Beautiful hike.

We did it about a month ago! One of my favorites! Loved the colorful fall trees! Definitely a "MUST do" in fall.

This is a really great day hike if you live nearby and are off to a late start for the day. We came from neighboring Longmont and started the hike around 3. Got back to the car right after the sun went down. The creek is beautiful and it's really cool to see some local infrastructure at work. I highly recommend this hike.

Our family did the trail today, Nov 3rd. Our kids are 14, 11 and 9, wehad a blast. We saw a elk carcass and all sorts of wild flowers dried up. The weather was perfect, we had prepared a picnic and ate it at tge 1/2 point next to the beautiful water fall. Awesome pics!!!!!

Lots of snow last weekend when we were there! Only saw 4 other people while we were out!

Beautiful hike with some stunning views. Very heavily trafficked especially on the road leading to the Sleepy Lion trail, but everybody kind of spreads out after that.

Beautiful hike!! I have hiked this trail a few times, it never gets old! Great views any time of year! Slightly challenging to get to the lake without snow shoes in early may!
I would recommend getting there early as parking gets tight if you arrive after 9am, especially on a weekend. The road to the trail head is rugged, an off-roading vehicle or one with higher clearance is best.

This is still one of my favorite hikes. Great views, waterfalls, forest, lake meadows and sweeping views at the pass. At this time there is lots of snow and ice and it is likely the trail will not be passable in the next couple of weeks with any additional snow. Forth of July road was rough but still passable with 4WD drive and decent clearance. No snow on the road at this time. It was very challenging to get to Lake Dorothy. Most people had stopped at the pass and in addition to being sandblasted with snow and ice from hurricane force winds, there was no path to the lake. We tried and got caught in thigh high snow from the drifts. Views at the top were spectacular if you could handle the wind. Great hike. Definitely one to add to the list.

Like is mentioned below, the return on this is tough. My 2 kids and I managed it with ease but some might struggle. The trailhead is shared with dozens of dirt-bike trailers and for the first 1/4 mile of the trail we could hear the dirt bikers coming & going. But after that it was calm and quiet. As of this writing there were some muddy areas due to last week's snow.

Nice moderate hike with plenty of lakes and streams- although as a result probably not ideal during mud season... jasper lake was frozen but still beautiful.

Hiked this trail on Wednesday. It was very icy with lots of snow. Road getting to the trailhead was rough too! Better have a high clearance vehicle for this one. Came across a moose and her calf 1/4 mile from the trailhead. They were very close so got some good pics of them. Didn’t seem to mind us at all but they were blocking the trail and I know moose can be aggressive so we made a wide left around them just in case! Very scenic hike but I wouldn’t recommend it this time of year. Snow packed and icy.

A bunch of moose, a bunch of lakes

$11 day use fee, there are better places in the area with no fee and less crowded. The sign said something ambiguous about there being no fee during winter, so I watched a few others drive in without paying and assumed it must be winter. Trail was icy, used yaktrax. Snow was deep past Isabelle lake. I think you can park back a couple miles from the long lake TH and walk in for free.

Really gorgeous hike. The last mile up there is already a decent amount of snow and at the top, close to 6 inches. Definitely wear waterproof hiking boots.

I was here Sept 24th and started at Brainard Lake and made my way a little passed Long lake before turning back. It was Chilly and windy at Brainard and once I got up to around Long lake it was Raining with some Snow mixed in so make sure you dress in appropriate Clothing and wear layers. It was a Monday when I was there and Only a Few Cars in the parking lot. Beautiful & short hike that I will definitely be back to do again!!!

Beautiful! Nice fall hike featuring some golden aspens and a couple waterfalls. In the early morning it was a misty hike through a cloud, which I thought made the whole experience even cooler.

This hike was incredible! Did it on 10/6. Road going up is a little wild, but not too terrible. Lots of snow at the top, still enough that you can walk on top. But I didn’t have hiking boots and my feet got pretty wet. Stunning stunning views!! You park at the Fourth of July trailhead.

Did this counterclockwise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fascinating mix of super wide gravel road, steep rocky single track (moments of scrambling even) and a descent on long deteriorating asphalt. Views were great and dam, causeway and canyon walls fun to admire. Dogs off leash on the single track only (about 40%) but that worked for me.

Beautiful drive especially in the fall, but should not be rated easy...definitely moderate. Coming back down was much easier. We saw a Moose on the way up which was really cool! Only about 3 areas that were tricky. The entrance being the worst of it. Coming back down was much easier.

Ah, this was a great hike. I went with my dog last Saturday and we had a blast. Arrived at the trailhead around 7am. It was pretty busy but still over 10 spots available. I started on Hessie Trail and went to Lost Lake. After Lost Lake, I hiked on Devils Thumb for a few miles. We turned around about 2miles from Jasper Lake because we were short on time. Wish I could’ve made it to the lake because the weather was perfect. My Fitbit said we went 12miles. Not sure how accurate it is though. We got back to my car around 11ish. Lots of cars waiting for parking and crowds of people on the trail. Again, so glad we got there early and hope to go back to hike to the lake soon.

Keep hiking to lake Isabelle if you’ve got time!

Fun, easy, forested trail with several good look out points over the river. Lots of sweet dogs and a few nice people. Went in late September and the Aspens were amazing!

Nice views but mainly service road hiking. Well marked and plenty of water for pooches. Nice designated off leash trails for the dogs.

It was a beautiful hike! Great pics. Very windy for an added chill but felt great. Fall colors starting. Would do it again.

This was an awesome trail, be ready to climb. With an almost nonstop gain in elevation until you reach the lake this is definitely an awesome workout with views that make up for every step you climb. Check out my IG for pictures from the hike @alvarado_dan_

If you don’t have much time, but want to get out and do something active, this trail is perfect.

I would say this trail is between easy and moderate. Going into the trail it is all downhill so coming back is pretty much all uphill. Lots of shade, nice views. Also no crowds and I got there around 9:30 am! If you have a vehicle with some ground clearance (small SUV and larger) you should be fine getting up the road.

Completed this hike on Saturday 9/22. This may be one of the most beautiful hikes I have done. Not too bad of an elevation gain but certainly not easy at some points. Luckily, it was the perfect blue sky day with a little wind at the top to cool us off when we reached to top. The views at the lake are incredible and we could have spent all day there if we did not have somewhere else to be. Take a walk around the entire lake to gain a different perspective of just how amazing it is.
The parking lot was oddly packed, as in full at this trail head and almost all the road parking taken for lost lake around 630am. A lot of people were backpacking on this trail and also splitting off to diamond lake. I think as long as the weather stays good and the road open, plan on either starting early or do something later in the day.

This is a go-to trail, the only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that almost half of the trail is a dirt road, but there are beautiful creek views along the road. There’s a little bit of everything, shade, sun, flat, steep and great views. Bring sunscreen, the road has little shade.
