Short Hikes Map

It took me about 50 minutes to hike up to the summit, I’m not a hiker but I’m a healthy and active person. I went slow but I only stopped a few times for less than a minute each to take pictures and catch my breath. Some parts of the trail were rocky and steep and a little slippery. I started around 7:20am and saw only one couple with their dogs ahead of me. I had the summit all to myself for a few minutes and the view was very nice, although the view from the Buck Springs Gap overlook near the trail entrance was much more spectacular than the one at the summit.

Beautiful but heavily trafficked

The views awaiting you at the top are spectacular!!

The trail is in terrible shape from floods and mudslides. We got halfway through and with the trees down it became impassible. Hopefully they can come in to clean this trail up for others to enjoy. Our little boy liked getting to play in the creek since we didn’t get to see the waterfall.

A short but gorgeous hike. Most if it is uphill and very slippery so shoes with good grip are a necessity. The fall at the very top has a great swimming hole with gorgeous clean mountain water. 10/10

Well worth the short hike to the overlook. We stayed and just enjoyed the solitude and watched as the Falcons flew on the wind currents.we were actually there on August 31 but just now posting.

Wife and I enjoyed the hike. Saw a few people stop at the false summit. So be mindful of it as you will have to cross water. So wear boots, or water shoes!!

Dogs had fun hiking although there were a few not so friendly pups on the trail. Happy we decided to do this easy trail.

Awesome views! Trail was easy and beautiful.

Love it! We’ve been going for years and the views never get old

nice. very busy on Sunday afternoon.

Good little hike. We had three kids 3,10 and 12 all did great. Loved the falls at end and sitting on the big rocks. Overall good hike.

What a lovely place, a leisurely walk round trip about 2 miles, an easy trail with access to the river, bridges and at the end an incredible tall waterfall.

Easy, lush, short hike to the falls which is actually more stunning than I had anticipated. Lots of pretty water spots along the way. Beautiful blue butterflies right now. Saw lots of kiddos on this hike too. Very short drive off the I-40. Definitely worth it!

One of my favorite trails in Asheville. The upper falls is a blast but do not go if it had been raining because the last bit of the trail gets very slippery. Lower falls is fun and the upper falls is a great extra challenge!

Beautiful views from a number of lookouts and cliffs, wildflowers all along the way in August/early September. Great for dogs on a leash, kids of all ages, only about an hour roundtrip unless you stop for lots of photos or a picnic (both of which are highly recommended).

Great hike. Got started at PL at 0900 and up we went! Still wet from thick fog. Took our time and made it to top in 30 minutes. Too foggy to see much but still a great short hike. A definite recommend. Watch rocks they are slippery. Paved all but last few hundred feet.

Gorgeous views. Seems as though it gets more crowded each time we go. I recommend going early during the week :-)

Great hike! If you’re looking for a good workout with views as your payoff in the end, this will deliver. I also agree with other reviews - advisable for people who are already physically fit and I don’t recommend bringing a dog, even though they’re allowed. I rate this in the “difficult” spectrum.

Great trail and you can even climb to the top of the falls

When you get to the trailhead, do not walk towards the creek, the actual trail is up to your left. Follow the red blazes. When it splits go right, across the creek. Two creek crossings.

Trail is in bad shape in a few places but mostly it’s flat and fairly moderate hike in. My old dog did okay, had to pick him up in a few places.

Waterfall is beautiful.

Great Short Hike! It was uphill most of the way, but the view was worth it!

Glen Falls is one of the most popular hikes near Highlands. For that reason, I’d say to avoid it if you are one that looks to avoid crowds. The falls are beautiful, but the sheer amount of people and dogs takes away from the enjoyment. If you go past the railing at the bottom and continue down the ‘trail’ it will put you out at the very bottom of the falls, which is a nice treat.

This hike is more than moderate for a 72 year old! First mistake was eating breakfast at The Pisgah Inn and then immediately going on a hike we've done at least four other times. We hear of hikers doing this assent in 20 to 30 minutes but we would have died on the trail trying to do it in less than an hour! So we took it slow and caught our breath probably six times but enjoyed the scenery along the way, which a speedy run wouldn't allow.
the trail overall, is well maintained and enhanced by the platform at the top. the views are spectacular even with a tower. The descent always goes easier but caution is the word for the day as one slip and your career is over as far as hiking goes. Recommend trekking poles to steady your climb and return. I believe the rating as most have given this trail, of moderate, is based upon ones age, weight, and attitude. personally I'd rate it "Difficult". See you at the trailhead!

This hike is by no means difficult, it’s a short trek to an old radio tower with beautiful 360 views. You can climb the tower about 4 stories and get some awesome photos. Worth a short mile hike, nothing strenuous.

Directions are a little misleading. Once you turn on to Big Hungry Rd., you cross one bridge before you get to the trail head. You also about 4 miles before you get to the trail head. The trail itself is fantastic and the narrows are beautiful. If you go in a Saturday there will probably be kayakers running the rapids. Hike a little ways up river and you get some excellent views of rapids and small waterfalls.

Easy in and out. My dog loves the stream crossings.

fantastic hike to a gorgeous waterfall...the hike in is a breeze because you go down hill most of the trail so coming out is a workout

Great for dogs!!

Nice trail. Had some hard places to hike up for sure. Yes you do have to cross over a small river. Unless you can navigate rocks really well, you will have to take off your shoes to walk through or have water proof shoes on. Hearing the running water along the way was nice.
