I took my 8 year old son and 64 year old father on this hike. It was a first time backpacking for both of them. They both made it and enjoyed it; though, this hike was a little harder than I expected it to be. My son carried his own pack with his sleeping bag and clothes. But he struggled a little. It was very steep going in towards the lake. Still, Heather and Emerald lakes are beautiful and we had a great time. On the hike out, my dad was already making plans for his next backpacking trip, and after In ‘N Out, my son was excited to hit the trail again, too. We all got eaten by mosquitoes pretty good on this trip, so if you have some kind of netting, I’d recommend getting taking it.

Getting the permit for overnight was easier than expected. We showed up at 6:55, doors opened at 7 and we were second in line and able to get a spot without any trouble.

Grateful to those who crafted this amazing feat with stairs, bars, etc. so that generations can climb and enjoy the beautiful views! A definite must if you're in the Sequioa Forest!

Views were amazing! We went early and only ran into a few other hikers, as we finished it started to get busier and the small pull off for parking was full.

Nice, short hike. The views are awesome.

Went here on June 23. I thought the weather was beautiful but the Northerners with me were a little too warm. Well-marked; you don't need a map to do this one. This is a trail I wouldn't hesitate to take with fit friends but depending I think the altitude and distance might be tough for some.

It's worth it though, the view is lovely at the top and on the way up. Bug spray is essential. Consumed 2L of water round trip, could have used more.

Nice and quick hike up with some beautiful views at the top.

went this week and enjoyed these amazing large trees. if you walk out onto the granite face with all the stones you can see the rounded tops towering across the small valley of the Muir Grove.

Planning to come back and camp at the campground next year so we can enjoy all the little swimming holes along this trail.

It was perfect.

The views are just stunning. And the trail is well supported with handrails and rock walls so it’s doable even for someone like myself who’s not great with heights. I’d suggest doing it in the early evening, to avoid the worst of the crowds. We were there about 6pm on a weekday during late June and there were still lots of people on the trail, but not too many.

Beautiful short trail. Trees were amazing & so much less crowded than Sequoia

This made for a great family trip. We spent most of a day in the park driving through the trees, stopping at lookout points, having a snowball fight (we found a patch of snow), and hiking. We did this hike with a 7 and 9 year old and had no problems. It was fun for the whole family.

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!

Beautiful and worth the effort!

Nice bit of engineering to create a path to the top. But views are meh!

Do not recommend this during high noon, to older folks or pets. Very exposed to sun and lots of jagged sharp rocks at the top. View is wonderful though with many pools along the way you can wade in.

Yesterday, I was standing about 50 ft from Mckinley tree when a 100 ft juvenile sequoia fell on the trail where I was taking a picture. Managed to sprint out of the way, but have wood dust in every nook and cranny! What a spectacle! Will beat any bear sighting I guarantee!

3rd biggest tree by volume and largest Sequoia trunk by diameter. Good enough for me!

Wonderful little hike! It was pretty easy. It had great views the entire way and the climb was gradual. The waterfall was beautiful, but we went when it was foggy and cold so much of the view was obstructed. I’m sure it’s even more gorgeous on a sunny day. All in all, I’d highly recommend it! I’ll definitely be back! We hiked it Memorial Day Weekend 2018.

Beautiful hike, trail well marked, love the ferns with the sunlight shining through.

Breathtaking view from the peak of Big Baldy. Trail is in decent condition, but the last stretch has loose rocks and a couple of sharp turns with steep dropoffs. Best to watch your step. Definitely would go again

A little heavy breathing for someone who doesn’t get to hike as often as I’d like. So worth the effort to the top! Despite the height, felt safe with the railing and design of steps with grooves in places for better traction. A little narrow in spots, so need to let groups by when ascending or descending. Created good opportunities to catch your breath though.

Such a beautiful uphill hike! Not long at all. Highly recommend. The view at the top is worth all the heavy breathing!

I did this hike on Monday 6 18, 2018. weather is nice in the mid-70s sunshine. there was a few people up there I saw Maybe 4 hikers on my loop around hump and back down Watchtower. saw only two people at Heather Lake. mosquitoes at Heather Lake will not bad though they were hungry. it seems that the trout in the lake we're hungrier they were swimming around ravenously hopping up and grabbing the bugs off the surface.

Great easy trail. You can bring your swim suit and swim in the pools below the water fall

Beautiful! Great trail for the kids!

What a view! Great hike

Easy trail for kids. We went in the late afternoon; not many other people on the trail and the trees were stunning in the afternoon light.
