Rock Collection Map

Closed for hiking, skiing only.

Great views of the Catskills. Breathtaking lake only 90 miles from the busiest city in the world. Great escape, highly recommend

Waterfall at the trail head is beautiful, however the gorge trail is closed for the winter.

Did as part of the Tupper Lake Triad today. All 3 little mountains is just under 8 miles. Fun to do all 3 in one day. Very short hike 2.2 miles total. Great views from summit. There is a fire tower but if you do not like them you do not need to climb it to have good views. Look for the little benches to see great views.

The last of three for the day. Great climb. need spikes. There is a fire tower on top.

I did Rattlesnake just before Poke-O. It ended up being tougher than my previous hikes here. I had to navigate up a huge wall of ice in my microspikes. I hit the Summit right at sunset. I headlamped it out and bushwhacked around the ice wall on my way down (no problem). A nice day of elevation gain.

I was just there today & would recommend this park to any visitors who enjoy hiking. The falls & gorge are worth every step. However, the red trails get confusing because they are actually 3 separate trails that can lead you away from where you think you're going, unless you use a compass carefully & take a picture of the map near the parking lot. Beware that from the footbridge, the White Trail is straight ahead, despite the low red flags along the same route. To follow the Rim Trail, your first step after the footbridge needs to be an immediate sharp left. I suggest installing simple rustic signs indicating the beginning of specific trails at each end, as well as an arrow indicating the direction to follow. Also, I suggest using a few other colors so that each trail has its own individual identity.

always great

Easy loop with well maintained trails and nice views.

Plenty of views of the lake with opportunity for some awesome pictures. Fairly easy going, and would recommend this!

Great little trail to start off snowshoeing in the ADK mountains. Had to break the trail today starting halfway up due to the recent snowfall. Pretty good traction though with the fresh snow. Very little ice to deal with. Sunny today so there was a great view at the top!

I loved this well marked trail. Kinda neat to see people ice fishing on one of the ponds/lakes too. I brought my dogs and we had a great time!!

Visiting family for Thanksgiving, we went on a whim and very glad we did. We walked the bluffs then the beach back to the parking lot. Great views, really enjoyed it.

The New Trail offers several great views to keep you motivated to press on. The work they did to the trail is really amazing. I never went up the old trail but several locals enjoying the Tower truly agree the trail they placed now is great. Keep a note round trip does change to 3.6 miles. Also Someone has however removed the sticks that were placed to keep you from taking the old trial. So when you come to the Y with red trail placards going two opposite directions note that the one that is brighter and newer is the one to follow. When you come up to this section don’t take the trail to that cuts off to your right keep moving straight ahead. You will soon step across a stream and even though it seems to be taking you in the opposite direction of the Fire Tower it will wrap around and be well worth it. Great rewarding Views from the Summit with no need to climb the tower.

This isn't really a loop. It's a down-and-back trail. There's a point where you can go down (which is where it starts to "loop") to the river, but you have to walk along the river the rest of the way, which really isn't easy. Would probably be fine in the summer in sandals when you could walk in the water. But if you're trying to keep your feet dry, I wouldn't recommend trying to do the "loop."

Cute hike in the snow. Short n sweet with great view. Did as part of triad on Thanksgiving

Great Thanksgiving hike with my daughter and husband. Really lovely views from the fire tower. Wonderful way to spend a morning. ~ 1 hour round trip + 30 enjoying the views. A little ice and some wet spots, but mostly packed snow.

Very well kept trail. Had a lot of fun out there on Thanksgiving day. Saw many others as well. I brought nothing but wished I had brought the spikes. Bring spikes, winter is here for sure.

Hiked Thanksgiving day. Saw one young lady and a hunter. Completely socked in as she called it and she was right. At 3:00pm there was not one view to be had. Left a few stones and crystals Ive been waiting to place up there for years and quickly made my exit. Will be back for views. Bring traction. Winter is here for sure.

Nice hike as part of the triad. Did with my hubby on Thanksgiving. Nice snow coverage. Decent view.

This is a great hike.

Just an FYI for others going in winter. the Falls trail is closed unless you have crampons, rope and an ice axe. You have to register in the main office.

The Friends of Poke-o-moonshine have done a really nice job of upgrading the trail. This one offers more views outward on the way up than the Observer trail. A really awesome late Fall hike.

Nice hike, a little snow and pretty icy at some points. Beautiful views at the top, the updated outhouse was definitely a bonus!

Very easy nice hike.

A little bit of snow and ice, but no issues getting to the top. Great views.

This is one of if not my all time favorite hike. If you go early in the morning you can have the trail all to yourself.

Pretty steep for the first half mile but after that it gets a bit easier. The views at the top are blue-hued and beautiful, also giving you a nice view of the interstate. ;-) Only giving this a two as I did enjoy the view but do not see myself doing this hike again.

This hike is beautiful but most spectacular in the fall and the waterfalls continue to amaze me. The steps and rocks can get a little slippery when wet and with leaves. Good hiking shoes are recommended. In comparison to other hikes I would rate it moderate. This will always be one of my most favorite hikes.
