Probably one of the toughest hikes I’ve done. If you’re looking for a challenge do this hike! Make sure and take plenty of water and electrolytes. Pay attention to temperature!! Take lots of sunscreen.

So fun walking through the dunes. Definitely plan on adding a bit on to your total mileage, it’s really easy to wander around and get off trail once you’re out there.

Pretty white sands

We did this hike from the end of the gravel road. We hiked approximately 1.5 miles in to the narrows and then returned. Absolutely fantastic rock formations. The kids loved it. Plenty of room for them to run and play. Only moderately trafficked.

We hiked the trail in Mid-November. The weather was perfect. Mid-60s during the day and no wind. Absolutely beautiful and a great hike if you are looking for something different. You won’t find a landscape like this in many places. The silence of the place is astounding. The trail is well marked and most of it could be rated as moderate. Although the south side of the trail is more difficult and calls for lots of climbing up and over sand dunes; which can be fun but also a bit challenging for some. Eventually the trail smooths out and is fairly easy. I would recommend starting on the south side of of the loop in order to get the difficult sections out of the way early.

Was a great tour!!! We had rain and a little bit snow! You have to be carefull, the stones with the sandy shoes are slippery when wet!

Was a quick stop on a long road trip and was well worth it.

This is much shorter if you drive down the unpaved road. I drive a Prius so low clearance vehicles can make it down the road. Parking is a bit difficult so everyone parked along the road. The narrows aren’t that narrow at all but it’s amazing nonetheless.

We were here in Oct., and the weather was perfect - partly sunny, light breezes and 75-80 temp at midday. We were a little short on time, so only hiked out about 1 mile and then returned. I wanted to get past all the mounds with footprints, for good pictures, and found that in spades! We returned over some dunes that weren't directly on the trail, but in the general direction of the trailhead, and that was neat to be the only ones you could see for quite aways. In the distance we hiked, it was easy to navigate. Very easy to hike barefoot, and this is preferred, especially in the looser sand of the dunes.

This trail is a beautiful trail with amazing views easy, would be perfect for a family outing.

Monument Valley is very scenic. Great drive

Incredible, breathtaking view! You can see Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. Lots of things to learn with the signs posted around the trail. Definitely worth the fee, especially if you love history!

Beautiful views. We did the trail downhill after visiting Dead Horse Point State Park. Fun trail in a stock Tacoma and doesn’t take very long.

Hiked Elephant Hill to first 1.2 miles of the Chesler Park loop. 8 miles totall Good work out with rewarding views of the Needles formations. Pretty hot in late September. Bring lots of waters and snacks. You won't want to turn back early.
( you'll need to drive a narrow dirt road for 2 miles to get to the trailhead parking lot but easy for 2-wheel drive, just go slow on the curves looking for oncoming vehicles)

Wife wasn't a fan of the road up, but the view is great. It's a nice walk, some wildlife, and plenty of sky. The drive is about 10 up and 10 down, fee is 15, definitely worth the stop. Little shop in town was nice too.

Nice trail but not much diversity.

Get here early to avoid the heat and the crowds. Imagine a cave with a REAL tall sun roof. Take plenty of water as there are only seasonal springs in winter and early spring. Not technically hard; just a long walk in the heat if you're not early. Moonlight doesn't help as the cliff walls are too high.

So amazing and worth it, however took the 43 mile loop as posted at the trailhead. Took probably close to 2 hrs because I couldn’t help but stop for pictures every quarter mile

It is a beautiful drive through some great forests. You can still see the damage caused by the wildfires several years ago. Very slow driving because of the many turns.

We really lucked out with just the right conditions to hike this trail. Recent rain had packed the sand making it easier to climb the dunes. It also cooled it off into the mid 80’s which seems quite unusual for July. We hiked later in the evening and arrived at the flats just before sunset. We climbed one of the last dunes, spread out a blanket, and enjoyed the sunset over the mountains and flats. After sunset, The was still plenty of residual light to make the trip back. My shoes kept filling with sand so I opted for walking this one barefoot. The damp sand was cool and quite pleasant on the feet.

Beautiful! Well marked.

Got there just after 8, the weather was nice and cool. Great views all over. Saw a deer.

This trail is wonderfully challenging and very picturesque. It was very overcast this morning and breezy but still quite toasty. Definitely bring plenty of water. Trail markers are frequent and I did not find an issue with finding my way. I used my hiking poles and they were very helpful in areas where the sand was difficult to trudge through. I'm definitely going to do this one again!

Beautiful view, fairly easy walk, and several views of smaller craters such as Baby Capulin. Definitely recommend going with your family, and it isn't overly busy.
