We do this trail at least once a month.

Simply Beautiful. Don’t miss it

Completed this trail along with the named loop. Hiked a total of 3.5 miles.

Logged 3.5 miles from the Upper to the Lower Parking areas. Very nice views along this loop. The Appalachian Trail was very icy in spots.

Logged 5.5 miles on this hike which included hiking to the top of Dark Hollow Falls and exploring around the Rose River Falls. Nice little loop!

Awesome rock scramble

Not too long, not too short. Has equal amount ease and steepness to challenge you!

Nice hike with a moderate inclines.

This is an amazing trail for the entire family. It is labeled easy, but I’d call it moderate for children or out of shape individuals. The trail leads to an unbelievable view and some cool features. Definitely a must for the family or for anyone that wants to hike but isn’t prepared to go very far in. Bring some lunch, and enjoy the views while you dine :)
*Not stroller or wheelchair friendly :(

Super easy hike, amazing views but super crowded at the top (even in 22 degree weather!). We had our two dogs with us and we passed lots of other dogs on the way, so make sure your furry friends are well behaved!

Hiked on Thanksgiving. Following the cascading Rose River might be one of my favorite hikes ever!

good hike and sweet views of waterfalls, but not great distant scenic type views..also very busy. but you can swim in the waterfalls and jump off a few rocks into the water. I recommend it once but I wouldn't come back without doing the cedar run loop too

Excellent, a little icy on this Thanksgiving Day, poles will help.

rock scrambling is the best.

Don’t let the short distance fool you, this trail is great! The rock scramble at the top is pretty awesome and the views are just spectacular! A great place to watch the sun go down!

We really enjoyed this hike! The falls were really pretty and there were lots of rocky areas at the base to sit down and have a picnic. It came a pretty decent rain storm while we were on this trail, but the forest was thick enough that we didn't really get wet.

Really beautiful trail with wooded areas, waterfalls, and streams. Somewhat protected from the wind so a little less cold than the more exposed summit hikes. This is a great option to mix it up a bit. We were there two days after it rained and there were a few slick spots but it was very manageable overall. It’s closer to 5 miles when you include the fire road (which you need to use if you are doing the full loop), and there’s an interesting old cemetery near the start as well.

Good, moderate trail. Wide pathways with small, loose rocks. Go early in the morning (before 9am) to avoid crowds. The views at the top are nothing short of stunning. Can get windy though, so be careful. Would do this again. Took some smaller, offshoot trails for even more views.

Fun trail with beautiful views! I recommend getting to the summit just before sunset to view massanutten in it's blueish silhouette glory.

Nice hike to do with my dog and teens on veterans day. We saw a bear driving in the park but not on the trail. The incline seems to be about 2/3 of the way in on clockwise. It was nice to go that route and get the scenic view of the valley/Front Royal.

A little steep at times, but totally worth it! The view and the wind take your breath away! Beautiful leisurely hike back downhill to the car. Highest point in the park!

Good hike moderate difficulty. Cold morning. Icicles at falls. Beautiful!

My Husband and did this hike yesterday. Though you can hike under a mile to the summit, we decided to do the loop. Which I’m glad we did...it allowed us to be away from people and to absorb nature. I’m happy I used AllTrails because the trail/tree markings weren’t the best and we went off the loop trail a few times. (Another adventure so we didn’t mind). The trail was rocky but it was a lot of fun. There are different lookouts in the the loop trail that were intimate and quiet. When we hiked to the first lookout (lower rock lookout) a bunch of people emerged from the opposite direction. They ran in front of us and started posing for pictures. The top rocky view (not summit) was the best lookout of the entire hike. It’s priceless and you won’t regret it. Very rocky though. The summit view wasn’t my favorite of this hike. The touristy “hikers” ruined some of natural components of the view by taking countless Instagram pics. Definitely a great hike, suggest hiking it week days to avoid rude people and to hike the loop to enjoy some downtime with nature.

Great trail!! Loved the waterfalls!! Great idea to do trail clockwise!!! Easy wide path at the end then! Entire loop was more than 3.5 though!! Total was more like 5 miles if you count Rose River Trail loop and Rose river fire road.... you have to get back where you started for a total of about 5 miles. We just started out later and sunset came earlier so ended up finishing and it was dark. Trail was five stars though! Beautiful views!

Fun hike. got turned around and ended up turning left and hitting skyline drive instead of looping back to the visitor center (oops) so we added an extra 2 miles. otherwise, it was a fun walk in the woods..not too terribly steep. saw bears on the way back from the trail but not on the trail itself.

This is probably my favorite trail in the entire park. This is like a giant playground. It feels exposed and if you are afraid of heights, this probably is one to stay away from ...but the views are amazing and worth it. It is a pretty easy hike and the payoff for the view is well worth the scramble. NO DOGS allowed on the trail for obvious reasons ...I don't want someone hurting their fur baby trying to get them up to the summit for a pic, there are plenty of other places for that in the park..

Loved this hike. Lots of water over the falls due to the recent rain. This is a great hike if you want to do an overnight in the back country. There is some flat ground near where the Doyles Stream and James Stream meet. If you like to fish...bring your fly rod and license. This is a harvest stream over 9". I saw several trout in the deep pools that were close to the 9" mark.

Dogs are allowed on the AT and other trails but they are NOT allowed on the trail to stony man.... which makes this loop mediocre at best.

Love this hike!
Done it 3 times but never all the loop. I found difficult to find where to turn if doing it counterclockwise. The first time I went, it was 06:00 AM and saw a bear in a tree.

This trail was very easy and didn’t take but maybe an hour to complete. The top was amazing but be prepared to share it with tons of other people because it’s a popular hike!
