Cold this time of year. Bring a gps, paper map and compass. Somebody tried to mark the trail but with the fallen leaves it’s easy to lose it. Some interesting things to see along the way.

Beautiful!!

Really enjoyed this trip - hard to decide how to rate on difficulty though - easy roads most of it, but there are the creeks (I fell 3 times!) and it was really slippery getting to Big Creek Cave Falls...all of us there at the time (4) slipped down the hill a little. It's worth getting close, but be extra careful.

The scenery was wonderful. Well worth the time to explore, but be aware there are no real signs that show the loop or where the trails are at. It was fun to sort of make our own though.

Nice little trail with a great view at the river overlook.

Beautiful trail on a picture perfect 65 degree, sunny day. All passer-by’s and fishermen were friendly. Excellent day.

I consider this more of a walk than hike. Quick, easy, and informative historic sites.

Great hike for youngsters, nothing really jaw dropping along creek.

Really enjoyed this hike. Most of it was smooth, prime place for fall foliage. We got off track according to the app and climbed a very steep ridge to find the primitive trail. That section is everything that previous posters have said. There is an 8ish foot drop off a bluff that was covered in moss and very slick. We made it, and had a good time, but I’d advise treating this hike as an out and back. Hike to the turn off to the river, then turn around and head back to the trail head.

Nice loop trail. This is a fairly level trail, not overly strenuous. Some rocky areas and a few places where the trail branches but isn’t marked well. GPS or map and compass is a good idea. There’s a scenic overlook side trail about 1.5 Miles to the left if you are going counterclockwise (recommended direction), not sure where the side trail goes as we followed it for about .5 Miles and found nothing. Some decent water sources. Good combination of forest and glades.

Good trail, easy hike. Could be maintained better but not too bad! Good views of the creek and nature.

Amazing blue water and I saw an unidentifiable amphibian in the damn spillway about 2 feet long with hind legs. Amazing!

Loved the hike, the solidarity with nature, and was blessed by a waterfall!

Beautiful waterfall..when you finally get to it. Once we crossed the creek we drove the 5.8 miles as instructed and saw no turn off. Finally turned around and found the 1113 maker turned halfway over and covered by brush. Instructions say 5.8 miles, was more like 4 from bridge. The trail head was clearly marked with the 1140 that a previous hiker mentioned. Trail down was nice and wide, pretty clear. The falls were beautiful and worth the drive.

Just gorgeous!!!!!!!

Its basically a dirt access road that's gated from public vehicles. It leads between a decent city park/swimming hole (pavilion, fishing, jungle hymn, flat grass, rope swing nice place got a casual family outing)and an RV park (I guess). We quite the boring trail half way. It is smooth enough for a wheel chair though. This is on our don't bother with list. But maybe when we get old. I'd recommend it only to fat friends wanting exercise.

Hiking on Sept 29, 2018.. very nice hike! The creek is cool and so is Shaddox cabin.. even though it’s close to 80 degrees it’s pretty cool.. lots of shade

Very cool old homestead sites and area history.

Good fishing spots. Easy to get to.

Great little hike downhill ... to get there. The reward is well worth the trek back up the hill.

Beautiful trail, there are several loops for all skill levels. Take the bottom trail to the falls, you can easily walk right up to the bottom of it.

Love Richland creek, falling water and all the other falls along this beautiful creek

Beautiful trail.Very easy, yet enjoyable for all skill levels. I did this after a pretty heavy downpour and the trail wasn't slick or dangerous. Great trail for the summer when you want to jump in the water for a quick cool down then hop right back on the trail and keep going.

Very beautiful even during the dry season. My wife and I, along with another couple backpacked Sneed's Creek from the Compton trailhead and then looped back by way of Hemmed in Hollow. Sneed's Creek was somewhat overgrown and hard to see the trail, but was very beautiful nonetheless. We camped north of the old homestead near where Sneed's Creek feeds into the Buffalo River. Many primitive campsites were along the trail. We filtered all of our water from the Buffalo, however, I wouldn't recommend drinking straight from the source. Definitely a hard hike with a backpack but very well worth it.

Absolutely beautiful!!

Great short trail! LOVED the waterfall! Got a lot of close up pictures and the water was so clean and cold!

Great beginner trail. The area that follows the bluff/river line is very well maintained. Small portion of the trail was overgrown, we just bypassed. Kid friendly
