Absolutely magnificent trail. Would highly recommend during the fall season. It took us 2+1+1.5 hrs car to car. It’s an easy hike which is kid and pet friendly. However the drive till there can be tiresome once the gravel road starts.

2018/10/13 Saturday (Hiking Date). Best hike. Very good views (Falls, Lake). It is a rocky trail with lot of stairs. Total of around 7.5 miles. Tip: Visit the lake first as it needs more energy and then cover 0.5 mile trail to Falls on return. Also been there in 2017. Will I go there again? Yes.

great hike!!! loved it.
get there early there is very limited parking at the trail head.

Awesome trail! It took me approx 1 hr 10 min to get to the top, got quite steep in some parts but so worth it! Hardly anybody on the trail in the morning. I ate lunch at the lookout just admiring beautiful Mt Ranier! and some birds came and tried to steal my food

Freezing. Gorgeous peaks. Waterfall on the way. Sept 1.

Amazing views. Went there on the perfect weekend. Snow had accumulated in the morning. Not much. We started the hike at 12.30pm. Snow had pretty much melted. Took us, amateurs, 3.5 hours to reach the lookout. Elevation was definitely felt. Beautiful fall red colors. Hike would definitely need more expertise when snow starts accumulating.

im not in great shape so this was tough for me. im glad i did the falls first because i was exhausted by the time a got back down from the lake. it was soo worth it though. im used to doing hikes during the week so very surprised at the amount of people. a message to anyone who is on the hefty side, "you can do it." although it might take you longer and bring lots of water.

Great hike.. beautiful views! Thank you Jah. The reviews make it sound much worse (as far as the road goes). 10-15-18

Great trail, the falls are definitely a must on the way to the lake. It didn't feel as though as we thought it would be. It was crazy busy so that kinda took away from the magic.

Had a great hike on the upper trail, which is for sure, difficult, especially after the snow fell the evening before. Wear appropriate footwear and dress for conditions. The ascent is testing so do lots of sauntering to prepare. You will love it! The 360 view is real nice.

A strenuous hike but the views of lake crescent from the top are worth it. Beware the snack stealing warblers.

10/15- Beautiful hike! Definitely some elevation gain, but the views are worth it. :) We did not encounter bugs, and the trail was not crowded. Autumn seems like the perfect time to hike the trail! The drive to the trailhead was a little rough; it adds a good amount of time to the commute.

My husband, dog and I hiked this yesterday (10/14). The weather conditions were perfect at a cool 45°, not a cloud in the sky, and no wind; all of which I find pretty amazing for the middle of October in the Cascades.

We started at 12:05, reached the lookout at 3:00, started descending at 3:30, and reached the vehicle by 6:10.

I loved the different layers of this hike; dense forest, uncovered meadows blanketing the slopes, boulder fields dotting the top, and a challenging scramble to reach your destination.

There were a few pockets of snow and on our descent, the top half of the trail was a muddy mess, otherwise it was very manageable. The few morning hikers we met mentioned seeing a mama bear and her cub in the meadow above the trail but we didn't see them. Also for any fur parents, my 40 lbs. lab mix did not fair well with rock scrambling to the lookout and down.

All in all, I really enjoyed it. The worst part was the brutal 4 mile road to the trail head.

This was a beautiful hike but definitely difficult. If you’re not a frequent exerciser in great shape, I’d say try something else. The incline was pretty intense with not a lot of flat area breaks. Not sure I’d say the view at the top was worth it but it was nice to look at.

What an amazing hike, one of my favorite’s so far in Washington! It’s a calf/quad/booty burner and there’s a considerable scramble to the lookout, but it’s so worth it. The views from the lookout are breathtaking! The only thing I’d say is that the road to the trailhead is rough, covered in potholes. Get there early as the parking lot is small and the road to the trailhead isn’t wide, so it’s tough to park on the road before the trail. A must-do hike!

A tough hike and dangerous spent the night with Olive my Welsh terrier definitely would like to do again the views spectacular

Very nice trail to do, specially with the nice weather of today. Sure something to do.

It was beautiful!

Great starting point for multiple other hikes. No snow at all.

The road is still being worked on, but is open now. Road is pretty rough in areas. The side of the road is soft, there was a car that actually slipped off while we were up there. Large parking lot! Trail is almost all switch backs. We spotted 2 bears, a few pikas, and tons of chipmunks. Once at the top, the temp dropped and it was freezing! Prepare for wind!
Fall colors were amazing!

Great climb! Loved the steep at the very top and views were amazing.

Amazing views! Glacier peak, vibrant lake’s color and even the fall’s colors.
It’s a difficult and steep hike but completely doable. (I don’t recommend it for families though).
The road to get to the trailhead isn’t too bad, some small potholes.

One of the best! Start getting into the snow near the top of comet falls, before Van Trump trail.

Loved this hike! Watched a proposal on top- the weather was amazing, view was great, go do it. Bring $30 cash or you will get a ticket. Good tires recommended as you must drive on a long and bumpy dirt road.

Awesome views! Had a great time in the lookout

We started this hike after turning left onto the trail around 7:30am, it ended up being a perfect day with the sun out. the trail was easy to figure out, a good amount of switchbacks which leads to a rock scramble and i think 3 rope areas to climb up. I would not put your full weight on the rope, one of the ropes were pretty sketchy because it looked frayed and was tied to a very small bush. we ended up going to the "false summit" instead. This is the one where you can see over lake crescent and sit or stand on a rock ledge. The true summit was far too steep for us to handle as a normal day hike, it looked a bit more technical.
In all it took about 2.5 hours to summit and back to trail head. we ended up taking a detour to check out the falls which are like an additional .5 miles away after we hiked storm king.

Beautiful hike!

Fantastic trail! the falls is a quick and easy trip and you should definitely make the side 0.5mile visit. catch it in the fog and be ready for amazing pictures.
the lake requires much more work, not hard but persistent elevation gain through a mostly well kept trail with wide-breasted stairs throughout. plenty of things to look at along the way not just boring dirt. the lake itself was clouded out for me but still awesome to be up there.
