Spring 2016 Map

on Black Rock Trail

The view from the top is worth the hike. Too many litterbugs leaving their trash around though.

Beautiful trail with great summit views. I wouldn’t call this a moderate hike but it definitely gets your heart rate up.

First the positives. There are some beautiful spots throughout this hike. I saw 3 different species of butterfly and all sorts of wild flowers, apple trees, and grapevine. There are places you can sit and enjoy nature's splendor. Most of the hike is clearly labeled. The negatives. Part of the hike is very rocky, trees are down and there isn't a clear path. I took my mother (who has some slight knee problems) and she had a hard time with this hike. Also unless your dog is an experienced hiker I wouldn't recommend this hike for them.

Very humid August day and rocks were a little slick. Short scrambles over low glacier ridges were a nice mix in, even having to lift the dog up onto some. Canopy covers well and there is minimal sun. If your into mushrooms....this is a good trail for you. The Orange circle trail on the way back cuts through some large boulders which kids would love.

Light walk with a beautiful field of flowers at the end of the trail as a surprise. There is a great change of landscape as you walk from the pond to the field. Great for beginners and folks with families

loved the views, liked the slight difficulty, cave was awesome, felt spirit of the leatherman

Incredible gem tucked away right next to the marina. Built and maintained by a local family, the space is full of beauty and positivity.

Nice easy walk for after work. Well maintained.

Good little trail. Not too busy but well blazed.

Beautiful and well-maintained! There are, as expected, mosquitoes in the pond area. The swans in the pond are lovely.

Hiked green rectangle off Dunk Rock, picked up Yellow, and looped back on Blue Rectangle. Beautiful New England forest, Yellow could have been marked better.

This place is perfect for dog walking/running. They really stress on keeping them on a leash. When it’s not as crowded and you have a dog that is trained on call back like mine, it’s five stars!!!

One of my favorite trails... Many trail choices for everybody's liking.

Steep from the trail head, but nice when you reach the trail. Well marked and maintained.

Super pretty and such an easy trail! One of our favorites

Great place to hike. Been a few years ago. I wanted to go back this summer but unfortunately it’s closed due to storm damage

Fantastic and so pretty! The trails are somewhat marked, but they can get a little confusing, especially since the map at the trail makes the trail seem a lot larger than it really is. But it is gorgeous, and a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Nice hike. No place to park and the entrance on the side of the road.

The trail is very undulating but for the most part very relaxing. Lots of foliage keeps you out of direct sun light.

really beautiful hike that isn’t too difficult but still a good workout. you’re above the tree line for a lot of it and there’s a good bit of scrambling which is always fun. go down the mattatuck (probably misspelled that) trail after you reach the top to get to the caves

Great hike! I took my kids (ages 11 & 9) up to the head in the fall. They were a little nervous in some spots, but it was worth the view from the top.

Views this time of years are a little bit obscured by the thick foliage but it was a good 2 hour, 2.5 mile workout. Close to home in Watertown - we really enjoyed it. On to the next trail on the list. Make the trip you’ll enjoy it

Great hike. Has a couple of challenging-ish parts. There are some beautiful views. It’s a nice relaxing hike that took about 3.5-4 hours. If in the area, I’d do it again.

Starts out quite steep from the road but then levels out. We parked a car in Sunrise Park in Suffield and kept going until we met a trail that led to the park. This part of the Metacomet seems quite busy on nice days.

This park has stunningly beautiful vistas and trails. It is not for the weak of heart if do the Blue Trail - it is crazy steep but you feel like you've accomplished something when you get to the top. If you stay on the outer edges for the whole park you will find pretty and quiet paths. towards the center of the park it's very well-traveled.

I live by the Avalon and it my go to trail when I want to hike on a whim. It’s got a lot to see at the opening of trail at the duck pond. Once you cross the street you get more trails. My dog loves it here and it’s very peaceful once deep in the trails.

Very nice hike. Like a walk in an enchanted Forest. Just be careful. I went counter clockwise. If you go this way you come to the back of a trail sign mid way through the loop. At that point the markers were highly visible so I went straight only to notice a mile later I was off the loop. I doubled back and realized I should have gone left at the trail sign where the marker was less visible.

Nice easy hike. Some light hills. Good for an afternoon walk/hike after work.

Great place for hiking
