Great little out and back. Beautiful as leaves are starting to change. Water is low. Not much rain in SD lately. Yes, there are lots of stream crossings, but not bad since streams are not full. Go. Do. Take pictures, it’s gorgeous!

HikingGreat!

We almost didn't make the drive out to this one since it was an hour away from our hotel in Rapid City, but we were so glad we did! We parked at Sylvan Lake and took trail 9 out and 4 back. Both trails we good. It was crazy windy, and the clouds were looking pretty ominous, so we started hustling down 4. We got to enjoy the views, but it could have been better if the weather wasn't moving in. We had perfect timing though as it stated raining and even had a few snow flurries just as we got back to the parking lot. Made the 7.7 mile round trip in 3 hours and 4 minutes carrying my version of a full pack (two year old) and my wife with a day pack. The views were great and loved checking off the highest point in the US east of the Rockies!

Steady incline for 1st 2/3 out, with nice scenery among trees and boulders/rock walls.

There’s some steep hiking but the humbling views of the spires on the other side are worth. The view at the end is breathtaking

This has always been one of my top five hikes. It’s feels like you’re on another planet hiking through the spires, and there are some legit views of the Black Elk Peak range. But with it being in Custer State Park along Needles Highway, it’s usually too busy to enjoy fully.

8 miles, not a super hard hike overall, but climbing the rocks to the peak of Little Devil's Tower was a little too difficult for my father (68 yrs) due to bad knees. But super fun hike for the other 4 of us and our two dogs!

Fun trail up with great views! Challenging climb, and not scary coming down. Parking lot was full, but people were parking on the right side of road. We ended up bearing to the left, and caught Black Elk Peak trail over to Little Devils Tower. AMAZING geological area, fantastic views at top of LDT, have to climb up boulders, and the top is really high up! BEP is closed on top, and we heard LDT was the best anyway. Really loved it!!

Relatively easy trail. Hiked clockwise. Great weather, peekaboo views of Mt. Rushmore. The only negative is the frequent helicopter noise; but, hey, people need to make a living.

Nothing per se wrong with this mini hike, but crowded and political, as in close proximity, banner picture taking with a certain candidate. Plus side is you must wear a mask to get in the cafe—so that’s a lot less crowded.

We absolutely loved this hike. It’s definitely steep at some parts, but very doable. It was a little crowded, but the space is big enough to find your own secluded spot for lunch. Such pretty and unusual views. I would recommend.

This trail was well worth the day. We were unaware that the peak was closed but we got all the way to the top aside from a half a mile up. Kind of a bummer but the views at the top where amazing. We took Trail number 4 up and number 9 down; This was definitely the way to do it as number four had a lot more to see and much better views the number nine. Number nine was easy to come down and very quick.

Loved this trail! Got there at 8:15 am on a Monday, easy parking, and didn't meet anyone until we were at the top. The trail begins with only a slight incline, but then goes up quite steeply with fun rocks to navigate, but it is all very workable! Taking breaks (I'm 69, and used to lower altitudes) it took us 45 minutes up, 20 minutes to enjoy the beautiful summit, and 30 minutes down. Plenty room to step aside to allow others to pass, too. So beautiful!!
