HikingGreat!

Beautiful trail. I hike all the time so this was easy. I really enjoyed it! The poop has been cleaned up. I did the loop and clocked just over 3 miles. Love the river, butterflies, lizards, birds, great trees and rocks!

Hiking

From the 5 star rating I thought this might be one of the most beautiful trails in socal. But I'm giving it 3 as a warning to people venturing here. The trail was really sandy, hard to walk on, with zig zagging snake trails everywhere. There is a mess of brown, dead twisted up trees, vines, and brush piles everywhere, since water obviously washes through this canyon in storms, churning everything, twisting it up. There are oaks, but it's hard to appreciate them with all the brown decomposing stuff everywhere. You kind of felt like your evacuating from a disaster, walking past all this. There were an abundance of snake warning signs too, which was a reason I turned around 1/2 mile in. I usually never cut a hike short. Cars noise could be heard from the road, deep sand, along with a ton of horse poop everywhere. I did see some beautiful horses while on it. I can see how this would be a good trail for that purpose, with the huge parking area, also full of horse poop for your horse trailer. Maybe the trail got better, but I just was not feeling that safe, knowing there were that many snakes frequently the area. It has no cell service fyi, so if you wish to consult alltrails, or even find it on a map your out of luck down in this canyon. Lots of mugwort growing here this time of year if your looking for some, and oak trees are always beautiful with sun shining through. If you decide to go clockwise on trail from the lot, you must fjord a stream 1/4 mile in. I turned back on that section, since it was fairly deep water (knee deep), and full of algae. The counter clockwise route is the sandy one, which I turned back on 1/2 mile in. All in all I was there about 30 minutes. Hope this helps if you were thinking of checking this out, what to expect. Apparently snakes can bury themselves in sand, so I was shuffling as I walked. so they could feel the vibration, know I'm coming maybe. My hike before this was Santa Rosa Plateau, with its breathtaking Oak trees, a wide hard packed trail, and just spectaular beauty, at Sylvan Meadows. It's not far from here, so you might jusy pay the $3, and go there, for a beautiful hike under the oaks. Maybe I needed to back to this trail in the dead of winter after the rain, when the sand was packed down, it's cold, and less chance snakes are out/about, not a sunny afternoon. If I come back, that's when I will go. I just want to give an honest review, I was not that excited about this one, with all the fresh snakes tracks in the deep sand.

HikingGreat!

Really easy trail with a few spots that would be hard for kids, dogs or horses. The parking lot fills up pretty early and there are signs to not park on the street. Unfortunately there were a lot of dog poop bags. Other than that the creek was beautiful and it was nice and green

Delightful stream trail. Very crowded. Lots of dogs - and sadly lots of people who don’t pick up after their dogs.

Great weather for a hike. Got to the trailhead around 8:30, still open parking. Not a lot of people on our way in but a lot more people on our way out, some with dogs and some without. Went the full shot and did some detours....being in nature is always a great day.

Nice range of diversity along entire trail from riverside to oaks to rocky outcroppings to marshes. Mostly flat and easy except for one big hill. Nicely shaded and connects to other trails too. Beginning of trail is narrow so be careful since it's so crowded usually. Parking lot is small/medium, open 8:30am-4:30pm.

WalkingGreat!

my dog is old but she loves to walk so I took her on this walk. I'll tell you what there is a lot of steep hill areas and rocks and Gravel and yet she did it all jumped up rocks up the hill and and kept on going she even made it all the way back. the best part was when she saw the river she went and drank up all the water. 10 out of 10 would do again

The trail was great. Lots of foot traffic. Easy trail with a few spots of narrow rocky passages. The trail is out and back for most as there is a rocky climb down to continue on the trail about 2 miles in. Lots of tree covered areas on the trail made it very nice. Take a mask as there are a few (but almost hidden) signs asking you to wear a mask when passing others on the trail. Leashed dogs are welcome. Keep them close as we crossed paths with an adolescent coyote.

Hiked with my dog here. I recommend going on a weekday. I was here on Superbowl Sunday and it was very busy. I lucked out and nabbed the last parking spot. We saw a few coyotes, squirrels, & lizards. Nice breezy day and plenty of shade. Trail had a good variety of terrain and there are several off shoot trails to explore close to the river. Everyone was respectful of social distancing and all dogs well behaved. We only saw two horseback riders, but lots of horse poo. Parking lot is small, arrive at 8:00. Ladies bring tissue, no TP in porta potties.

We went early and parking was easy. Within the first mile following the river trail we spotted a heron, owl and some duck pairs. The shade was good and the traffic low early too. There is one tricky part with rocks to navigate early on but the rest of the trail was dirt and mostly wider. So nice to be on a trail where you stop hearing traffic and seeing houses. At this time of year with many of the leaves off the trees you also had frequent views of the river. The trail got busier on the way back and everyone was courteous though mask use while passing was intermittent. There were a couple very clean port a potties and hand sanitizer stations at the trail head too. Will go back to explore more of the loops.
