amazing hike done MLK weekend 2018. view at the end is beautiful

Trail offers great views and an amazing scenery. My girlfriend and I were able to do this hike quite easily and we are not regular hikers. Going to see and experience the inside of the Soldiers arch is well worth the entire hike. The 7 sacred pools are pretty cool too. Good hiking boots/shoes are recommended since there are a lot of rocks and mud that you can step on/in. Great hike and will definitely make this a yearly trip!!

awesome trail with lots of scrambling up rocks. Probably my favorite hike so far in Sedona

This trail is very challenging due to its steepness and rockiness. Beautiful views but those can be had elsewhere in Sedona - this is for the strenuousness. The trail is mostly chapparal and cacti. Someone claimed to have gotten up top in one hour and down in 40 minutes - anyone who has hiked the trail knows the 1 hour ascent time is virtually impossible and running down is definitely impossible due to the steepness and rocky terrain (noted just as a warning because this hike is the real difficult deal and you should plan accordingly). On the other hand if you are in superior shape from regular aerobic exercise (including altitude acclimation, the top is at 6,500 feet) you should be able to complete it in 3 to 3.5 hours, longer in the summer. The five hours noted at the trailhead would be appropriate for someone not accustomed to the altitude or regular aerobic exercise.

Great trail with great views! Whole family loved it and got great photos.

Super cool trail. Definitely one of the toughest I’ve ever done. Allow yourself the full 5 hours that it says it takes if you plan to do the whole trail. Only 4ish miles round trip but lots of elevation and strategy involved. Also, so many great places to stop and take it all in. There were 3 or 4 times that we thought we were at the top and realized we had quite a ways left. Once at the top, there is a sign that says “End of Trail”. Totally worth the hike. I 100% recommend it!

Easy hike that doesn’t take too long. Only a few good views but those few views are awesome. Ends at a T intersection with another trail. Definitely worth the hike.

A good workout and worth it

Amazing hike. Only took an hour to ascend though it wasn’t exactly easy. Let’s just say my legs are going to be sore. The views are stunning. Sedona is an absolutely gorgeous area. My pup and I spent about 45 minutes up on top before descending...which only took about 40 minutes due to the fact we basically ran down it....it definitely doesn’t take 4 or 5 hours to hike like the signs outside of the trailhead say. Well, not if you’re in decent shape.

The perfect amount of challenge for a hike that took less than 3 hours. Properly sore quads the next day. Lots of people using this trail Christmas week. Must have encountered at least 60 other people on the trail.

Beautiful hike throughout. Good mix of woods and open space! I did it in the cold rain which I don’t recommend but it was still beautiful. Be careful though because it’s easy to start heading the wrong direction so pay attention! It’s easy to realize and find your way back on track at least!

Gorgeous even in January!!! Be prepared for the road to the trailhead. High clearance is definitely the way to go! The road takes a lot longer than what you would think. Wear layers, it was freezing then warm then back to freezing..... expect to get your feet wet too! Super fun and just beautiful hike.

Beautiful hike! The scenery was gorgeous all the way through. Going up the mesa was a good climb, but other than that, it was a pretty easy hike. So many different scenic changes throughout and a couple of neat discoveries you might not expect make it even more interesting. I'd recommendend it!

been there and it's amazing!

Fun hike. Relatively easy. Just some areas really change in elevation. Beautiful scenery all around, wherever you are on the trail. Fresh smell of pine. We went between 10am and 1pm and there was very low traffic.

Amazing viewpoints as you climb. The hike is mostly a straight vertical climb with a small crossing to another climb. The 360 view at the very top is amazing and well worth the effort. Wear good shoes and bring lots of water. We were 3.5-4hours up and back. Took a break at the top for lunch and to enjoy the views. Also enjoyed many viewpoints on the way out. Trail is across the road from the main trail parking lot and is marked by white paint strokes on the rocks as you climb. Highly recommended and not as heavily travelled as other hikes.

The perfect challenge for an avid hiker. The views make the tough climb worth while. This is the perfect hike to see an almost 360 view of Sedona and the valley below with many diverse viewpoints! Definitely bring lots of water and snacks, this one will wear you out!

Great hike! Did the 5.2 mile Brins Mesa to Soldiers Pass to Jordan/Cibola pass loop at 7 1/2 months pregnant* and found it to be perfect - a good challenge at times but a great mix of ups and downs, alternating such that it was completely manageable. Great milestones to look forward to (7 sacred pools, sinkhole, etc) and keep you going!

*caveat that I have worked out - weights, spin or yoga - consistently 3-4 times per week since becoming pregnant

Steep climb and great views. Love it.

Lovely view of Sedona at the top.

Giving this a 5/5 even though we didn’t fully finish. Originally planned to do Solider Pass with the Mesa loop to add some more distance and views. About an hour into the hike we got hit with some snow which started to pick up as we got to the end of Solider Pass so we decided to turn back to avoid getting lost. Pretty well marked and trafficked is not too difficult to find your way around unless it ends up snowing a few inches while you’re up there.

The hike is amazing and can be challenging to get to the top. A few false peaks can dampen your spirits and the steep sections can push your legs to the limits. My 11 year old daughter made it all the way to the top and back down in under 3 hours. It was not easy but very fun.

Awesome rock structures, sink hole, riparian forest. Do the loop with Bryn Mesa but don’t take the Jordan Trail unless you don’t mind following electrical wires. Soldiers pass =great hiking. Decent elevation and good workout!

3 stars because of its underwhelmed ending. The main part of the hike is the sink hole but it is cool but not as exciting as the other hikes around the area, hikes like devils bridge, cathedral rock and bear mountain. Definetly do not do this hike before doing some of the other ones in the area.

Great hike - recommend bringing hiking poles to really enjoy it. The false peaks tricked us on the way up but we were rewarded with snow falling at the top!

Would love to do again on a clear day. Highly recommended.

Great hike. Beautiful views. Stay on path easy to get lost!!! Must do while in Sedona....

Went with wife and pups last weekend. Parking opens at 8, get to the trailhead before 8:30 if you want a spot. Also you don’t have to listen to or see the Jeep tours if you go early which is nice. Sedona always has the most beautiful hikes. The sinkhole was awesome and the pools were pretty neat. Didn’t do the full trail because I was only interested in finding the cave. Look up online how to get there. It did not disappoint. If you’re physically capable, do yourself a favor and go to the end of the cave and climb the boulders that go out the very top. The view is amazing.

I like a bit of a workout when hiking, especially if the rewards are as great as they were on this trail - my favorite out of 5 I've done in Sedona. Spectacular views, each "peak" had its own. I loved the lack of tourist traffic, too - only proper hikers on this one. Took just over 4 hours altogether. Will happily return

Excellent workout and great views. Definitely worth it.
