west climb up was fairly dry with more rock and steps. east side coming down lots of ice at top and mud on most of trail. microspikes were perfect again made life easy. lots of people on east side slipping in non hiking footwear. beautiful views of boulder. nice and different angle to view the flatirons.

Challenging climb going up but great hike. Pretty icy at the beginning of the descent on the east side and then very muddy for a bit until the trail leveled out and got more dry. Just wore hiking boots and we were fine. Had our dog and there were lots of other friendly dogs.

Great workout. Hiked trail on 1/19. Pretty muddy because of melting snow. A few spots where yaktrax would have been useful but not necessary.

Pretty slick and snowy, but well worth it.

This has been rebuilt and much steeper than before!!! Trail is going from rock step to rock step and kinda like doing high hurdles... lifting each foot up high but worth it

Great first hike of 2019! I really recommend microspikes as it is slick and icy.

Nice little Sunday hike. View at the top is incredible. Justin dropped his phone in a crevice but I saved the day with a long stick. Superb hike for when you want to sweat a little but not die completely.

Did this trail last weekend up to Sanitas and took Sanitas trail down. Snow packed for a good amount with a thin layer of snow. Going down Sanitas was much trickier with ice. Beautiful way to climb Sanitas.

This is a great hike - easy to get to (which account for the amount of traffic it gets), nicely paced circuit and great views throughout. I went clockwise (up west, down east) which probably was a mistake given the conditions at this point. The west side has a small bit of mud and ice and patches of snow but overall was quite dry. The east side was pretty snowy and icy at the top, and then mud at mid-elevation, and then conditions improved towards the bottom. So it might have been better to ascend on the east side and go down the west side. I had hiking boots on it which were fine, no need for microspikes. Lots of people had dogs but they were all well-behaved and friendly.

Pretty but super icy and muddy! 01/17/2019.

This is a great, easy hike. Very beautiful!

It was snowing when I did this trail last week, but still completely doable. I didn't want to snowshoe or struggle to get to a trail head, but still wanted nice views. This hike checked all the boxes. I wore spikes, but you could easily do the trail without them. Even in the snow, I passed several other hikers. I imagine it's a very busy trail when the weather is better.

Very icy near the top. A bit of a scramble too, most dogs wont make it the last .4

Did this hike on 1/11/19 after 6 inches of fresh snow (and still snowing) that morning. It was beautiful in the trees with all the snow. Can’t comment on the views because it was cloudy and snowing hard. Incline was tough with all the fresh snow, would recommend spikes!!

Did this hike on 1/15/2019 in the late afternoon. Still completely snow covered from 1/11 snowfall. We did not have spikes/yaktrax and still completed this hike with our dog with relative ease. Rather slick on the packed snow in places but overall made it up okay. Difficulty is moderate I would say especially with the packed snow. At the top there is rock scrambles to get to the views but it was worth it. Beautiful short hike with the snow cover. Good views at the top after the rock scramble.

Rangers recommmended that I did not go up the royal arch without micro spikes! Flat irons loop was icy and snowy as it is!

Icy and snowy on trails! Need micro spikes or at the very least hiking shoes!

Hiked 1/12/2019. Lots of snow, microspikes are helpful. Trail is easy to find. Started at 8:30am, only passed a few people coming up, but trail was busy on our descent.

Great hike and definitely doable and safe for children. I did see the same pit bull the lady below complained about today. It was super friendly and gentle. Unlike her I didn’t see a single pile of poop so not sure if she was looking in the trash or what lol.

Extremely unsafe trail to bring younger children due to lack of enforcement of off leash dog rules. There are literally hundreds of piles of dog excrement within a few short miles.
I can no longer bring my nephew here after we were rushed by an off leash pit bull. Of course the owner thought it was funny. Dog owners in Boulder County are the most entitled and ignorant bunch of people you will ever encounter.

Love this trail. Great length and amazing views. Fenced dog park perfect for wearing out your pup at the end of the trail. Typically do this trail/visit the dog park 1-2 a week.

a challenging hike especially if you’re not used to the elevation. Incline right away and pretty much the whole time, but definitely worth it.

Definetly the hardest hike I’ve been on, bring lots of water and a small snack. If you’re from the Midwest like myself be prepared for the elevation difference, lots of yawns.

I accidentally ended up on this trail after starting the flatirons loop and losing my way, and I'm so glad I did! The trail was definitely a bit challenging, by the time I was near the top I was asking people coming down how far it was. The incline is pretty steep for the first majority of the hike, but as you near the end the trail dips back down a bit before heading up, which gives those muscles a break for the last stretch. There are some sketchy climbs on big rocks, but I'm a very cautious hiker and it was nothing I couldn't handle. The view from the top is BREATHTAKING, not to mention the arch itself is of course cool (though I'm from Utah, so I have high standards when it comes to arches). My only big issue was portions of the trail with a certain amount of mud and snow; which of course I kind of signed myself up for by hiking in January. I would recommend this hike to anyone who likes a challenge, pretty trails surrounded by trees, and great views.

We saw 20-30 other groups out on this trail during our 3 hour hike today. Gorgeous views. No snow on the trail, but icy in spots as was mentioned a few days ago.

I hiked this with a group in the fall. Outstanding hike and view at the arch. Hoping to trail run up to the "false summit" in the near future.

A nice way to spend a couple hours in the afternoon. The dog loved it. Crampons not needed unless you intend to see the cave but otherwise it was fine with just my old hikers.

We went on a sunny day four days after the snow. We could see snow had been melted in most the places. Trail was muddy in some places. Lot of houses are there nearby! Restroom was clean.
