we came completely unprepared with our 1 yr old and 3 yr old. our 1 yr old was carried by her daddy 98% of the time and our 3 yr old walked up it all by herself. she got carried on daddy's shoulders for half the way down.
we didn't bring any water except the 1 yr old bottle that me and her big sister took a drink of at the top of the mountain.
regardless of hardly being able to move today because I'm out of shape for the last 10 yrs. and because I forgot tennis shoes so I got a pair at dollar general that were 1/2 size to big.
it was still worth every step. so beautiful.
wish I would have got this app sooner to record our progress which was roughly 3.5 hours!!! lol :)

This is my favorite hike out of a handful I've done in SW VA so far! The first mile or so is easy trail, then it becomes more rocky. There are several sections where you have to scramble up and walk across parallel rocks/ledges. No real exposure or threat of falling, just a whole lot of fun! About .3 mile from the top, we decided to go in shifts because the dogs weren't very comfortable continuing (a good decision). There's a lot of extra scrambling and climbing to be had at the tooth/teeth themselves, but you'll be satisfied with the view even if you don't want to climb. The trail is well marked with white (when it's part of the AT) and blue blazes. There is an outhouse at the trailhead. No fees to park. Surprisingly uncrowded at 8:30am on a Saturday (home football game). My GPS had us at about 4.75 miles round trip.

Short but challenging hike. Lots of rocks to climb over near the summit. Not crowded at all during the week, but that's very different on the weekend.

The hike isn't too bad and the view is absolutely beautiful. The only downside is the sheer length of the trail that is made up of fist to head sized uneven rocks. they don't make much of a challenge on the way up, but are murder on the ankles on the way down. Hiking boots are heavily recommended.

This was a amazing hike , hard but fun the stairs were challenging as well as the incline changes but I def recommend hiking early in the am less crowded

The view was okay. The trail wasn’t well marked and was also overgrown. There was also a bunch of switch-backs. I’d say it was moderate because of how long it was to walk it. I have an injured knee and it wasn’t to hard on it. Just long. At least 3 plus hours.

So worth it. The views are amazing- a complete 360. We went in the middle of summer so it was super hot. At least 1/3 of the hike has stairs, but still bring your hiking shoes! this hike is no picnic even when you have a picnic at the top. When I go back to Virginia, I am definitely doing this hike again. - I wouldn’t suggest little kids on this hike, it’s a longer hike, ( I am 13) . If you are thinking about hiking either Sharp Top or Flat Top, we hiked both and I’ll say, Sharp Top is a much better bet. Flat Top isn’t marked so we had trouble finding our way and the views have trees in the way.

Great hike! But a lot of rock climbing too! #notyourgrandmashike

Challenging, fun, great workout!

An awesome hike, lots of switchbacks on the trail and a lot of steep inclines. The last half mile of the trail is pretty much a scamper up some fairly tough rocks. But when you get to the tooth you’ll know why you did it. I almost stepped on a rattlesnake on this trail as well so my adrenaline was in a bit of overdrive. Highly recommended! Will be doing this again soon!

I’ve been hiking this for almost 30 years. It is one of my favorite hikes and different every time. The view at the top makes it all worth while.

Hiked this one today. Actually, that was my second attempt to climb the rocks all the way to the top. First time around it was drizzling all day long, boulders were slippery, and I did not finish it. Today was sunny - different story. Good traction, because it was dry, and spectacular views all the way up (if you are climbing the boulders). Very very challenging climb, and I have done some tough trails. Rocks are getting bigger towards the top, and harder to climb. I had enough brains in the end to take side trail down instead of jumping boulders back...lol. Highly recommend if you want entire body workout. Do not recommend if you have knees problem.

I was concerned about getting lost after reading reviews. Not sure how people got lost. There are signs everywhere. This was an amazing trail. The waterfalls are beautiful! Very peaceful fun hike. I even saw purple, bright orange and bright yellow mushrooms! I’ve never seen a purple mushroom or yellow and orange mushrooms that were so vibrant. Highly recommend this hike. When you come to first cascade, continue to walk over bridge and up many stairs to reach the waterfall.

Super easy hike and easy for anyone just beginning

A great hike! Challenging but well worth it. The view from the Cliffs is amazing! A black bear crossed the trail ahead of mean the way back down. That got the heart racing. It was a great day hike and part 2 of 3 for the Triple Crown.

It was great but I really don’t believe it is good for dogs. Rocky just about the whole way. Definitely hard on the paws

Fun, short hike. Started early on a weekday morning and ended up having the entire top to myself. Clear day, great views, and light breeze.

Loved this trail. Diverse in meadow and forested areas, hard stair climb, AMAZING views. Got sweaty and enjoyed every second of it.

Loved this hike, The view at the top is amazing. But the bugs at the top were INSANE. Never seen such a swarm of them in my life.

We did the Apple Orchard trail, Cornelius creek and a little part of the AT. At one point we got turned around. All in all we hiked 8 Miles. My husband and I did it with our two small children aged 7 and 5. Climbing back up to the car was a little workout. Definitely beautiful scenery and the falls on Apple Orchard trail are very nice. Perfect for a picnic

I tore my calf muscle .1 miles from the top and coming down wasn’t fun... so be careful
