Came here on a weekday when we could park at the trailhead. It's a short but steep hike up to the top. The views were still amazing despite some of the haziness from the nearby fires. Definitely plan to come back when the sky clears and to go to stargazing.

Beautiful short hike through the Sequoia’s. Nothing difficult about this hike at all but still able to get up close to these amazing trees!

The views are spectacular and second to none. The parking is limited. The crowds are dangerously overwhelming. Be extra careful when going up there.

The reason this hike only gets 4 stars is the lack supervision from park rangers. I saw a lot of people careless on trail that doesn't give second chances.

Get up early and have this trail to yourself! We started our week with this gem. Hit the parking lot at 0700 and practically had the place to ourselves! Later in the day the place is like an ant hill! The Sherman Tree is absolutely glorious. They all are. The sequoias are a national treasure. It’s amazing to think about an organism that has been alive as long as they have. The trails in the area are bountiful and you can make a day of it just in the Giant Grove!

Nice hike with kids. A bit trafficked but manageable.

Not much of a trail...just a short, wide, paved walking path to see a big, awesome tree. No adventure here, put the spectacle of the world's largest living organism is a must see!!

Not really a hike but the view is breathtaking

Easy. Paved. A little up and down but a nice stroll.

Have to go at least once. Pretty amazing. But just getting overrun with tourists. Not relaxing.

Short climb up to the top for views of the Sierra's and the Valley floor. Gets crowded at sunset. Pro Tip: Go right after the sun goes down - everyone leaves, you still get soft light and usually you have the top of yourself to view the city lights below and stars above. On a full moon, the mountain range behind you really light up!

Grateful to those who crafted this amazing feat with stairs, bars, etc. so that generations can climb and enjoy the beautiful views! A definite must if you're in the Sequioa Forest!

Nice, short hike. The views are awesome.

Beautiful and easy walk around a large meadow. We saw four deer in a mile and a half walk. Although there are masses of people brought in via shuttle buses, the trail was surprisingly empty. Any visit to Sequoia should include this trail. It can be easily completed by all ages and skill levels.

The trees are certainly something to see and if you're nearby you should definitely go. Be warned, the hike down (and back) up is pretty steep. I was thoroughly winded.

My one complaint is the tourists just aren't considerate of the natural space. Climbing all past the signs and on top of the roots. Go see it now because this is how wonderful things get ruined. If you go, don't be a jerk.

Nice and quick hike up with some beautiful views at the top.

Awesome Tree, I mean REALLY amazing BUT I agree with many of the other reviewers, if you hike for peace and quiet, nature and a few courteous interactions with others that prefer the like, this is NOT gonna be it! Very Tourist attraction as is most "Paved" trails IMHO. Def need to see but be prepared that it's overwhelming and not likely to be relaxing!

Perfect for our young kids. We took our stroller and found no problems navigating it on the trail. Plenty of spots for our 2 year old to climb on rocks and explore.

The views are just stunning. And the trail is well supported with handrails and rock walls so it’s doable even for someone like myself who’s not great with heights. I’d suggest doing it in the early evening, to avoid the worst of the crowds. We were there about 6pm on a weekday during late June and there were still lots of people on the trail, but not too many.

The most peaceful and magical walk I’ve ever done. Super easy and just breathtaking. If you love giant trees and meadows, you’ll love this walk.

Awe inspiring views. Easy trail

Beautiful short trail. Trees were amazing & so much less crowded than Sequoia

The walk/hike was WONDERFUL to experience. A couple of things to note. 1) From the parking lot it is a steep walk that descends 212 ft in elevation to see General Sherman. The path is paved with steeps and plenty of benches to stop at along the way. 2) You can take a shuttle back to the parking or hike the same path you just descended in which case the benches may be more welcoming.

I would suggest taking the Congress trail to extend your viewing of other giant sequoias in the area too.

Definitely a must do to see Sherman tree (and all the other trees). Serious hikers might not like the paved trail and the crowds (I didn’t). In this case I would recommend extending the trip to log/crescent Meadow as I did.

This made for a great family trip. We spent most of a day in the park driving through the trees, stopping at lookout points, having a snowball fight (we found a patch of snow), and hiking. We did this hike with a 7 and 9 year old and had no problems. It was fun for the whole family.

amazing tree, trail packed with rude tourists.
