Great for the sunrise. Amazing views from the top and on the way down (I went counterclockwise). For a stretch you hike down the gentle backbone of one of the mountains and get amazing views of LA and the canyons. Saw a bobcat in the am by the entrance/river. Followed Justin’s recording and didn’t end up straying from the path. On a weekday hike not very crowded. Not much shade. Trail is varied—some scattered rocks, some packed soil, some river runoff and fire trail. Overall a great hike

Reached this peak on the second try after taking a shortcut that led to Mt Lawlor instead...the views are definitely worth it but the last stretch is no joke! make sure to pack plenty of water...we brought strawberries as well as strawberry milkshake IPAs, perfect celebration for the top!

We did this hike in mid-August along with our friend who was prepping for her trek on the JMT. The hike is well maintained, mostly shaded, and meanders up the mountain with a series of switchbacks. I prefer switchbacks to a straight stair-climb up a slope, so I appreciated the winding nature.
Only annoying part is the peak- little shade and LOTS of fitness group meetups that had music blasting and were having push-up competitions on the summit monument. Oh, and the drone guy. Not everyone wants to hear your whirring drone and be in your videos. Enjoy nature, please, and let the others around you enjoy it too!

Overall: nice and slow pace with lots of shade! No water and only pit toilets so bring plenty to drink.

Superb peak views.

Excellent hike! Started before the sun came up, easy to find the path. Parking was no problem at 6am on a Sunday but definitely was packed by the time I finished around 12pm. The hike was a good workout, the last 1.5 miles was a butt kicker! Great views of Baldy, which was snow covered! Cold at the top but tolerable. I think this is a moderate hike, I wouldn’t list it as “strenuous”, like Baldy!

Awesome hike. Really great for beginners who want to challenge themselves, and/or good for seasonal hikers who want a semi moderate hike to get back into shape for the winter season. Moderate incline at the beginning and end of the hike. Took me about two hours with one rest break at the top of the mountain. Mostly shades until you get towards the top.

Great view from the top. This trail was a good challenge!

As soon as you hit the trail you’re climbing switchbacks all the way up until you hit Echo Mountain point. Beautiful views as your climbing and at the top of Echo Mountain. We went up to Inspiration Point thru Castle canyon trail, it’s a challenging trail with plenty of shade and great views. We came down the Sam Merrill Trail from inspiration point, at first it was nice, lovely tress and shade but then it was switchbacks all the way down with full sun exposure and no shade. As challenging as castle canyon trail is I Would definitely do this hike again.

Did it twice already awesome, challenging, beautiful and relaxing. Did it at night and day too. Please pick up your trash. Don't cut the switchbacks. Thanks #HikerEvolution #HikeRevolution # HikerEVOLution

Tough but Awesome Hike. My First Peak. Going for 6 pack of peaks Challenge. On to Mt San Antonio!!!

It’s very awesome when you reach the top

Difficult but rewarding.

Strenuous up hill. So many switchbacks I wanted to quit. 4 hours in we made it to the top! Most satisfying hike I’ve ever done though! The view makes it all worth it!

Did this trail earlier today and it was invigorating to say the least!!! I didn’t know I had a fear of heights until hiking this trail because the path really gets narrow and steep with loose rocks so you really need to watch your step. The views were amazing and the weather was beautiful. I was prepared and had lunch up top at the picnic area where the big house used to be. That view is a must see. Great for those that have some experience and aren’t afraid of heights. Will definitely be back to hike the other trails!

This is a trail I wish the made even steeper just to save a mile or two it’s just what seems to be an endless amount of switchbacks

Beautiful hike with an amazing view at the end completely worth it the whole way

Enjoyed this hike. Pretty easy going until you start to actually climb the peak of which there are a few false ones.

Beautiful views at the top as well as along Crest Highway to the parking area (especially at sunset).

TIPS: could get hot if you get later - pretty exposed so plan accordingly: water, sunscreen, hat. Don't forget your Adventure Pass for the parking lot

it was a great challenge

Did this trail with a friend. It is definitely a workout. The switch backs make it possible. Bring water and snacks you will need them to refuel. Trail is well shaded. Excellent views ftom the peak. Will definitely do it again.

I will admit I consider myself to be a regular hiker, but this trail tested my limits, best advice would be keep your momentum, last weekend was my first time taking this trail, I did not expect it to be that challenging. However, the view is unrivaled. I set out at 5:55 am, took a few short breaks as well as a 10-15 min stop to watch the sunrise, made it to the summit at 7:50. enjoyed the view for about an hour and was back at my car by about 10:30. 10/10 would recommend!

OMG
UN SENDERO MUY TRANSITADO CON HERMOSOS PAISAJES, UN CONTACTO CON LA NATURALEZA SUMAMENTE INCREIBLE ... RECOMIENDO USAR ZAPATOS ADECUADOS DE SENDERISMO Y TAMBIEN BASTONES, AGUA, FRUTA, COMIDA PRACTICA...

Really pretty and challenging hike. As someone else has mentioned, reaching a parking lot at the top is not ideal. It’s just not the same kind of reward you get when you hike San Jacinto for example. If I were to do this hike again I think I would have someone pick me up at the top and drive me back to my car. Going up is always more fun than coming back down, at least for me.

Short and not as bad as they say. In the early morning you will start in the shade of Mt Lawlor, but after mile 2 it is fully exposed and hot. Lots of prickly Yucca, so were long pants. The views are generous, but you never really get away from the roaring motor cycles on the Hwy - minus one star for that.

I hiked on 9/22/18. started at parking lot at 0645, made it to the summit at 1215( yeah, I'll never break any speed records) at my age just finishing is a big deal.
Trail is beautiful, mostly in shade through forest, just gorgeous. last few miles to the summit are a bit rough. but of the 4 six pack of peaks that I have done this year. the is easily the most beautiful.
if you go on the weekends, the Cosmic Cafe is open at the summit. Had a killer hot dog, coke and cookie all for 10 bucks. a life saver. got back down to car at 515. so a full day hiking. Fyi, all trails has it as 11 miles, the signage on the trail show it round trip at 14. both my pedometers showed it 18. So go figure. Anyway a great day and an awesome hike. places to camp along the way also.

Kicked my butt! Ole sir Baden-Powell, yesterday was the last time i will see the summit, my 3rd time up, and now to find my bucket list...

UNA EXCELENTE AVENTURA UNA MANERA DE ECONTRARCE CON LA NATURALEZA ...

Great hike. A bit steep the last 1/4 mile to the peak but well worth the effort.
