Good hike, went clockwise, meaning the best views were in the first third of the hike. You can add a couple miles by going a little farther up to Skyline Drive. The "waterfall" was a bit disappointing but the overall hike was great. I saw a mama bear and two cubs along the trail which made the hike extra interesting. Only one really good view along the hike but was worth the hike. The climb is very smooth and not too taxing.

Starting at the trailhead, go right— this path will put you on the AT and it is a much smoother climb to the summit. If you loop it this way, it’s just short of 3 miles around.

Summit has great views around the valley. A little crowded on the weekend but not too terrible.

Well worth the hike. Will do it again when the weather is warmer.

SPECTACULAR trail. Fun, challenging (but not too much) and good to warm you up in the winter. Beautiful views, good climbing, and so much fun. A must do!

Would love to go back during sunset or sunrise. Great views and quiet this time of year.

A really short hike with great views and a cool scramble.

Gorgeous view of the Shenandoah Valley!!! We did it carrying a 25lbs backpack on a 30 degree weather and made it all the way to the “v” point and had a little picnic right on the top with a 360 degree view. Ready for our next trail adventure!

Good trail, but the actual length is closer to 10 miles. We hiked counter clockwise, which put the biggest waterfall near the end of the hike. The trail is easy to follow, but the markings are confusing.

nice views but gps threw me off and only got to AT post and turned around.. I would have kept going now that I know it was the right way..

This is a nice trail with a short scramble. The second time I did it, I hung out at the scramble did some bouldering. It is a very busy trail on nice days in the afternoon.

Loved doing this loop today! Was able to do the summit of both Stony Man and Little Stony Man in one go. Was a bit muddy and there were parts of the trail covered in ice so be mindful if you’re going during the colder months.

Great little hike. We went in October and saw a large deer with huge antlers. The views are beautiful!

Relatively easy trail. Short hike which you could do in the afternoon, even in the winter. Beautiful views at the summit. To the right you get to see Old Rag Mountain, which was awesome!

My favorite trail at Shenandoah.

The falls were awesome! Still a good amount of ice on them so that was cool. The way down is easy. Going back up is a little rougher, but not bad at all. This should be rated moderate, not hard. I only saw a few people on the way back up. Not crowded at all on a Monday morning.

Lots of ice on the trail but gorgeous.

No fishing spot but a fun hike

Gorgeous! If you are in this area and you do not check this site out, then you’ve missed out!

Great trail. Hiked two weeks ago with 4 inches of snow on the ground. Will hike again in the Spring.

Phenomenal view at summit. Kid-friendly trail with shallow gradient.

This is a really nice hike because it is not too difficult and has a little bit of everything - several river crossings and water fall areas as well as a few great views. Most of the trail is thin and goes through a tunnel of woods. Its very rocky and very slippery when the leaves are down. We went counter-clockwise. Many trails connect with this one and the blazes switch from blue to yellow and then back to blue. It’s a little confusing, but with the app it’s fine. I look forward to checking it out in the spring.

Great hike, but I visited in late fall when the leaves were off the trees and the water levels were low. The falls were impressive but definitely need to see them at high water level or when it's frozen this winter.

The hike clocked in at 9 miles according to my friends gps watch. We took the counterclockwise route which was a gradual to somewhat strenuously uphill hike for the first third, maybe the second third spent on the ridge line walking somewhat level, then a steep decline over the last 1/3 of the route.

It is worth doing nice trail

I started to the left but when I got to the bottom of the trail I turned around and went back up the way I came down. It shortened the hike to 3.2 miles but I got to see the river from a different angle and it was a good workout. I figure I'll never be back since there are so many other trails I want to explore in VA. Finished in 1:45 with quick stops for pics and to let my dog wade.
Didn't see anyone else on the trail.

Great hike. Started snowing last weekend on the hike!

Awesome hike but be aware there is significant rock scramble! Not a good hike for people who are not very mobile!

A fine hike, quite easy besides the steep return. I am more interested in the big views and after seeing ricketts glen waterfalls this hike was average in comparison.

Beautiful hike. We did the loop CCW from Thompson Hollow Rd. Densely wooded, scenic streams, historic stone walls, and amazing waterfalls. Climbs for most of first half. Very rocky near waterfalls. Well marked and maintained.

Followed the advice of going to the left and coming up the fire road at the end. Beautiful trail with the fall colors, not too crowded except at the main waterfall. Was pleased to watch fellow fisherman trying their luck in the small pools of water along the trails in search of native trout.

Lots of great waterfalls (November with a fair bit of rain recently). What a lovely hike. Clockwise is preferred!

Hiked the trail clockwise as suggested and we enjoyed it. Did start to run into ice though on the second half as we made our way back up the path. The trail has you follow the water which was nice.
