Be careful bringing your dogs to this area, THERE IS TICKS! We went on the side where the old mine trail was (opposite side of stairs to Johnsondale trail) and after the trail went to the river we continued straight because we thought “it is supposed to be hard” and ended up being lost on the side of the mountain climbing up and down the mountain, we did not make it but we plan to go back now that we have done research. We now call it the lone survivor mountain

Short but keep ur heart rate up!!!

This was a fun side trip I took when I camped at Upper Peppermint Creek Campgrounds just a couple miles North on the same road. Dome Rock is surprisingly accessible. I parked my sports car down below thinking I would have clearance issues going up the dirt hill. Once I reached the base of the dome, I realized I totally could have driven up the hill, evidenced by the few family sedans parked there. Anyway, The view was great, the skies were clear, the sun was warm, and the breeze was cool. It's really amazing how many trees seem to be growing right out of solid rock. There was also this ancient looking dead tree up there. Note to visitors: don't stack rocks (cairns) without disassembling it afterwards. Leave No Trace.

Really nice hike. Roads were closed due to snow when we visited so took the long way, but was worth it because of all the Mule deer that crossed the trail in front of us. Not recommended on a cloudy day, because then there is no view from the top.

I've done this trail several times, and I never get tired of it. It is one of my favorites!

Fun, short hike up stairs to a beautiful view. Not recommended for those who are afraid of heights!

Absolutely beautiful! No snow or ice, but I did it before tonight’s storm. You can’t beat the views of the mountains or the valley below.

12/23/18- amazing views and no snow or ice on the stairs.

Hiked this trail on Dec 19, 2018. It was fully covered by snow during this season, so you have to walk on snow for the whole time. If you have proper shoes, it's still a easy one. We spent a lot of time on the trial to take pictures. It took 2h to hike around 2 miles to reach the end to see the fall. Although half of the fall had been forzen, it still looked amazing. We took around 40mins to walk back since no need for more pics. It's a quite trail and we only met one couple for the whole time while we were in the trail. For those ones looking and easy trail with beautiful views in this park, I high recommend this one.

Hiked this trail yesterday for sunset. It's fully covered by snow, so not an easy one in this season. You have to follow other people's steps to stay on the trail. If you want to see sunset on time, be sure to prepare to reach the top early, since the sunset in winter season could be as early as around 4pm-5pm. We started the trail at 4pm, however, we only finished half of the trail after 30mins and the sunset already started. We had to find a high point on the right side of the trial to catch the sunset. Although its not the top of the trial, it still can catch the whole sunset, very beautiful. In addition, make sure to bring a headlight, since it would be dark quickly, you might need it to find the trail while you are back.

Stunning views. Amazing rushing river in early June. Love this park! Watch out for snakes on the trail.

Beautiful hike in the snow. Waterfall is partially frozen - a good winter look! I used snowshoes from the campground entrance to the trailhead, and then the road was cleared on my way back so I could walk. Traction was helpful on the trail.

Very beautiful trail. The waterfall was frozen when I hiked this one but still nice to see. Camping was really cool but full so get a spot early. *Warning store you food properly because the bears are brave here. We saw two black bear in one night of being there. Drive slow to not kill these beautiful black bears and their cubs.

Short walk to the top. I like the views leading up the top more than at the top. It was a little cloudy the day we went, but still worth it.

Amazing views!

I love the view

Lots of people, but it didn’t ruin the views. I sorta ran the stairs a bit for exercise, but stopped very often. Personally I think the views climbing the stairs up were better than at the top, but that’s only Bc it was after fires, so a very hazy day. Doesn’t take long, worth it. Ok for kids too.

Beautiful trail. The end of the trail is magnificent!

We did this trail in July and really enjoyed it! Not too much elevation and many areas of shade. It was very hot and we enjoyed cooling off and wading in the creek along the trail.

We did this trail back in July. It was very crowded, but worth the stair climb.

Beautiful trail up to a granite dome with 360 views. A little different than any of the other trails we did at Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Not too steep. Well maintained trail. We were the only people on the trail in late November.

Steep climb with steps up to the top of Moro rock. Was busy even though was November but was also a weekend. Great boards up with interesting information along the path. We headed up here for sunset and was beautiful, the views from the top are breathtaking. Plenty of parking and toilets at the trailhead.

Lovely walk along the river with a clearly marked out path all the way to the falls. We went then in early November so there was only a small amount of water falling down. But looks like there would be much more water at other times of the year. Trail starts in lodgepool campsite so if your staying there is very convenient but we just parked in the visitor centre. There is toilets in campsite.

Great Panoramic view point looking over the mountains. Also amazing spot for sunset, we had the pinkest sunset at this point. We lost the trail on the way up but if you follow all trails route you will be fine. But alternatively if you want to get up to the top quicker you can just simply climb up, which wasn’t too difficult. Small car park but we went at the start of November so was quite and space. Also no toilets at trail head.

Lovely trail. Yes, I’d rate it as easy. Relatively flat, how far you want to go is really the only question. We hiked 2 miles in. We didn’t hurry, so the complete time hiking was about 2 hours total. Later learned trail end just about .5 mile farther, so we wished we’d just completed it. Next time. Trail goes along the side of the river. Lots of fisherman scattered here and there. Finished the day with a great lunch at Kern River Brewing in Kernville. It was a perfect day trip.

A nice little moderate hike. Air quality was terrible though from the fires. The views must be spectacular when the skies are clearer. I can’t wait to do this hike again after some rain or in the spring.

Cool short hike. The only problem is since it’s so short, it’s very popular so you can’t really hike your speed because of the crowd.
