Did this trail on 7/21/18. Drive up to the parking lot, it is about 3 miles off of the road and makes the trek much more enjoyable as the road leading up to the trail is quite steep. The falls are beautiful but to get close to them there is some rock climbing necessary. There is a nice little spot to get into the water weather permitting. In late July it was about 85 degrees and would have been nice to get in.

Hiked both Rancheria Falls and this one with 2 friends on the same day. This hike that goes about 2 miles alongside a creek and ends at the pools which were almost completely frozen over. Beautiful views and very peaceful, perfect for small families and for kids who love climbing rocks but make sure you wear appropriate footwear. The trail is not well marked at certain parts but pay attention to the path or stay close to the creek and you will be fine.

Went with 2 friends on 11/11/18 and found the waterfall completely frozen over. We arrived early in the morning around 9am and it was empty and the road itself was a bit bumpy but I was driving slow like a turtle and avoiding the bumps and holes along the way. A bathroom is available at the trail entrance but there is no toilet paper provided so heads up. Trail itself is pretty easy, and we passed someone pushing a stroller on our way back. Trail itself ends at the waterfall, had a great time...worth the drive and the hike.

We did this 11-3-18 and although it took about 2.5 hours from Fresno, the weather was gorgeous. The fishing however was horrible with not a single bite. The last mile or so of the trail was tough but still gorgeous. Rock lake looks really close on the map but it ends up being down this huge hill that you eventually have to come back up.....we left too late to do it but hopefully next time. :)

Great hike, beautiful sights, but cold night as expected for the time of year. Best part about the cold though, No mosquitos. Fun overnighter overall

Great trail for the whole family! My husband and I took our daughters (4 and 2 years old) 10/28/18 and they absolutely loved it! It wasn’t busy at all when we went (1:30pm) and we even ate lunch at the top of the trail! The girls needed hoodies since it was a little chilly by the waterfall. It was a gorgeous day!

Quite an easy going, but beautiful walk to the Twin Lakes. Most of the trial is in the shadow (late October). The destination is breath taking and absolute worth it.

Beautiful hike. It was definitely warm and a very busy day. The trail was easy but we didn’t get to check out the falls close up, just from afar as several huge families were there sitting on the trail, quite annoying. We will try it out again. Went in late August 2018 before school started.

Wonderful hike. Lots of trees and shade. Also a ton of sand, dusty trail. We saw 6 horses with riders on this trail beautiful views and peaceful nature hike. It was smoky at the time, so we unfortunately didn’t make it to the lakes. We will definitely go check this trail out again. Our wiem loved the hike. Friendly hikers. We hiked back in July 2018

Great hike. Some strenuous parts, rock climbing but not terrible, doable. Just be warned.
Water was still flowing into the 2 pools. It was a peaceful hike. Not too many people in site. Our wiem was in heaven with the sites, sounds, and smells. We Even witnessed a doe with her fawn eating from the nearby foliage. Fall is evident here with colored trees and definitely on your drive up! Beautiful! Young families would adore this hike!

Very good hike. You walk through a lot of trees and it breaks out into some awesome views at the lakes. Nice and quiet. Not too many people, but it is late in the season. You don’t have to get up there super early because the walk is only around 2 1/2 hrs. Plenty enough time to walk around and relax.

Just as reviewed. A nice short hike. Took small dog and he did well. The earlier you go the fewer people. Got busier closer to noon. Great views and decent birding.

Worth the private lake views! Long moderate incline. Trail is marked fairly well, just pay attention for signs. Getting to the trailhead from Shaver lake takes about 45 minutes.

Great hike for the family and with dogs. Short and sweet, only takes about 20 minutes to get to the waterfall. Beautiful views!

Excellent trail! Did this Oct 6, 2018 with Overland Bound, wonderful time. Trail in great shape. Other than the first gatekeeper, all obstacles had a bypass, the gatekeeper might of had one as well but I did not notice it. Need 4x4, lift and bigger tires, also skids. As said do not go alone, on weekends there will be others on trail so stay alert. trail can be ran up and back or up and return a different trail. Trails not marked completely so have a map. Edison camp is wonderful camping area.

Beautiful lake. Did an overnight trip with my daughter. Temperature at the lake felt about 10 degrees cooler than on the trail. Probably due to the wind gusts. Ended up camping about a 1/2 mile from the lake. Fishing was great as well.

Really enjoyed this trail. Large boulders and required a spotter in a few places. Had to engage the front locker a couple times to make it a bit easier in a 80 series Land Cruiser with a 2 inch lift and 35" tires. The reward at the end is a nice small campground right next to Strawberry Lake. There is a pit toilet and fire ring. You will need ground clearance as my sliders and undercarriage armor scraped on a couple spots. Not a dangerous trail, but a stock vehicle will likely end up with a scar or two attempting.

It was absolutely gorgeous. Wish I brought my fishing pole. Passed 5 guys who said all together they caught 30 fish. Great hike.

This was a nice easy trail to take our 3-yr on. Short hike, with stunning views. We went at the end on September which had lots of foliage turning beautiful fall colors.

nice trail .

Do not attempt the drive to trail head unless you at least have a high clearance vehicle. And if it rains, you had better have four wheel drive. I drove in my Ford Edge and barely made it. Spun my wheels and scraped car under carriage a few times. But the destination was well worth the worrisome journey. Absolutely beautiful. There really are no mosquitoes at this time of year and no bear activity which really adds to the enjoyment. Very high altitudes though. Take it slow especially if you are a sea level dweller like me!

I will be back, but in a truck!!

BTW I have a tried and true formula for mosquito repellent. Mix vapor rub (menthol) with coconut oil. Three weeks in Fiji with hummingbird size mosquitoes and I didn’t get bitten once!

Nice trail. You definitely need a good spotter. Had a great time. Took my stock Nissan Frontier 4x4 and had some problems going up but nothing major.

We did this trail in Sept 2018. Beautiful views of Shaver from the tower. I did the trail in my ‘94 YJ and my buddy took his 99 TJ. Neither had any problems with the trail besides a couple of scrapes on the skid plates for the stock size Jeep. This was my first time off road and my first trip with my Jeep. I recommend taking a friend and you’ll have a great time.

Parked at bathrooms and hiked up slight incline but very manageable for my husband and I who are 48 & 50 years old. Views were pretty and path was clean. We stayed further back from falls and decided not to take on the larger boulders that were closer to the falls and still enjoyed the beautiful sight & sounds of the falls and creek. Amazed there was still as much water as there was in September. Our 4 pound Yorkie had no trouble at all either.

very fun off road trail, the dinkey lower green gate route is easier then the tamarack route. only one spot caused problems for my open diffs cause of loose sand but there is a bypass.. I've got a 87 4runner stock on 31s and I scraped pretty bad in some areas. invest in some sliders unless you have about 2' clearance

Did an overnight trip this weekend and camped at Upper Twin Lake. Found a nice established camp up the hill on the north side of the lake. Awesome! Stone fire pit and logs for seating. Several areas to set up tent and a hammock. Perfect weekend! A bit chilly, but worth it!

Gorgeous hike, beautiful lakes. Mosquitos are out of control. It was hard to enjoy anything while being swarmed constantly. First night at stayed at first dinkey lake, with an amazing view of the lake and meadows. We hiked up to higher elevation and stayed at rainbow lake the second night, which was significantly better, mosquito - wise. We were all covered in DEET, and used citronella incense, as well as natural repellant, to no avail. I'd love to come back some day when the mosquito population isn't as crazy. Great trail for beginners and kids, otherwise.

I loved this trail. But you don't want to go there alone. Trail is not marked. You just park on the side of the road (near sign that says Bald Mountain Summit) and look for a small path to the top. At the beginning path will be marked with some plastic lines on the bushes and trees. It's very strenuous in the beginning, no warmup. After about a mile you get almost all elevation and trail become easier and more spectacular. Still no marking but you can following stone pyramids other hikers left there. Be careful when going down and try to follow same markings you saw while going up. We ended up doing some back and forth because we lost our way down few times.
