Couple things before I launch into the review:
1. To the people wanting to take their Honda Civic because a previous reviewer said it would be fine. It is mostly fine if you're driving 4mph over the rocks. But you should opt for a larger vehicle if you don't have the patience.
2. To "Nikki" and those giving this trail a one star because you saw a bear. If you don't want to see animals, DON'T GO INTO THE WILDERNESS. Complaining about seeing a bear in its NATURAL HABITAT is like a bear complaining because it went into your house and saw you on your couch. If you're scared of animals or are ill-equipped if you meet one, you seriously shouldn't be in a forest full of wild animals. Ridiculous.

Now.. this trail was AMAZING. Did it in mid-November, and the fallen leaves were beautiful. There are 6 streams to cross, and it's fun figuring out which rocks are loose and might kill you. Fairly easy trail overall, but seriously breathtaking. Trail can get lost at times, but hikers have done a great job of marking trails that are hard to locate.

Nice hike, and a pretty decent workout for how short it is. Some pretty views and some fun steep sections.
A bit crowded on a Saturday morning and the parking situation was a mess. $5 fee to park and too confusing to figure out if a National Park covers it based on the signs, so I just paid.

Get there before 8 to have a relaxing hike up. If you get there late you may be sharing the trail with a lot kids, screaming tourists, dogs, and many other inconsiderate people that come with popular hikes. Fun little morning scramble though and the views are well worth it.

Pleasant trail along the creek with many crossings. We enjoyed the shade and partial views of towering cliffs on either side, even though the trail was fairly heavily trafficked. We did not go all the way to the end where we were told the vistas open out a bit. This would probably be an even better trail earlier in Autumn when the cottonwoods were still in color.

Beautiful hike! Amazing views

This hike is very challenging but well worth it to see the spectacular views! Not meant for shoes that have no grip.

Very nice day hike, beautiful views!

Beautiful hike! Recommend hiking boots not sneakers. Several areas of crossing water on rocks and sometimes had to step in water to cross. Not dangerous, just wouldn’t think anyone would want wet sneakers. The whole trail has gorgeous views.

great views for not that much effort. enjoyable to walk around the entire summit.

There is one part where it's bad, but it's the only place that it is that bad. Otherwise I was not scrambling.

Very pretty loop with nice views of Cathedral Rock. It was quite a bit longer than 2 miles, though, according to my pedometer. Probably closer to 3. We started on the creek side and went clockwise, which turned out to be more difficult, but it was still really lovely. Almost everyone else was coming the opposite way and had more downhill.

This trail gets 5 stars because the views along the way and the view at the top is totally worth it - but it is definitely a difficult trail. I would consider it more rock-climbing as there are multiple places where I was crawling on my hands/knees. I took my 60 pound boxer and had to lift him up/down in a couple spots. Even if you're in shape, the elevation changes so quickly it gets hard to breathe - my suggestion is take a couple breaks along on the way up and enjoy the views!

Easy hike with beautiful trees and fantastic views!

Awesome hike up...views along the way are fantastic. We came in via Yavapai trail head and hiked Slim Shady to Templeton to get to bottom of Cathedral Rock Trail. We didn't do the Templeton loop and just backtracked so round trip it was 11km for the whole trip. Slim Shady and Templeton were easy and very few people.

Fantastic trail. Wife thought because distance was short it would be easy. Be prepared!

Beautiful not crowded!

Very beautiful, lots of shade and seen lots of Blue Jays

I love Boynton Canyon - beautiful red rocks and amazing positive energy throughout!

We went 2 days ago, and it is definitely a hard trail. Some spots we were using all fours to climb. So worth it at the top. Windy and somewhat cold so bring that extra layer, hat, and gloves to keep warm.

Pleasantly surprised as we continued to climb. Some switchbacks but a gradual climb until the last .2. But it is an amazing hike. Once at the top, so many awesome views that are breathtaking. Once on the Mesa, it can be difficult to follow a trail since they are unmaintained. Pay close attention to where the trail ended at the top for you will need to know where to go to find your way back down. Can be difficult to find the trail going back down but so worth the climb. Tough on the knees going down.

loved this trail, though there is a lot of noise from the resort and some of the rocky areas make it more moderate than easy. great sunrise photos of color on the red rocks

Terrific trail. Next time, would plan on reaching the trail's end between 1-2 when the sun's shining down into the canyon.
