Was a very good trail to hike! Did get lost a couple times but ran into people who was able to get us to are destination! Would go agin very beautiful site to see!

The views along the trail were incredible, despite the smoke hanging in the air from the wildfires in the region which obscured some of the more distant mountains. The drive up from Icicle road has some amazing views and road is in good shape. Parking permit is $5. Took two and a half hours to reach the lake from the parking area. Didn’t encounter many bugs. Views at the lake were stunning, the water was brisk but refreshing; definitely worth bringing a bathing suit!

While enjoying the view I was unwittingly recruited to take photos for a lake-side proposal. He picked a great spot for it! I wish the happy couple all the best!

Doesn’t get much better.

With each up and down, each bend traversed, all were meet with soaring mountain peeks, beautiful rock formations and gorgeous lakes scattered through out.
Between the spectrum of beautiful colors, the diverse changes of landscape ....I don't have the right words.to describe. This hike needs to be only experienced.
Good day, great hike!

Great wild life. Flowers were in bloom. Trail was in good shape.

Definitely doable if you’re not fit but took longer with all the breaks. Be careful of stepping on shale. Poles help with this bit

Great views of lake Mowich as well as Lake Eunice on the way up to the fire lookout.

This hike was exhilarating! I highly recommend everyone try it at least once. We went on August 12, which was a little overcast. Check the weather before you go so that you hike on a day to meet your expectations. An overcast day keeps you cooler, but you will miss some of the views. Overcast worked for me, as I skipped some of the trails the closer we got to the top. For an extra challenge try some boulder jumping. This was an amazing experience!

Gorgeous trail, not too steep but also a workout. The snow on the mountain is a nice treat.

A fantastic hike with amazing views of Mt Baker and 3 pretty lakes. Many patches of snow remains at higher elevations, but totally doable in hiking boots. Pack plenty of water and snacks & enjoy!!

The view at the top is stunning! I would say this hike is more moderate than hard. I’m in decent shape. The last bit is steep but just when you think it’s too steep it will even out to give you a little break. It’s definitely longer than 7.7 miles especially if you want to walk around the lake and see it from all the points which I highly recommend. Definitely go to the rocky part where aasgard pass starts. Totally worth it! Get there early because it was super crowded coming up when we were coming back down around 12 and it is a lot cooler going up in the morning. We didn’t have a problem with bugs at all.

This is one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. I would say it is more moderate than hard, the length isn’t too bad and it’s pretty gradual with a few steep points. The top is stunning views all around, the water is unbelievable. The water wasn’t as cold as I expected, so jump in! Make sure not to separate from your group at the top though because there are a ton of small side trails along the lake and they are very disorienting and our group and lots of others lost each other briefly. Also it is recommended to not pee on the trail due to the goats so there is a little toilet perched on the trail at the top for going to the bathroom- amazing view from it too! Recommend stopping in Leavenworth for a sausage after :)

I went here for a day hike on 8/11/18. My friend and I drove from Seattle starting at 5:30 AM and made it up to the parking lot by 8:30 AM. We didn’t even get to park in the parking lot because it was so crowded. A lot of people started to create their own parking spots later in the day, and boxed other cars in. So, I am totally happy that I didn’t park in the lot!! I just parked on the side of the road-I would recommend this. My friend and I are in fairly good shape as we both play soccer and run 3-4 times a week, so we made it up in 2 hours and 15 minutes. This included breaks and picture taking. The last 30-40 min of the hike are a bunch of rocky switch backs, and that part of the trail I would consider “hard”. Every other part of the trail is moderate. We sat by the lake for 45-60 min and ate lunch sitting next to the super turquoise lake. It was a beauuuuutiful day. It reached a high of about 75ish, but the trail is well shaded and we both hiked in shorts and a T-shirt. The only super exposed part of the hike is when you get to rest at Colchuck, but even then you can find a spot to rest in the shade! As for footwear, we are lucky enough to have nice hiking shoes and our feet were totally fine on the rocky terrain. The trail is doable with tennis shoes...I just wouldn’t recommend it since it’s a long hike (4 hours for us total). There were 0 bugs out, and I think we were really lucky about this as I heard this trail could get buggy. I will definitely do it again.

view was socked in but it was beautiful on the way up. trail was well kept.

Great hike. Went 8/11 got to the trail at about 6:30am made it to the lake in 2.5 hours. Had no issues with bugs. Trail was well kept up. Moments of steepish climbs then flat then climbs then flats which made the hike rather enjoyable. I personally would not rate this hard more like a high moderate. If you have done MAILBOX before this hike this will be a breeze. Lake is beautiful. GET THERE EARLY. Crowds show up in the afternoons.

Hiked this trail earlier this week. The view of Mount Rainier was amazing, it is a must do if you have never been to Mount Rainier before.

Hiked this trail earlier this week. As many other have stated this trail started out in an uphill and never ended until you reached the top. We saw one goat and it climbed to the highest point on the summit. There was a lot of smoke from the Maple Fire so we didn’t have the spectacular views that you would normally have on this trail. Because of that I will be doing this trail again when I know it will be a clear day.

Oh sweet Jesus this was challenging! Mostly because it was so hot! Went on Wed Aug 8 and it HOT! But what a beautiful hike and views at the top we’re worth it... I went alone but in hindsight might have been good to have company... I appreciated the meditative time with nature.. Enjoy!

Awesome hike! It was challenging in my opinion and I would reccomend bug spray for sure. The flies were relentless. Took our group around 3 hours up and 1 hour 45 minutes down. The view at the top was AMAZING and very worth it. We took a rewarding swim as well, water was around 40-50 degrees. BEAUTIFUL water and mountainous terrain!

Didn't hike the entire trail as we went with a 7 year old and Grandma. But the trail we did hike was beautiful. There was still plenty of snow, which my 7 year old spent much of the time.

The intensity level reflects what is stated on the site, HARD. I’m new to hiking and this hike was very rigorous and exhausting. I’m not in the best shape and I have asthma so I took many breaks on my way up. My legs started giving up once I was almost at the lookout but a group of hikers let me borrow their trekking pole. You definitely meet nice people when hiking :)

Tips:
- Bring bug spray, you don’t really feel the mosquitos and flies unless you stop.
- Drive VERY carefully on the last 6 miles before arriving at the parking lot as the dirt/gravel road is filled with a lot of potholes.
- Wear hiking shoes as you are walking over LOTS of rocks.
- You need a parking permit (Northwest Forest Pass), which you can purchase at Verlot Public Service Center for $5.
- Bring plenty of water and a snack.
- Take breaks as needed.

Amazing hike! Hiked it clockwise....you’re never without a breathtaking view. My first time seeing a marmot....they were plentiful. Highly recommend.

This was an amazing trail. Gorgeous views. Go counterclockwise and get the steepness over with. It’s an easy 3 mile stroll down after reaching the peak.

Always a classic. So good. Hazy day due to the fires, but not bad. Peak wild flower season has come and gone. This weekend will be the last chance to see some of the darker reds and purples. I would still suggest going to see the flowers . . But not past Sunday. Paradise Inn for lunch is not good . . Would not recommend.

Went on Saturday 8/4 and it was busy! If you do a weekend get an early start or you’ll be parking way down the hill. Went from Mowich to Eunice to the lookout.

Holy shit, bring big spray. Bust out that DEET! We brought some hippie natural organic stuff and it did not work whatsoever. These mosquitos were of a different breed! Great trail, took my 60 year old Mom and she took her time and had a great day. Picnic at the top and hope Mt. Rainier is visible! Great hike, but bring that bug spray!

Stunning!! My guy and I had such a great time with this one. Lovely forested beginning which leads up to Eunice Lake. Took a dip in the blue green water and swam with the salamanders. Then up to the top to the Lookout. Wildflowers were starting to pop! The views...jaw dropping. And, we had it all to ourselves! BE WARNED: Bring bug spray, and not a natural one (which is what I wanted to bring). The bugs mean business up there!!!

Beautiful trail and scenery! Bring bug spray.

2018-08-05, Sunday, arrived Paradise Visitors center parking at 8:30am, parking lot was half full.
We hiked skyline trail clockwise, stopped a lot and took many photos, amazing view and wild flowers.
It took us 6hours to finish this trail. My iPhone shows total 7 miles (11 km).

Aug 6,2018. Another wonderful day with nature. But the road going there was awful, it was like crater in the moon! So drive safely. And don’t forget to bring bugspray, you’ll thank me later. Lol.

As always, view at the top is breathtaking. But definitely not for beginners.

I love this hike for the amazing work out and AMAZING view at the top but there are a couple things to know:

1)The potholes on the road were awful! Enormous potholes everywhere so you have to drive pretty slowly and carefully which takes quite a while.

2) The mosquitos were REALLY BAD! Bring bug spray for sure! They are swarming everywhere, even at the top! Flies were pretty dense too but avoid mosquito bites and bring some spray!
