So I did this hike today (OCT 14th) with my wife. It was snowing when we pulled up to the lot but we decided to trek on anyway. The views were beautiful. We saw a total of 6 deer (although two of them may have been the same ones just several hours apart). We also saw a moose. The going got tough towards the top because the last mile or so is about .6 mile elevation. Investing in some spikes for the shoes is probably a great idea. Some gaiters are probably not a bad idea but hiking poles definitely help to probe the snow. The lake was frozen and it was gorgeous. I forgot my sunglasses so when the sun came out the snow kinda hurt my eyes! Some hikers that were there before us said the route up to Pfeiferhorn was too tough because the snow was too deep. Overall great trail. Easy to follow.

First time on this trail and it definitely does not disappoint. A little more difficult than I wanted due to my son and I packing out camping gear as well, but had a great time and will do it again.

My friend and I hiked this trail after work. It was muddy and I slipped twice, but that was my fault. It was cold and snowy but it’s a beautiful trail and a beautiful lookout.

Love this hike. Pretty easy and great views. Good beginner hike for any season.

Really good view, really steep. Good warm up for upper bells reservoir in my opinion. West slabs scramble is a lot more adventurous, but couldn’t find anywhere to rate.

This isn’t too bad. Only hard for about a mile. If you do this hike though, you might as well go one more mile to pfeiferhorn in my opinion though. :)

Love this hike. Super quick, only hard for about a mile tops. Gives you lots of time to chill there. Done this so many times can’t count. Ha

Fun, uncrowned trail. Lots of sunshine- very exposed, but always breezy to windy. Pretty views. Lots of rock, so watch your footing and make sure you have the right shoes.

Suuuper steep but 100% worth the view. One of my favorite hikes of all time.

Great time of year to go. Wild temp change from sweating hot to super cold towards summit. Definitely exhausted at the end but totally worth it. Didn’t actually need that much water. 1 liter this time of year was good for me. Friend took the wrong path near top so be sure to stick to the trail. You reached the top when you find the black mailbox.

Its snow time and its kind of moderate..Half of the trail covered with light snow, cold at the lake. Moose sightings and fall leaves make this trail awesome!!

We went to perfect timing with fall leaves and weather. At the top (waterfall) , it can get cold so we were glad we had a good jacket (next time I will bring gloves for my kids hand). Good thing we had a friend who knew exactly where to find the location, it can get little tricky off HWY 89. We started to hike around 3:30pm and were able to catch the sunset by 7pm. It is dog friendly but little kids may need help to go all the way. Even if you don’t go all the way, it is fun to bring family there. I was told every season this hike is different. Probably not in mid summer where it can get really hot (unless hiking in the early morning). Can’t wait to return back again.

I love the view from top, totally worth the steep parts. Don’t forget your head lamp, or flash light if waiting for sunset.

Moderate to strenuous hike. Shaded the whole way. Nice fall colors. Good destination.

Such a beautiful hike! The last stretch is just as they say: steep and rocky. But the hike is worth it.

真的很棒,最后一段的攀爬那简直就是精华。很累,费腿。
值得一去,但是强度不小。

Did this hike yesterday and it was so worth it to see the view at the top! It’s defiently a harder hike with a steady incline. On Sunday not many were using the trail and it was cloudy so it was a great day to go. Only thing was you start getting into some steepness and straight rock climbing the last little bit. It was also crazy windy so just prepare for it. I’m sore now but I will do it again!

Love this hike! And so close to downtown Salt Lake City! Very moderate on hills and a beautiful view. I’ve done it a few times and would do it again!

The last few reviews were very accurate. Highly recommend this hike.

Real steep but doable. There is some scrambling near the end on some pretty exposed rock. Take your time on this one, the views are worth the hike.

An amazing trail that offers good rugged uphill trekking.
Bring your hiking poles they will make your life much easier on this one.
Allow yourself extra time for a picnic by the lake.
A beautiful glacier fed lake awaits you.
Wildlife sightings are common, I wore hiking boots for extra ankle support for climbing on rocks.
You can’t go wrong up here on Red Pine or White Pine Lake. Enjoy!

A great trail with scenic views! Pretty tough trail with constant uphill. Worth it though.

pretty challenging, but accessible trail. Beautiful on the way up, even more so at the top. as far as wildlife, got to see a tarantula on the way down.

For me, this was a difficult trail. Not necessarily because of the length or climb, but because of the trail surface. Most of this trail, I estimate 60-70%, is extremely rocky. The footing is slippery and treacherous. There is a base of 2 to 3 inches of fine pea gravel. Sometimes you're walking on that and it's like walking on the beach. Other times there is a layer of softball to football sized rocks on top of the pea gravel. You can turn an ankle if you're not careful. Frankly, I got sick of it. It was extremely slow going because of this.

The trail is a steady uphill to the top and then the last half-mile or so the grade increases. Then the trail ends at the base of the cliff and you have to scramble about 100 feet or so up and over the rocks on a grade that is about a 60 degree angle. For me it was a notch or two short of needing a rope. It's pretty dangerous.

But the views are great, it's a very pretty canyon. I saw no other hikers, but about half way down three motorized mountain bikers came up. There was a dead animal carcass about two thirds of the way up where the creek joins the trail. It looks like it's been dead there a week or two. I couldn't tell what it was.

At the very top there were animal tracks. Whatever has three toes and is hooved. I assume a mountain goat but I never saw anything.

This trail was amazing. We loved the section of white birch trees in the fall it’s beautiful!! This trail offered a number of different sceneries all beautiful in there own way. All uphill and downhill with a few little breaks in between! Overall awesome trail!!

Saw 4 moose and a coyote. There was a bull moose and cow with calf right at the start of the trail by the parking lot and a 4th on the trail. The colors are amazing right now and the view at the top was beautiful.

one of my first hikes in Salt Lake City, Utah. There is no shade as such along the entire hike trail. But the view at the top of the trek is really breathtaking. Moderate level of difficulty and can be hiked with pets.
