It is a very easy trial amidst tall trees. As the name states, view from the rock is outstanding at sunset. It is worth every step to reach here for this view alone, and a pretty easy hike.

Easy. Paved. A little up and down but a nice stroll.

Although barely a hike, it is a minor detour off the Giant Forest-Moro Rock Trail. It has a steep ascent but it’s short so not a big deal. The Hanging Rock is great for fun photo ops and amazing views of the foothills and Valley.

went this week and enjoyed these amazing large trees. if you walk out onto the granite face with all the stones you can see the rounded tops towering across the small valley of the Muir Grove.

Yesterday, I was standing about 50 ft from Mckinley tree when a 100 ft juvenile sequoia fell on the trail where I was taking a picture. Managed to sprint out of the way, but have wood dust in every nook and cranny! What a spectacle! Will beat any bear sighting I guarantee!

Beautiful hike, trail well marked, love the ferns with the sunlight shining through.

A really nice easy trail :)

The trail is a peaceful walk in the park. Felt like a museum with some signs identifying sequoias as the President, another General, and House of Senate.

Such a beautiful trail that meanders through the forest. You get great views of some big trees and unique groups of several trees together (The Senate and The House). I recommend going very early (before 9am) and you pretty much have the place to yourself. It’s incredibly quiet and peaceful. My only criticism is that the majority of the identifying signs for the trees were down for repair with a sign that they would be back up in spring 2017. (I hiked it 5/18/18, still no signs).

This is definitely not a moderate hike - my then 3 yo (the first time there) had not problem with this. I love this hike as it is a great place for kids to get their energy out without taking then on a huge hike. Sunset rock had a wonderful view on clear days. Great place for a picnic. Have seen deer each time there and a bear one time.

Fewer people on this trail than the General Sherman Trail, but I'd still call ik "moderately trafficked". You walk along some huge Sequoia Trees with nametags.

Definitely and underrated trail. Very easy to manage but has a nice view at the end. Only complaint is it could’ve been a little longer.

I don't know why more people don't do this hike. It is a very easy hike but it gives you that in the middle of nowhere feel. Little to no traffic. We were the only ones on the trail and were able to travel it with a 6 year old. There may not be much elevation gain but once you get to the end you will see an AMAZING view. One of my favorites in Sequoia. And if you want a romantic sunset to watch over the valley with the mountains in the background, what better place than the place with "sunset" in its name?!

Very easy hike and mostly paved. I don't really prefer paved hikes but that is just me. But I loved the sequoia trees. It is so peaceful once you get a ways in and the smells are like no other!

If you are accessing the Congress Trail from General Sherman Tree trail than you will be delighted to know that the Congress Trail is peaceful and lightly trafficked “at least the day we went” unlike General Sherman Trail. If you enjoy seeing Sequoia’s than this trail is a must, this trail provided up close views of hundreds of Sequoia’s.

This trail was very easy and fun to explore!

A sequoia grove Muir would be proud of. Special place.

Just what we were looking for with our 5 year old son. We had the whole trail to ourselves

Dedicated 0.1 dig to the top but nice little private spot off to the left if your careful of the ledge. Great lunch spot.

My family and I headed out early on this trail on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It felt as if we had the whole trail all to ourselves on the way out. There are so many just as amazing trees as the General Sherman. The paved trail was unexpected but good because the three miles felt like six with the altitude, the hills, and all the photo ops. On the way back, we met the midday crowd, especially back at the Sherman Trail.

We went for sunrise, we met one other person on our way back, saw a female whitetail on our way out, other than that we had it to our selfs.
I would really recommend this grove to the populated paved area around the general.
You should be aware that the campground closes in fall. You can park on the other side of the entrance to the campgrounds, just be aware that it adds 1 mile out and 1 mile back to the trail.

I've hiked this trail many times. great scenery.

Much better than General Sherman Trail. Hike itself was 4 stars but the 5th comes from finding a trails right behind the Senate group (doesn't show on maps here) that connected to other trails ultimately. Saw less than a dozen people over 3 hours and had the giant trees pretty much all to myself and all within yards of the "rat race".
