HikingIcy

Trail was amazing. Views even better. Yes it does get icy after the bridge, but my boyfriend and I were able to make it without crampons. We are pretty athletic, so I’m sure that played a role. I definitely slipped on ice a couple times, but just have to be extremely careful on foot placement. Going up is easy even with ice - going down is a bit of a different story. Not impossible, but not as easy without the right equipment.

HikingMuddy

Hiked 1/26. Trail was a bit soggy from recent snow/ice melt. Trail would be exact All Trails listed mileage if you turn at the Cucumber sign/turn off. I went to the end, turned around, then took turn off and clocked in at 8.8 miles. Haven’t hiked in a few months, so I used this to work out some kinks in my muscles. You do cross the river which is high- which means fewer rocks to step on. Even with poles, one foot went in... to my calf. Waterproof shoes are not waterproof when submerged! Overall, good hike!

HikingGreat!

It’s a pretty easy hike. Good climb to consider a workout. Finished in an hour. The waterfall is beautiful. I went today (1/26) around 0900 and there was no ice, the ground was wet but not muddy. I saw 30 people, at most, throughout.

HikingGreat!IcySnow

This has been a goal of ours but it was always so busy in the summer. We arrived early Saturday morning 0630 and parked. Waited for the sun to come up and took off. Please wear spikes! It starts out with little ice but the higher you get the more ice and shear cliffs you encounter. We saw plenty with tennis shoes and one guy fell down a few steps and slid on ice almost to the edge of a cliff. It was a very somber moment for everyone witnessing it. I saw people with babies in backpacks with tennis shoes slipping and sliding and also dogs (not allowed) on the tight trails. Kids falling and crying. Please please please get proper equipment when your hiking in the mountains. Other than that. You will be rewarded with breathtaking beauty, a great workout (lots of stairs and elevation) and great pictures!

Great day to hike this trail. Wet & muddy but no ice. The creeks were roaring & the falls gorgeous after last night’s rain

This trail was a butt-kicker, but well worth it for the views at the top. Went in Late November of 2019, and it was cold but great vantage point at the top.

Nice diverse trail. The part along the river is easy and the rest is a little more challenging. The only thing I feel I need to stress is THE TRAIL IS 8 MILES according to my recording.

Very well Marked it gets steeper and steeper as you go .. first time to wear microspikes & they were well worth it , you can make it up without them but it’ll be a lot tougher and slower. Once you reach the Waterfall you’ve made it past the hard part .

Ice and mud and wind and rain. It was awesome. Spikes are strongly advised.

*This review is from July 5, 2020* Amazing hike! The big view isn’t until the very end but good scenery on the way up. Definitely worth it to get to the view - you won’t regret it!

Great weather, low gap is great at getting your blood pumping for the cold ridgeline miles.

Gorgeous! Dogs on a leash, so that’s a plus. Only 2 other small groups of people.

It was very icy! I fell a few times and one hiker slid all the way down a set of stairs, they weren't hurt though. I'd say this was my most dangerous hike yet. But I got to the top and back with what everyone reassured me were sandals :)

Wear spikes during the winter. You’ll thank yourself later. Turns a 9 hour hike slip n’ slide into a 4.5 stroll.

Muddy and icy. I wouldn't attempt without crampons. Walk a mile or so after the falls to see a fantastic view of the city. Unfortunately there was a moderate amount of litter earlier on in the trail.

Amazing views! A good bit of elevation but worth it. It was pretty icy and snow filled on 1/24/21. The water was running good and weather felt great. Pretty well traveled. Got to the trailhead at 9am and was the first on the trail.
