 10/10 will definitely do this hike again.

A fun hike. A bit muddy but we enjoyed it. Kids did better than myself who slipped a few times. There's a small river to go through...seemed a lot didn't realize this. Wear proper hiking shoes or an extra set.

Waterfall was really nice and tucked away. A bit crowded for a few moments. Overall a cool hike.

Beautiful views on the way up and from the top!
