Amazing hike! Started around 7:30am and made it to the top around 10:30am, taking about a 20 minute break. It had rained the night before, so the weather on the way up was wonderful. Also starting early in the morning made it so the majority of the hike on the way up was all in the shade. There is also good shade coverage from trees the higher you climb. Definitely steep, especially near the top-you end up doing more bouldering than actual hiking. The view at the top is worth it! Ran most of the way back down, legs were very shaky at the bottom and stepping onto the road asphalt felt like walking on a soft cushion after the trail running. Didn’t drink as much water as I thought -not quite 2L and I still felt very hydrated. Definitely a hike to check off your list!

longest .7 of my life...

great view from top. so close to reach from town.

great hike a little difficult for a beginner like me had to stop quite a bit to catch my breath and i also forgot the bug spray if you hike this Trail you're definitely going to need bug spray for all the mosquitoes... But once we reach the lake it was all worth it so beautiful up there

Good option for a challenging hike that doesn't require a drive up a canyon. I clocked about 3,000 ft. elevation gain and 8 miles round trip using Strava, and that was going past what is described as the little black mountain peak to almost the end of the bigger peak, so I'm not sure how why the stats on this say 11.5 miles and 4685 ft. Took me nearly 4 hours total with about 10 minutes at the top, stopping to take pictures and breathe a lot in the second half. The steep section is definitely a doozy, but luckily the majority of the trail is moderate. Great sunset views coming down in the evening, and it is awesome to be able to see so far in any direction! As far as wildlife goes, I did see some deer at the top and there were plenty of crickets to disturb along the path.

Gorgeous water, beautiful wildflowers!

I absolutely loved this trail. It’s definitely not an easy hike as you gain over 1,000ft in elevation each mile but it is so worth the effort. You will hike beside a river speckled with waterfalls, through aspen groves, and into gorgeous meadows.
My GPS tracker a little over 6.5 miles rt but I did some exploring at the top.
Keep your eye out for moose. I saw a few as well as a few groups of deer.
I got on the trail by 7am and had zero issues with sun or temperature as more than the majority of the hike was covered by shade. I hiked on a Tuesday and only saw one other hiker on the trail. Had the final meadow to myself for over an hour. Complete solitude.
I can’t wait to come back in the fall when the aspens are changing.

Decided to go for a hike as it was my first full day in Utah. Just know there are three parking lots that all lead to these falls so remember the way you went up/need to go down- I spent 30 minutes walking around trying to find my car. The hike up was beautiful, difficult at times and flat at times. At the end, the last .7 miles are extremely tough but then you’re rewarded with the waterfall. Highly recommend.

Awesome hike. Great views and enough of a challenge to keep the heart rate up. Hiked up at a pretty good pace (but stopped to take pics a few times) and took about 50 mins to get to the falls. Ran back down at a moderately fast pace and it took a little less than half the time it took to get up. Map estimate of distance is right on - my gps said 4.45 miles for the out and back.

We hit the trail around 8:45am and saw a smattering of people now and then. This has lovely views on the climb, with lots of wild flowers and the lake is peaceful when loud talking people are not there. Why do people talk so loud? On the way down we stopped at Dog Lake which is small and more peaceful. We spotted a moose couple near the end of the hike which made our day; we couldn't miss them they crossed the trail.

They say it's hard. How hard can it be, you think? They're not lying - it's HARD. To the saddle it gets hard-steep but not hard-technical about 2.5 mi in, where for the next 0.6 mi you climb 1,000 ft and it's RELENTLESS. You go up rocks (imagine the rocks in a mountain stream) rather than a dirt trail. It definitely gets your heart rate up and your legs wobbly. It would be ok up to the saddle with a kid but challenging: a lot of times you have to step up higher than adult-knee high so for a kid it would be very tiring.
Once you get to the saddle, the way up to the summit is 500 ft up in 0.4 miles, and very technical. I would think twice about taking a kid there, or even someone who is not very sure-footed or who is scared of heights. Look in the photos for a picture by Christine Cote that looks straight up: that's the way you're going. You really have to look for footholds at every step. Going down is equally challenging.

Once you get to the summit though, you're on top of the world. No picture can do justice to the view there. You just don't want to leave.

Note that mid-August the streams were dry; no point in bringing a filter. Just bring plenty of water; I went through 2 L and ran out with about 1.5 mile to go.

1:56 ascent not stopping and at a solid pace, 1:36 descent jogging at times.

This is such an easy hike. Even though it’s short the payoff is incredible. If you need a short break from...anything...this is an excellent option.

I wish we had gotten to the trail earlier in the morning! It was about 10am when we started, and the sun really beats down on the first section, making 67 degrees feel like 85. Plus, there were quite a few people on the trail. But the trail is beautiful and Lake Mary is gorgeous. And since it’s so big and many hikers continue to Lake Martha and Lake Catherine, it felt like we had the place to ourselves. I know people love Cecret Lake at the top of Lil’ Cottonwood Canyon (I do in too when the wildflowers are in full bloom), but this lake it WAY prettier. Can’t wait to go back and do Martha and Catherine too next time! My kids (15,12,10,8) enjoyed this one too, though they didn’t like all the people on the trail. I can’t figure out where they got their disdain for crowds...oh, wait...

We saw a moose! We also saw deer, pika, and chipmunks. When you get to the lake head left and go over the boulder and then head away from lake. There is another hidden lake and that’s where the moose are.

Has always been my most favorite hike! It’s definitely a challenge but well worth it! It’s very steep about half way up, which makes it almost harder to come down! Make sure you have good griped shoes and PLENY of water! Definitely depending on the time of year you do it of course! I did it for the last time last year 8months pregnant and then again this year for the first time 8months out! LOVE IT!

My 2nd Summit! Amazing experience. Took me several attempts, but this Mountain helped prep me for much more to come … ! :-) _/|\_

Loved this hike! The trail is a bit steep at the beginning, then ascends at a pretty mellow pace for the majority of the hike. Just before the false summit, it picks up again but not for too long.
Wildflowers are beautiful this time of year, but the trail is a touch overgrown so be careful if you’re allergic to bees, they hang out pretty close to you. We didn’t have an issue with them at all.

The hike for me(18 years old) took 5 hours from parking lot to parking lot. absolutely breathtaking view and really feels accomplishing! Easy trail to follow. Make sure you write something and put in the mailbox at the peak!

Great trail!
Lake is a great stop for photos.
Saw one rattlesnake.
