Great hike! Fantastic views. A few more people on the trail than I had expected based on the trail description - though it was Sunday. In the late summer, you want to start this hike early so that you don't get caught in early afternoon storms that sweep in - we barely missed the thunderstorm that rolled in quickly around 1 pm. The last mile is very exposed, so plan to be off the peak by noon or so.

This is an absolutely fabulous trail! The end gets really steep with a lot of loose gravel and dirty. It can be slipper and difficult for some. My word of advice would be to go as early as possible - they only let a number of people into the park at a time and the canyon can get extremely congested as it can be only a foot or so wide at points

So much fun for all ages!

on Tent Rocks Trail

This is a must do hike. Great slot canyon and hike to the peak to over look the tent rock canyon and surrounding vista.

Amazing! My favorite place in New Maxico. Be sure to arrive earlier, as the staff began to clear the trail before 4pm. I think it's too early. They should give visitors more time to experience this great spot.

I can't offer a review but a heads up. they won't let you pass the gate after 300 330. Shorthanded and closing early

We loved this hike and did both the slot canyon trail and the cave trail. We arrived just after 8 a.m. on a Friday and had no trouble parking. There weren't many people on the hike up, and it was easy navigating the narrow passages. Quite a bit of scrambling up rocks for the last 15 minutes or so, which definitely required some effort. Slippery going down that same section. Beautiful scenery throughout the hike and at the top. $5 cash to enter. Portable toilets on site. Take water and snacks. Total time was about 2.5 hours for both trails. So glad we went early!

From the tight canyons to the top. Some tough spots. As everyone says “go early”.

Beautifully interesting scenery along the way made this hike amazing. We did it in October and the skies were gorgeous blue and the weather was warm, not hot or humid. Would definitely do this hike again. We got great photos along the way!

(Drove in from Houston last night, hiked Baldy today.)

Beautiful, long, reasonably hard hike.

The 3 creek (very small, more like “criks”) crossings were beautiful. At 3.5 (half way to top), there is a nice creek to rest or cool off your feet.

The terrain is (mostly) loose rock. I just wore tennis shoes (mistake).

It is an “up” then long ramp “down”, then “up” until you reach baldy.

The last mile is tough. I had to walk 100 steps, then rest. Of course, my heart was racing the entire time due altitude (and fat belly...ha).

Once you get to top, keep walking to the next ridge (maybe 40 yards) and you look down on a beautiful lake (Lake Catherine...I think.)

The locals love this one. If you aren’t used to the altitude, just take breaks so you don’t blow yourself up. It’ll still be tough.

I was committed to walking slowly enough for this hike to take all day. It did. 5 hours out. 4 hours back.

All in all, beautiful hike. As I was about making my way to summit, a man said to me “your almost there, it’s worth it.” He was right. Wow. 360 degrees of Gods beautiful creation.

(One note: as I was leaving the state police where setting up to search for a lost hiker. It’s a beautiful, well marked hike, but just be careful.)

Beautiful hike! Steep and a little rocky toward the top and the switchbacks going down from Baldy to Katherine are very narrow. For someone afraid of heights (me) it seems scary at first but is manageable and the views out are incredible. We backpacked out to Katerine, camped over night, and hiked out on Sunday. The lake was busy but everyone was spread out enough that you didn't notice. We did the hike in in about 4 hours and out in 3 with little or no stopping. Definitely recommend!

We took our dog and slept at Lake Katherine. Started out on the Windsor Trail and then took 254 past Spirit Lake and up to Lake Katherine. The trail from SL to LK was a little tricky to find (quick left after the stream and straight up). This section was much less maintained than the rest of the trail but we were still able to navigate it. LK is very pretty and the trail down (251) was an easy downhill. We recommend!

This is a wonderful hike! It’s actually 15.2 miles, not 13.1, so plan on taking the entire day.

Beautiful hike! We did it round trip in one day via the skyline route. This was a hard route, straight up w/lots of rock climbing and the trail was hard to find. But using the app helped us a lot. My Apple Watch recorded the distance at 17 round trip. The lake was so amazing and worth it!

Fabulous experience!

on Aspen Vista Trail

Some shade on the lower half in summer, which is nice. Go up early on summer and fall weekends if you want to beat the crowds. The aspen and pine are showing drought stress this year, but it’s still a fabulous hike. The width makes for a more sociable trail. It’s also fun in winter for snowshoes or xcountry skis.

One of the greatest assets especially for being 25 minutes from town. Hike in & out day trip style or backpack it for an awesome scenic two day adventure

Yesterday I hiked four miles in to the vista overlook. Today I went up to the radio towers and Deception Peak, for a 13.6 - mile hike. Views from the peak were spectacular. This is a popular trail for runners, mtnbikers, dogwalkers, hikers and families with small children. The grade is mellow. This is a great training hike for taller peaks. Come early as the parking lot fills up fast even during the week. This morning a herd of cattle were in the middle of the road.

Weather changes fast during the monsoon season. I started with clear skies and ended with storm clouds.

Beautiful views from the top and your rewarded with a cool breeze through the slot canyon on your way back down. High traffic but worth it..

This was spectacular. We arrived early and were glad we did. Got amazing photos and a great workout as well. Met lots of interesting people along the way as the traffic picked up considerable by 10:00. Would defiantly do this again. Took us about 2 hours. Take lots of water with you.

Note that this trail has been reopened. However, when we were headed to the trailhead via Wilderness Gate this morning at 7, neighbors driving by told us they had seen a large bear at the base of the mountain along the road, so we played it safe and hiked Picacho instead.

Very unique sight, all around a great hike. Highly trafficked but I met some nice folks along the way.
Just be aware of the heat and elevation; bring plenty of water and pace yourself accordingly. Very much worth going all the way to the top!

What an amazing view. It’s quite a steep hike, especially if you aren’t adjusted to the altitude. Go early to avoid crowds and sun.
