Spring Break 2017 Map

Easy walk, completely flat. It just rained so the river is flowing, there is currently no way to cross. I walked down trying to find a path but to no avail. The trail is in fact closed to access the other side, I would try again in a month or so.

It was pretty crowded but it was a Sunday. Lots of horses and mountain bikers.

Took the Extended Extended Route, really liked it.

Closer to Easy than Moderate, this loop offers a gorgeous view of the Los Angeles Basin on a clear day.

Moderate trail with good steep challenging inclines. Nice views.

Steep start and end with beautiful views. We saw no one else on the extended back loop, and kept our eyes out for wildlife. Saw birds, rabbits, deer, and seals at sea. Will do again!

Such a beautiful nature I love the area

Fun and a well groomed trail!

Nice trail with decent views. It has mostly recovered since the Rey fire came through two years ago. I imagine this would be a good place to see wildflowers in a couple months.

Beautiful late day walk with my dog- Topa! Couldn't keep out of the water. She had a blast!

very easy
good one for beginners

Awesome views and a nice day hike! You won’t be disappointed!

Easy (quick) escape to nature. Beautiful hike and drive

Love this trail for kids, out of towners

Great for the family. Nice picnic areas, and the actual trail is fairly easy with nice views. On the way to the trail, you can see the horses.

Make sure you grab the pamphlet on the way in.

Beginning is all uphill-burns the calves. Once you reach level ground the trail continues into the backcountry which is much less crowded and more serene. From the backcountry you’ll approach the peak from the rear-easier than initial assent, but still a solid climb. Views from the peak are great...ocean, mountains, etc. There is also a cool American flag at the top that makes for nice pics. Check out the adjacent state beach after your hike, or drive 10 mins south on PCH for a great lunch at Neptune’s Net restaurant.

I really enjoyed this hike. However, the grotto was actually hard for me to find! When you get to the bottom of the ravine, there’s a wide open shaded space. From here, it was unclear where to go. I tried two ways. To the right there is a small trail. I followed it for about a mile but it was overgrown by tall grass and seemed to never end. I circled back and went left from that open area. There are lots of rocks here. It didn’t seem clear that I was on a trail. Then suddenly there are large boulders. They can be challenging to climb but if you go up to right, you can more easily navigate down. Eventually you’ll see the grotto beneath you. To get to it, you have to go up to the right and scale more rocks. This then brings you back down to the ground level with the grotto! Woo! I got a little lost getting back out. Watch out for poison ivy!

This is not closed! Hiked yesterday. Beautiful and easy.

easy hike. great for quick trip to nature

Definitely MODERATE, not easy. Very pretty but lots of rocks so watch your step!!

Easy trail, not much views besides the small river. There's many interconnected trails. We did the loop in 1hr. They do have signs guiding you to other trails.

This loop was amazing, even on a cloudy day the views were awesome. Make sure to bring bug spray for the back side of the trails!!

Where the trail ends the real fun starts : boulder jumping and climbing, canyoneering....

Beautiful trail with lots of great places to stop and admire nature! I would rate it a "medium" instead of "easy" since it's mostly uphill/downhill. We will definitely be hiking here again!

Beautiful, short loop with scenic views of the surrounding canyons. We had a dog with us and it was great for her. It’s mostly single track with some steep downhill exposures. Some points are rocky but for the most part it’s smooth and well maintained. We did it clockwise. Towards the end of the loop, the trail becomes grassy two-track. Bees and butterflies everywhere right now. Watch for snakes, and horse traffic (and poop).

My group hiked this on 6/14. We began the trail from a turnout on a the highway instead of the circle x ranch entrance. We began around 12:30am and we made it to the grotto around 2:00am, the hike back was pretty fast. We made it back to our cars around 3:30am. This route added 1mile each way to the trail. SkyHighHikingGroup. We get together and hike at night. For all the busy bodys and late night owls. We are based in Los Angeles. Great hike, good workout. There was water in the grotto, hike was easy but the return did make most of us break a sweat. Recommend.

Mostly a bike trail
