Beautiful Mother’s day hike

No water at the waterfall but still a good hike! Very rocky, not meant to climb alone. Bring water! There’s no service on the trail.

If your going just to see the waterfall be warned there is no water right now.

A nice drive, with an emphasis on “drive”.

If you’re looking for a nice drive with okay scenery then look no further. On the contrary, if you’re hoping to off-road, there are offshoots (one of which is Holy Jim). Other than that, this is definitely an easy to moderate trail.

Great hike, not too difficult. Only one uphill stretch otherwise very straightforward.

no shade. nice view of the ocean.

Great hike. First 2.5 miles is along a dirt road with little to no shade. Not overwhelmingly exciting. When you get to around 3 miles in, the fun starts. Its hiking through thickish bush and concluding with a bit of light climbing uphill. In August the waterfall is more of a rockface, but it's a cool little area to relax nonetheless. I'd definitely do this one again

it was a fun hike but there were a lot of yellow jackets

It is a great trail but it’s definitely not for beginners. I’m a beginner so it was a terrible experience. I should’ve checked the difficulty first but I just trusted my husband. Get plenty of water if you’re planning to walk it. :)

To get to this trail hard you have to walk 2.5 miles down a fire road. It is flat and easy. Once hitting the trail head it is a 1 mike hike up to the falls. Mostly light bouldering. This is where it earns its rating.

great hike, shaded most of the time, beginning isn't as shaded. wear good hiking shoes lots of rocks. It definitely is a better hike when water is running but still a good workout.

Hiked to the Old Indian Village. A fun hike!

Great moderate hike, some of the inclines are a bit challenging but totally worth the views at the top. We took this counter clockwise and would definitely recommend doing the same so that you are rewarded with the breathtaking views at the end! Loved this hike and will be back for more in Crystal Cove!

Hard but super worth it.

Nice trail, has only one strenuous-ish ascend, the rest is pretty much easy/moderate. Saw a pack of coyotes who were scared off once we approached, lots of bunnies and birds. There were beautiful mountain views at the top and right before the descend (we went clock wise). Parking is $15 for the whole day but there’s a sunset rate from 5pm till sunset which is only $5. Saw a tow truck on the way back right before sunset, I guess they do enforce their parking policy. Definitely recommend and will come back.

Once you get into the creek, the hike is more challenging and much more interesting. The climb back into the falls is the toughest and most satisfying part! This hike isn't the easiest, so make sure you're ready for it, and take lots of water with you.

Is there a lake in the area?

Overall I enjoyed this trail and would do it again. I did this trail in the summer so there was no waterfall at the end but the place where it would be is still pretty cool. The trail is easy for most of the path and gets moderate towards the end. You follow along a paved/dirt road for probably 2 miles and then you find the trail head. From there you follow along a riverbed for about a mile and a half. The last 1/2 mile of trail is alot of bouldering with quite a bit of incline.

Bring lots of water, I brought 2 liters and ran out about a mile from the parking area.

We went to this trail at one of the hottest days in this summer. It is not an easy hike in the hot weather plus an exposed trail. However, an occasional ocean breeze is pleasant. We finished the 5 Miles within 2 hours! A nice Sunday work out!

This trail is awesome! I hiked it going down from Blue Jay Campground, and stayed on the northern sections which tended to be more shaded. The path is very easy to see and navigate by foot, and I could see a ton of mountain bike tracks in the more rutted areas. I made it all the way down to the hard turn in the clearings south of the Mary Thomas bridge before I turned around and headed back up since it was approaching sunset. I will say that it is much harder to go back up than come down, but not impossible. No climbing necessary. This was my first time ever on this trail, and had never heard of it before camping at Blue Jay, but now I want to go back and do the whole thing!

One thing I will critique though, is that the intersections in the trail are not very well marked. There are some white spray paint markings with arrows along the trail and at the intersection, but they're not in a very easy to understand format. So have your wits about you and make cairns or leave non-permanent markers to show you which way you came if you're doing a shuttle/in-n-out run.

Love this trail. Seems more on the moderate side. The only challenge is the last .7 of the trail, but it is fun. Also, there is a lot of uphill on the way back...way more than you realize. Good idea to take pics of the trail crossings...could get lost w/o them.

Love this trail but gotta go after a heavy rain to see the waterfall in all its glory...and it’s a long hike take plenty of water and good comfortable shoes a lot of climbing over rocks

Lovely trail not hard at all

Beautiful views of the ocean...beautiful 2 hour hike

Awesome hike if you don't mind climbing over and under rocks and fallen trees. I was really beautiful . You should go early in the morning because it gets really hot. The end was where the water fall is supposed to be. It was a very nice adventure and I do recommend.

took my wife and kids. our dog had fun fresh air great scenery

Long way on a paved road to the BOULDERS. Never seen such big ones! Fun climbing, jumping, slipping on our bottoms.
Missed the top, ran out of time. Will be back!

Amazing place

No waterfall in the summer when we went and the barren waterfall smelled like sulphur.

However, I will say that the bouldering was really fun and made up for the non-existent waterfall.
