My wife and I love this hike, I hiked it on my own today, i made it 3/4 of the way but turned back after hitting knee high snow (I gambled not taking snow shoes). So, fun winter hike, lots of running water, just bring your snow shoes and poles to get to see her

easy hike. super family friendly

Beautiful!

Recommended parking up top and hiking down. You'll get a good workout going back up.

Beautiful hike! You definitely need snow cleats and a pole, but no snow shoes required. This is a popular trail, so the snow on the trail has been compacted down. We started at 8am and only ran into one group of hikers at the top, but we passed plenty on the way down. I definitely think the snow makes this hike more beautiful! Great hike, even if you're new to winter hiking.

Amazing peaceful hike. Hiked Friday last week and was snowing heavily. Wore Yaktrax but some steep icy switchbacks near summit so lightweight spikes would have been better. Had to scramble a little and butt slide down parts. Park in Alpental Ski area then walk up road beyond the ‘No vehicles sign’ and the trail is on your right: look for steps.

Overall beautiful. Lots of water crossings so def need waterproof boots.

We did this hike on a Sunday morning (got to the trail head around 9 am) and had the place essentially to ourselves. There was no permit required since it's now wintertime, either. It was snow-free and not too muddy, either -- our dogs loved this trail and it was a beautiful way to start our morning.

Attempted this on the weekend. The access road is in very bad condition. Its about 4 miles of potholes and large rocks. I didn’t make it to the top and had to turn around. Perhaps I’m a big baby when it comes to rough roads, but this seems absurdly bad. Make sure your tires are full and you carry a spare tire before accessing. If you have a low vehicle, don’t go.

Hiked this trail today. Easy, well groomed, creek- side hike. Snow line was just above the falls allowing easy access to the base. The falls were raging while snow flurried. Some puddles and mud but easy to walk around. Light traffic.

I went there this morning December 1/2018. The the first mile was very easy and my micro spikes were enough. The snow got deeper so I used my snowshoes. It was the perfect day for it.

An easy hike with views of Snoqualmie Falls, the intensely powerful sight you've gotta see! Great for an afternoon out.

We went in late November and it was an amazing snowy hike! We went in the morning and had beautiful light piercing through the fog and trees. The first third had no snow, second third had some, and the final third was a bit icy. On the way down in the early afternoon the ice had thawed a bit so we didn't slip too much! Poles are good to have, and spikes would probably be even better. The lake was pristine!

A moderate hike with waterfalls, views of the valley, and a lake. We went in November and there was little snow. You'll have to go later in the season for consistent snow. It was very cold at the top though! And a bit slick...

An easy, short hike with a beautiful waterfall. We went during the fall rains and the waterfall was swollen and raging.

Went early yesterday and had the trail and lake largely to ourselves (passed three people on the way down).
Other reports are correct first third is snow free, second third is icy and final third was packed down snow (up to about 1-2feet). The icy section was difficult to traverse uphill and microspikes would have been helpful (we had poles), however on the way down the ice and snow did start to melt a bit.

The mileage is incorrect! It’s only 3.5miles each way, 7 miles in total. Took us just over two hours to get up, and less to get down.

Otherwise a gorgeous hike, starts in the forest, passes some waterfalls, snow covered mountains and ends in the lake that was completely frozen over for us. Super pretty at this time of year!

Hiked this trail about 10days ago. Largely clear of snow but icy parts around the top of the pass so microspikes or poles would be helpful. The lake was not frozen over when we visited but I suspect it will be soon.
Lovely scenery along the way with the waterfalls. Was perfect for a sunny November day.

Currently a gorgeous snowy hike! I arrived around 8:30 today (Sunday 11/25) to find 7 other cars in the lot. The road was fine, a few potholes, and the parking area was slushy/icy. Trail was in good shape and easy to follow, but I’d highly recommend spikes or poles. I did see people without (in sneakers or boots), but I was very glad to have my spikes - I wore them starting about 1.5 miles in/2700 ft elevation. It was very windy at the lake, so have extra layers! The lot was pretty full when I returned around noon. All in a great first truly snowy hike for me! Also, this is the only trail that my Fitbit clocked as shorter & lower elevation than AllTrails (eg alltrails said you arrive at lake at 4.4 miles, but I clocked 3.62), so don’t be scared off by the mileage!

Hiked the trail today under snowy conditions. Trails were covered in slush with areas of packed snow and puddles. We walked in hiking boots, Yaktrax would have been helpful in areas. We really enjoyed the trail there were lots of little waterfalls and overlooks along the way.

Besutiful short little hike, perfect if you don’t have enough time to do a longer hike!

Good hike, beautiful falls.

Beautiful falls. I'd recommend parking at the lower falls, then hiking up.

Very good views of the lake nestled amongst tree-lined peaks - well worth the hike. One of the rockier trails I’ve done, so sturdy soles are a must. It does get pretty slippery and icy close to the top. I had to bundle up as the wind picked up closer to the top, but then is cut off once you get through the switchbacks towards the lake. Overall, great hike!

This was our first hike in the PNW! We loved it! It was a little bit slippery at the top, thankfully we had read reviews and used microspikes, they made all the difference!
We really enjoyed it! and the view was amazing!

Trail was partially covered in snow. I would recommend wearing at least hiking shoes. We slipped a few times in our hikers. The first mile isn’t terrible. It’s mostly the second mile and the decent down to the lake that is pretty slick. Overall fun hike. Definitely moderate. Majority of the way up is incline. We caught the sunset on the way down around 4. Lots of potholes on the gravel road up but wasn’t too muddy today. Lot was full at 12.

Super crowded. But the spectacular view of the lake was worth putting up with the hordes of people.

Great hike, not too hard but a decent workout. Some snow and ice at the top once near Snow Lake right now, if you have crampons on poles it’s not a big deal. The scenery was great, temperature wasn’t too cold, and not overly busy, worth the time.

the scenery is gorgeous, the air smells like christmas candles as you climb. First 3/4 of the trail are easy slow climb, after that it turns into more intense switchbacks. Very snowy and slippery at the top, so wear appropriate footwear. If you have removable krampons or hiking poles I would suggest those for the top portion as I saw lots of people fall and almost fell myself a number of times. I even saw a lady with a sprained ankle being carried down by her husband. Bring lots of layers so that you can take off as you ascend and then put back on as you descend. This time of year when we got to the top at 2:10 the sun was already set on the lake so get an early start, aim to be at the top for noon. Amazing view, so worth it!
