The hike up is short but if wet (as it was for us) it would be slippery coming back down. We elected to take the alternate route back. It is worth the detour. Beautiful hike in the woods crisscrossing several streams. The view from humpback is awesome! It was a bit crowded but nothing unusual for other good hikes in August.

Beautiful hike, lots of rain the last couple of weeks so the falls were roaring. Moderate is an accurate assessment. Hiked it with my wife and our two granddaughters. Girls complained a little but not to much which rates this as a good family hike. will differently hike it again when in the area.

Great hike for young children. Trail is strenuous but short. Great view at the top.

Hiked this with a friend after a week of heavy rain and the falls were incredible! The trail was waterlogged and a little difficult to navigate at points, but overall still a beautiful hike. Crabtree is one of my favorite hikes in central VA.

great views of the waterfall. well maintained trails.

Beautiful views all the way up the trail! View from the top was nice and had a small area if you want to sit and enjoy the view! Pretty steep incline but worth it! Work out with a view! Loved it

Me, my husband and our 3yo goldendoodle did this hike on July 28th. The hike up the falls was simply stunning and we took full advantage of the rest areas to enjoy the scenery. The view from the top was absolutely gorgeous and decided to continue on to Crabtree Meadows, the AT and then back down. If you have time, I highly recommend adding the extra miles to round out the hike.

Perfect hike for anyone looking to take in some beautiful scenery, diverse landscape and breathtaking views from the top!

Wonderful climb to the top with spectacular views from the rocks.

My husband, daughter (age 7), son (age 5) and myself (who is 20 weeks pregnant) LOVED this hike. We did it in June. Plan to pack lunch and bring lots of water. The trail, at the time we went, was moderately trafficked with other hikers. Very enjoyable and something we will do again

Great view of the falls and even saw otters! Great time

Did this late October. Weather was perfect and the trail itself was easy for beginners. Loved the waterfall, foliage, and overlook!

This trail is a lot of fun with some pretty amazing views at the top. I stayed at the summit and watched the sunset. Camped close to the summit and got up and watched the sunrise. It was a perfect little trip. Took the longer easier way down. Pretty views there as well. Saw lots of bear too!!!!

I love taking this early in the morning when there aren’t many people and it’s not so hot. A great view to sit and enjoy morning coffee! It’s worth the climb!

Awesome trail. Absolutely stunning views. Very fun for children. Cost was $3 to park. Zen rock sculptures along the way that was really neat. Cave for kids to climb through. Beautiful vista at the top after uphill trek.

hiked up there today for the first time and with my 2 grandkids, 4 and 5, and we loved it! It is a climb but it is worth the views.

currently the downloaded trail is not accurate.park service has it roped off alternate trail was much more challenging. not what I was expecting, but what an awesome hike!

Absolutely stunning.

Great hike. Moderate difficulty. Great view from the Rocks

This is a great hike for families with kids. My family loved playing in the water. Wear shoes with the expectation of getting wet. This is an easy hike in my opinion with very little elevation change.

First time hiking this and I'll be back. Though the weather was in the 90s today it didn't feel that hot walking thanks to all the shade from trees which made it more enjoyable.
The multiple levels to stop and admire the falls were beautiful and relaxing to view.
I definitely recommend this trail for a quick day hike.

Steep incline but well worth the views of the falls and the overlook if you go all the way up.

Great hike and amazing views.

Beautiful hike, have been going up for years. It is a bit of a climb but as long as you are in decent shape it shouldn't be too difficult. The views are well worth it.

Hiked this trail back in November and there were many people hiking. There is a climb to the top however there are rest points as you go up and the view at the top is worth it. Well maintained trail. I originally thought that crab tree falls was one big waterfall but it is really multiple continuing waterfalls on various levels. Still a beautiful site.

Fun to wade through the water as we crossed to follow the trail. A bit buggy with the standing water pools but overall fun and moderate hike with baby in a backpack. We took a nice dip at the end.

Beautiful. Worth the hike. It’s steep so allow enough time to get up there and enjoy your time.

This is listed in my area but I live in Washington state

I absolutely love and hate this trail! If you can get up the first third of the uphill you will do just fine the rest of the way. The stairs were tough for me. There are beautiful views of the falls along the way up. There is also a nice spot to rest and have a picnic at the top. The trail is busy and lots of people bring dogs. I saw some wild life on the trail, including a ring neck snake, a skink, tadpoles in some standing water, hawks flying at the top, and I may have heard a rattle snake. Good times, but grueling if you’re out of shape.
