Great place to find some little gems such as the tree with the insanely big roots! Recommend sneakers for the actual hiking trails.

Really beautiful beach

easy and beautiful overlooking the ocean. some climbing good shoes suggested

So beautiful! definitely recommend

this was a fun hike. trail is rocky most of the way. i liked the rest areas spread out through the preserve. very well marked and has way points by the trails. do yourself the favor of getting a map, or snap a pic of it at the start so you can navigate easier.

I thoughts this was a nice hike to go on, relatively easy and great view of olivenhain reservoir and lake Hodges! Definately a hike to do on an overcast day since there isn’t too much shade
I would say it’s a great trail to go on if you don’t know how far you want to hike since it does connect to the greater trail system.

We went up the hill first and walked through many of the offshoot trails before going back down along the beach. Great trail. Loved it.

Love this hike for the dog, she can be off of the leash for most of it. Make sure you bring lots of water.

I’m giving this a 5 because I thought it was really well marked, maintained, and quiet on a Friday morning. I took some of the side trails to keep my and my little one in the shade and keep him entertained with the water flow. This is the perfect little escape in San Diego when Julian, Romona, etc. are too far for a hike.

Very easy trail with many different branching paths. I feel like there’s always something new to explore!

Beautiful Trail, great for early morning runs!

Beautiful and easy trail.

More a long stroll than a hike but nonetheless beautiful and worth it. Great views. Nice trails. Many options. Great return over the beach. Free parking street side (don’t spend $15 for the parking lot)

Super easy! But bring lots of water because there’s little to no shade on the trail! You can park at hw basin and walk up the hill to the trails and then walk the beach back to your car or you can drive up to the trail head and hike down and back up. I prefer the beach loop!

Good little walk around some local trails. after walking the trails, I went and walked around Baloboa park

Good hike that’s clean and taken care of. I carry a toddler in a backpack and it’s easy to manage and lots of spots to stop and enjoy the view if need be.

Great trail. Lots of other trail options while you’re out there. Can easily stretch this hike into 4-miles. Plenty of places to take pictures. Finishing on the beach back to the parking lot is awesome!

The “waterfall” looked more like a watering hole, really. Definitely bring lots of water to hydrate along the way because there will be some parts of the trail that aren’t shaded.

Great hike, pretty easy. Dogs enjoyed it as well.

Beautiful views. Most of trail closed

Breathtaking views.

First mile, high elevation gain and tires you out but rest of walk to Lake Hodges overlook is so worth it! Creek is on way in/out of trail next to parking lot. I got a late start at 1030am and was done by 1pm

A must see. This hike sealed the deal for me and my move to San Diego.

Simple to hike. If you go clockwise you will ascend up to the top of the hill in the first 2/3 mike. It’s a good climb on firm trail along side the roadway. From the top you have multiple options that take you to various vistas. All have amazing views. The beach trail will dump you out on the beach for a surprisingly short walk back to the parking lot

Or..... Take the beach first and head counterclockwise for a change. Your toughest area this direction will be the middle 1/3 as you climb steadily. Then you have the big descent down the road to end.

Used to hike here all the time when I was in high school.. I should go back and hike it again!!

The creek was beautiful and had more flow than I would have thought for this time of the year. The trail was rocky most of the way up but you just have to pay attention a bit. I couldn’t believe it when I got to the top and I found toilets and a water fountain! Are we spoiled or what—-:-) I’ve never seen that before!

This trail is a great option if you're looking for a quick outing with your dogs. You can definitly tell that you're in a neighborhood since the trail goes from dirt to paved and back to dirt so keep that in mind. All in all, it's a nice walk, flat and easy to navigate since it takes you in a loop. Walking at a medium pace takes you about an hour.

Excellent hike, both vertical and mileage!
