5-18, Beautiful, flat, paved trail. Took us a little over an hour. Amazing Mountain View’s and the lake it circles is teeming with wildlife. We went on a super foggy day- very cool! The restaurant and hotel on the grounds were also very nice

Nice hike. we stuck to the red trail this time but definitely going back!

Great short distance hike. Parking is to the left after crossing RR tracks. Falls are easily accessible and close to the parking area. This trail is clearly marked with red Nature Conservancy markers.

Slipped and fell down a muddy embankment. Haven’t really been back since. Too many homeless beggars with nothing better to do than drink and pass out on the greenway. Was enjoying it but now it’s just a nuisance. Too many people, overcrowded, bikers rarely let you know they’re there and just assume run over you and others act like they’re the only people on the planet. I prefer going doing slower times so I can attempt to enjoy it without disruption. Also homeless camp near Smythe Park and always from SE to Carilion part of trail. Beware they always beg and most always drunk or high! Wish the city would move the Rescue Mission to Bedford or Danville! Needs a higher police presence but cops don’t care and citing rule breakers. I have seen them arrest some of the drunks though. A girl I work with says there are perverts around also so beware and make sure you have protection at all times!

I had been starting to enjoy this one but there is no cell service once you get a little ways up and I ran into a total whack job that mooned me (in front of witnesses) and called me a communist because I follow the rules and have my dog on a leash. This idiot was in the parking lot and his two dogs were jumping on me trying to get to my little puppy! Cops did NOTHING! Never again. I have a shock gun now so I’ll be better prepared next time some nut job tries to make me look like the bad person for being a law abiding citizen!!! What a joke! NEVER AGAIN!!! Also his dogs had fleas so that cost me $50 for a pill to get rid of those! Gross! I don’t he or the dogs ever bathe! BEWARE!!! You could wind up in serious trouble here!!! Cops don’t care about citing the rule breakers!!! Could wind up missing or worse! I had started at the bottom near Dollar General! Lots of bugs also take DoTerra TerraShield if you dare!

Worst trail ever unless you’re lucky enough to go with a group that knows the trail. VERY POORLY MARKED AND EXTREMELY CONFUSING AND VERY DIFFICULT TRAIL!!! Don’t let it fool you or you may wind up missing or worse! Never again! Too scary for me and I attempted 3-4 times. Officially giving up on this one! NOT EASY AT ALL!!! Moderate or Difficult! I found it extremely difficult. I’m also mentally disabled though. Very stressful hike to figure out so I’m giving up. No views at all totally WORTH SKIPPING!!! Better trails are everywhere!

It’s a bit out of the way, but on a sunny day this trail is probably my favorite so far in the Blue Ridge. I prefer counterclockwise (the fields and views seem like a nice goal for the backwoods climb). The cows are always a treat.

Beautiful scenery and sunset plus the amazing smells of the lodge restaurant!

This was a pretty good hike for new and experienced outdoor goers. My kids are 10, 8, and 3 and they did fairly well. The three year old said it was amazing (as she rode on my back lol). This past weekend was in the mid to upper 70s and so it was super enjoyable without being too hot. Bugs were at a minimum. Only a few other hikers we passed so not too much traffic. My only complaint is we didn’t realize the hike ended at the overlook, meaning the kids couldn’t actually go to the base of the waterfall. We did that in Washington State where they could throw rocks and explore. So needless to say, they were a little disappointed. But overall, everyone had a good time. We did the blue and red trails and as a side note with the little ones, it took us a bit longer to finish (around 3 hours). Oh, and the trails were not super well groomed...one section had several fallen trees across that we had to climb over.

hiked this trail years ago, and the fall was dry, this past weekend was great you can get 4.5 to 5 mile out of this hike it you want. we took the yellow, to red in, and blue out. we have had ALOT of rain so lots of water where you want in and where you dont, lol. will be doing this again.

So lovely and peaceful for easy walking through the trees. One of my favorites.

This seems to be a less popular (or lesser known) hike in the area, but it is well worth it! It consists of two loops: a smaller, easier loop around the waterfalls (take either the first right or continue straight for this loop), and a larger, steeper loop in the surrounding forest (take the left after the concrete structure). The stream and waterfalls were gorgeous. No big views or vistas on the larger loop, but still beautiful and worthwhile. Someone else mentioned bees down below. We also came across what appeared to be an underground beehive directly on the trail, but they didn't threaten us. But just be aware!

The caves where cool.

its a nice view and worth it

The trail was fairly easy with no steep inclines rather gradual inclines. I went to the end of the red trail where the large waterfall was in the distance. It was very beautiful and calming to watch. To get to the falls you can go on the shorter red trail or the blue trail then on to the red trail. I was told the blue trail had a cemetery and some old buildings if you knew what you were looking for, but I did not go on that trail. To loop back I went on the yellow trail which takes you down to bottom creek gorge which was also beautiful and nice to take a dip on a hot day. The yellow trail is narrow at times and overgrown, watch out for poison ivy! On the drive in I saw 6 deer and a rabbit, and on the trail I saw a salamander and a friendly bumblebee that let me take some close ups so keep your eyes open!

Great hike just watch out for the cow patties 

Very scenic but I wasn’t too impressed. If your looking for a quick view of a waterfall this is perfect.

I had a wonderful time hiking the red trail at Bottom Creek. The waterfall is beautiful!! I can't wait to go back and possibly have a picnic and explore the other trails.

Pretty neat, probably best to be at the star at sunset for the best pictures!

pretty little trail with tons of cool waterfalls and caves!

This is the second time my group of friends have hiked this trail. It is based and relatively easy. There are nice views and great wooded scenery also. You can add on and hike around Rocky Knob.

Great hike! We did a mix of all trail colors. The river front trail, light blue, has larger rocks which weren't great to walk over but we made it over them-- and for a short amount of time, thank goodness. Will come back!

lovely variety of venues and good year round.

Nice secluded hike. Good crop of poison ivy. Probably best when the leaves are off the trees. Easy grades. Keep in mind that no dogs are allowed

Fairly easy hike. Brought my dog, who had no problems scaling the cattle fence ladders. The trail is not well marked once you enter the cow pasture. Great scenery & not too strenuous.

This is a nice, easy trail if you're wearing a toddler on your back! The woods are beautiful, the creek is relaxing, and I always see some sort of wildlife.

We hike Smart View every year and it’s always a delight. Enough challenge to keep it interesting. Beautiful forest, creeks, and scenery. We didn’t see anyone else on the trail - only picnickers nearby. Enjoy!

We had a great time hiking this trail today! Started late - after 5p - and went clockwise at ranger’s suggestion. It was perfect! We ended with shady wooded terrain - a little steep in places - but manageable. Lots of wild blackberries and we crossed a small creek near the end. Had to dodge a few cow patties but otherwise a great hike!
